AN ROMAN PERIOD SHIPWRECK WITH A CARGO OF AMPHORAE ROMaN PeRIOD ShIPWRecK IN The ČaVLIN ShaLLOWS There are several hundred Roman pe- riod shipwrecks in the Croatian part of the Adriatic Sea, the majority of which are devastated, but about a dozen of which have survived the ravages of time and unethical looters. They have been preserved intact, or with only minor damage, which offers underwater archaeologists an oppor- tunity for complete research. The very large number of Roman ship- wrecks is not unexpected, but speaks rather of the intensity of trade and importance of navigation on the eastern side of the Adriatic Sea, and of the dangers our sea hides. Roman period shipwrecks can be dated either by the type of cargo they carried or by some further analysis (the age of the wood, for example), and the datings range from the 4th century BC to the 6th century. The cargos of these ships were varied: from fine pot- tery, vessels and plates, stone construction elements and brick to the most frequent cargo – amphorae. The amphora was used as packag- ing from the period of the Greece colonisation to the late Roman and the Byzantine supremacy. There are remains of shipwrecks with cargos of amphorae that can be researched on the seabed, covered by Archaeological underwater excavation with the aid of a water dredge protective iron cages, and there are those that, as per documentation, need to be raised to the surface and presented on land. -

Uskotračna Pruga U Regiji Hercegovina/Dubrovnik Sagrađena Je Početkom 20
Uskotračna pruga u regiji Hercegovina/Dubrovnik sagrađena je početkom 20. stoljeća i spajala je Mostar s Dubrovnikom i Konavlima u Hrvatskoj. Prvi ‘’Ćiro’’ prošao je ovom prugom 15. srpnja 1901. Ideja za revitalizaciju ove linije kao biciklističke staze stvorena je zajednički, s obje strane granice, u cilju očuvanja ove pruge kao povijesne baštine te razvijanja nove turističke ponude. The first ‘’Ćiro’’ passed this railway on 15 July, 1901. The idea to revitalize this line as a bicycle rout was born jointly from both side of the border in order to preserve this railway line as a historical heritage and to develop new tourism offer. Hrvatski jadranski otoci, otočići i hridi Sika od Mondefusta, Palagruţa Mjerenja obale istoĉnog Jadrana imaju povijest; svi autori navode prvi cjelovitiji popis otoka kontraadmirala austougarske mornarice Sobieczkog (Pula, 1911.). Glavni suvremeni izvor dugo je bio odliĉni i dosad još uvijek najsustavniji pregled za cijelu jugoslavensku obalu iz godine 1955. [1955].1 Na osnovi istraţivanja skupine autora, koji su ponovo izmjerili opsege i površine hrvatskih otoka i otoĉića većih od 0,01 km2 [2004],2 u Ministarstvu mora, prometa i infrastrukture je zatim 2007. godine objavljena opseţna nova graĊa, koju sad moramo smatrati referentnom [2007].3 No, i taj pregled je manjkav, ponajprije stoga jer je namijenjen specifiĉnom administrativnom korištenju, a ne »statistici«. Drugi problem svih novijih popisa, barem onih objavljenih, jest taj da ne navode sve najmanje otoĉiće i hridi, iako ulaze u konaĉne brojke.4 Brojka 1244, koja je sada najĉešće u optjecaju, uopće nije dokumentirana.5 Osnovni izvor za naš popis je, dakle, [2007], i u graniĉnim primjerima [2004]. U napomenama ispod tablica navedena su odstupanja od tog izvora. U sljedećem koraku pregled je dopunjen podacima iz [1955], opet s obrazloţenjima ispod crte. Country Report on Human Rights Practices in Croatia Page 1 of 20 Croatia Country Reports on Human Rights Practices - 2007 Released by the Bureau of Democracy, Human Rights, and Labor March 11, 2008 The Republic of Croatia is a constitutional parliamentary democracy with a population of 4.4 million. Legislative authority is vested in the unicameral Sabor (parliament). The president serves as head of state and commander of the armed forces, cooperating in formulation and execution of foreign policy and directing operations of the intelligence service; he also nominates the prime minister, who leads the government. Parliamentary elections on November 25 were conducted in accordance with electoral legislation, although out-of-date registers of voters living abroad created a problem. Civilian authorities generally maintained effective control of the security forces. The government generally respected the human rights of its citizens; however, there were problems in some areas. The judicial system suffered from a case backlog, although the number of unsolved cases awaiting trial was somewhat reduced. Intimidation of some witnesses in domestic war crimes trials remained a problem. Courts continued to hold in absentia group trials for war crimes in both Vukovar and Rijeka. The government made little progress in restituting property nationalized by the Yugoslav communist regime to non-Roman Catholic religious groups. Societal violence and discrimination against ethnic minorities, particularly Serbs and Roma, remained a problem. Violence and discrimination against women continued. School officials continued to segregate Romani students into substandard schools. Trafficking in persons, violence and discrimination against homosexuals, and discrimination against persons with HIV/AIDS were also reported. -

Grad Petrinja i grad Koprivnica imaju mnogo srodnih točaka i interesa pa je i razumljivo da su kroz povijest postojale brojne veze. Međutim, Petrinja je do 1873. bila vojnički grad i središte Druge banske pukovnije ali i središte gospo- darskog i prosvjetnog života Banske krajine. Koprivnica se je pak riješila vojnog središta 1776., kada se počeo izgrađivati Bjelovar, ali je i dalje zadržala karakter poluvojničkog grada, što iščezava poslije 1873. kada se prišlo razvojačenju Varaž- dinske vojne krajine. U oba grada tražila su se rješenja kako što prije prebroditi vojničko nasljeđe i zakoračiti putem novog građanskog društva. No bilo je izvjesnih razloga. U Petri- nji i nije bilo plemstva iz redova veleposjednika, a u Koprivnici su grofovi Inkey iz Rasinje držali određene privredne objekte u gradu, osobito hotel, ali se je to ubrzo promijenilo pod navalom novih građanskih snaga, pogotovo Židova i Srba iz okoline koji su se dobro osjećali u Koprivnici. G. 1848. označava kraj feuda- lizma i početak ustavnog razdoblja. Međutim ovaj prijelaz bio je dugotrajan, a u Hrvatskoj i kompliciran zbog Hrvatsko-slavonske vojne krajine koja je produžila vojnu upravu sve do sedamdesetih godina 19. stoljeća pod izlikom da treba pri- premiti ovaj prijelaz osposobljavanjem krajišnika za novo vrijeme. Međutim to je osposobljavanje bilo zapravo onesposobljavanje Hrvatske da sama rješava svoje probleme, jer je čitav školski sustav bio i dalje usmjeren prema humanističkom obrazovanju, a praktične poslove oko uređenja rijeka, eksploatacije šuma i pro- meta radili su stranci školovani u razvijenom dijelu Monarhije, uglavnom Pragu, Gracu ili u Mađarskoj.
