Cricket Brassington Style What a splendid idea it is to have a friendly game of cricket on our new recreation facility against the stunning backdrop of our green valley. Cricket Brassington-style, brings together young and old, male and female, and with the help of a few volunteers and fantastic culinary delights, a grand day can be had by all. We began in 2015 and chose two teams from those willing to have a go. The teams were named Golconda v Nickalum – after local ancient lead mines. One memorable moment was when Arthur Allcock batted with his grandson Alfie, the lad quipping to his elder “Come on grandad, run quicker!” That game ended in a tie. 2016’s game took place on a sunny Sunday afternoon. Some players were seen to be bowling the usual hand-grenade lobs and pea rollers but the quality did not dampen people’s enjoyment. Golconda won that one and Mark Allcock received man of the match. Both matches were ably umpired by our very own Moran and Clough – No Dickie Bird tantrums from these two. So if you fancy a bit of entertainment this year either as player, watcher or cake maker, please feel free to join in the fun at the recreation ground on Sunday Sept 3rd. All kit provided but it is a soft ball game, so no black eyes. Tea is between innings. This is a community event and all funds raised go to our village. More information will be on posters around the village nearer the date. We look forward to seeing all there!
