Be sure to keep a calendar handy with these dates so you don’t miss the race days starting in March and running thru November. A skippers’ meeting may be held to determine the details for that day’s racing. No races will be scheduled on Sunday. 2. Scheduled Race Starting Time and Format The scheduled Saturday races will begin at 11:00 A.M. as follows: A. The Spring series will be conducted without Race Committee due to the ongoing pandemic unless otherwise noted by an announcement to members. • The Start line will be between 2 permanently anchored orange buoys between the Pavilion & New Hope Church. • The start line will also serve as a gate in the event of a 2 lap race. • The start sequence will be the normal 5 minute start. 1 horn to indicate the Start sequence. There will be no horn at the Start. • One of the day's racers will be in charge of the start sequence each week. A horn will be provided and stored in the committee shed. • The racers should arrive no later than 10 a.m. to help set up the course. • There will be one course mark set by the racers prior to the start of the first race. • The number of laps will be determined by the racers. • The racers will keep up with their own finishing positions and/or time and report them to the race scorer at [email protected]. • Any racer not reporting his finishing position and/or time to the score keeper before the following Wednesday will not be scored. B. For the Fall Series, the Race Committee Chairman and Assistants will use the club boats to set the marks for the day’s racing. Skippers will launch their boats and meet on the water with the Race Committee Chairman (RCC) to determine the course for the day. Three races will be run back-to-back, weather permitting. Additional races MAY be held at the discretion of the race chair if the racers request more and time permits.

  • Best Boats Nominees 2017 SAIL Editors | September 8, 2016
Best Boats Nominees 2017 SAIL Editors | September 8, 2016 After racing ahead for some time at breakneck speed, the boatbuilding industry seems to have entered a period of refinement—which is probably a good thing. In recent years the sailing public has been witness to everything from lounging areas springing up in places never before heard of to twin helms on 30-footers and full-foiling performance aboard everything from beach cats to “cruising” multihulls. However, keeping up that kind of pace can just as easily lead to gimmicks as it can to real innovation. At the same time, “refinement” is hardly a dirty word. Whether it’s turbocharging a classic or extending a tried and true concept to a different LOA, the boatbuilding industry knows that neither the sea nor SAIL’s Best Boats judges suffer fools gladly. Here is a look at this year’s crop of nominees, keep an eye out for the winners in our upcoming December issue. Monohulls Cruising Beneteau Oceanis 41.1 An evolution of the successful Oceanis 41, the Beneteau Oceanis 41.1 picks up where its predecessor left off to provide a sporty cruising boat toward the middle of the company’s extensive fleet. Upgrades include 1,200lb less displacement in the interest of speed and more room in the master stateroom forward: the latter has been made possible by the decision to place the mast farther aft. Twin wheels allow for clear sightlines forward as well as easy access to the boat’s dropdown swim step. Sailplan options include everything from overlapping genoas to a 95 percent self-tacking blade jib.
