It is a stunning looking car, but I doubt the practicality of those doors. Still, with a show car that is not intended for production, practicality comes a very poor second to stunning appearance which the Nepta undoubtedly achieves! Now, one more question: Who was Louise Berthe Magien? For the answer, see Newsletter # 13! June 2 (Reuters) - French carmaker Renault (RENA.PA) and its Japanese Partner Nissan (7201.T) should together become the world's third-biggest car manufacturer this year, Renault Chief Executive Carlos Ghosn told the Financial Times. CYCLICAL CONSUMER GOODS Ghosn was quoted as saying that he expected the global industry to make and sell 70 million light vehicles in 2010, a slight tweak to the 69-70 million forecast he gave at the Detroit Economic Club last week. "Very likely this year, we should be in the top three," Ghosn said in the FT's Wednesday edition, predicting sales of nearly 7 million cars from Renault, Nissan and their Russian partner Avtovaz (AVAZ.MM). Renault would rank behind Germany's Volkswagen (VOWG_p.DE) and its Japanese partner Suzuki (7269.T), and Japanese carmaker Toyota (7203.T).

COMMUNIQUÉ DE PRESSE 07022017 ALPINE PASSION THROUGH THE YEARS AT RETROMOBILE Retromobile set to play host to six classic Alpine models The Alpine Vision show car will also be on display as a symbolic bridge between the brand’s past and future BoulogneBillancourt, February 7, 2017 – Groupe Renault is pleased to confirm Alpine’s participation in the 42nd edition of Retromobile (February 812, with Press Evening on February 7) at the Porte de Versailles exhibition centre in Paris. Just days away from the global unveil of the brand’s eagerlyanticipated new road car that will go on sale this year, Alpine aficionados and automotive aesthetes alike will have the opportunity to either discover or rediscover some of the most iconic models ever to have sported the famous arrowed ‘A’ badge. ALPINE A106 The adventure begins! This striking ‘Coach’ – launched back in 1955 – was the very first Alpine, exhibiting the unmistakable hallmarks that would go on to characterise all of the Dieppebased manufacturer’s future models. The son of a Dieppe Renault dealer – whom he would subsequently succeed, in so doing becoming the youngest car dealer in France – Jean Rédélé threw himself into the competitive world of motorsport in 1950. His skill behind the wheel saw him tally excellent results and class triumphs in events as prestigious as the Rallye MonteCarlo, the Mille Miglia, the Tour de France Automobile and the daunting LiègeRomeLiège Rally. These successes were achieved with a Renault 4CV, but Jean Rédélé had somewhat loftier ambitions: his dream was to produce a small French sports car using as many mass produced parts as possible.

  • VP– Vernet Pairard
Just-Emile Vernet was an old hand at Le Mans when he first raced his own car there in 1953. It had all started in 1931 with a class win in one of the two 1100cc Caban Spéciales entered by Yves Giraud-Cabantous, then he was back again in a Salmson 1100 in 1932-33, a 3.5 litre Lorraine in 1934-35, a first in class again in 1937 driving a Simca Rat 6CV, a Simca 1100 in 1938, Riley 1500 in ’39, an 1100cc Simca 8 again in 1949, and a Renault 4CV in 1950 and ’51. The fact that he was a mechanic and able to be involved in the preparation of his cars was no doubt somewhat helpful! For 1952 the plan was to enter in a car of his own co-creation, but the car was not completed in VP – Vernet Pairard suspension to suit a sportscar with a lower centre of gravity and more rigid frame. Vernet himself took responsibility for tuning the 4CV engine, as he had with his earlier 4CV saloon, using a twin-choke carburettor, revised camshaft, new valves and stronger valve springs plus revised ignition settings to help the little engine develop considerably more power. Another influential player in the game was the above mentioned François Landon who was head of Board of Renault’s competition department at the time. Mauger completed the plans for the sportscar chassis on November 12 1951, while final plans for the body were approved on the 24th of February time for the big race.

  • ALPINE HISTORY Alpine Was a French
ALPINE HISTORY Alpine was a French manufacturer of racing and sports cars which used rear mounted Renault engines. Jean Redele, the founder of Alpine, was originally a Dieppe garage proprietor who began to achieve considerable competition success in one of the few French cars produced just after World War 2. The proper pronunciation is closer to "al-peen". Using Renault 4CVs, he gained class wins in a number of major events, including the Mille Miglia and Coupe des Alpes. As his experience with the little 4CV built up, he incorporated many modifications, including for example, special 5 speed gear boxes replacing the original 3 speed unit. To provide a lighter car he built a number of special versions with lightweight aluminium bodies: he drove in these at Le Mans and Sebring with some success in the early 50s. Encouraged by the development of these cars and consequent customer demand, he founded the Societe Anonyme des Automobiles Alpine in 1954. The firm was named Alpine after his Coupe des Alpes successes but in those days, La Manche was very wide! Alpine did not realise that over in England the previous year, Sunbeam had introduced a sports coupe derived from the Sunbeam Talbot and called the Sunbeam Alpine. This naming problem was to cause problems for Alpine throughout its history! In 1955, he worked with the Chappe brothers to be amongst the pioneers of auto glass fibre construction and produced a small coupe, based on 4CV mechanicals and called the A106.
