he City of San Bernardino welcomed two new faces to government leadership when the new City Attorney Gary Saenz and Councilmember Jim Mulvihill were sworn into office earlier this week. Saenz replaced Jim Penman, the city’s longest serving elected official, who was ousted by voters T in a successful community-led recall effort. Saenz’s official swearing-in occurred last week in the City Clerk’s office. Saenz said his goal is to de- politicize the city attorney’s office and to serve as counsel for city staff and leaders. He fired all of Penman’s investigators and their supervisor his first day on the job. Mulvihill replaced Wendy McCammack who was also recalled for her council seat. However, she faces challenger Carey Davis in a run-off for mayor. As part of Give Big Riverside fundraising effort, a 24 hour fundraising web-a-thon, the Riverside Community Services Foundation hosted a reception and open house at the School of the Arts located at the Cesar Chavez Community Center at Bobby Bonds Park. During the reception those in attendance saw performances and displayed work of students enrolled in dance, music, creative writing and art classes at the school. Proceeds from this fundraising effort will be used to purchase instruments, pay for instructors, and provide scholarships to deserving youth in the community. The Riverside School of the Arts offers children in the community the opportunity to learn and gain a greater appreciation of the arts.
