The trophy is awarded to the winner of a one-day regatta, open to all club members, and sailed on an open basis. The trophy will be suitably engraved with the winner’s name and shall remain in the future clubhouse. A keeper trophy may also be awarded. McFadden Trophy This award is made annually to the winner of the Memorial Day Club Regatta in memory of Joe and Marianne McFadden, former members of the Club, who loved racing and the DSC. The trophy is awarded to the winner of a one-day regatta, open to all club members, and sailed on an open basis. The award is presented by the Rear Commodore and a permanent trophy has been placed at the club for the winners’ names to be inscribed. The club will present a keeper trophy to the winner at the club’s discretion. Robert Perry Trophy This award is made annually to the outstanding Junior who shall not have reached their 17th birthday. Consideration for the award will be based on outstanding achievement in overall activities. The award will be presented at the Labor Day Regatta, if one or more Juniors have demonstrated satisfactory accomplishments during the preceding year. The trophy will remain in the future clubhouse and will be suitably engraved with the winner’s name. C. Parker Smilie Trophy This award is made annually to the winner of the largest one-design mono-hull class sailing in the Punch Bowl Regatta. The trophy will be suitably engraved with the winners’ name and shall remain in the future clubhouse. Keeper trophies may also be awarded at the discretion of the Race Committee. Rene Leveque Participation Award This award is presented to the “skipper” who sailed the most races over the racing season and will be presented at the Commodore’s Banquet. Club Champion Award A Club Champion Award is presented each year as described in this roster on page 12. 9 2021 DSC Sailing Program 1. Race Schedule Club racing will be scheduled in harmony with all our other activities. Races will be scheduled on Saturdays, but not in any weekend order. Be sure to keep a calendar handy with these dates so you don’t miss the race days starting in March and running thru November. A skippers’ meeting may be held to determine the details for that day’s racing. No races will be scheduled on Sunday. 2. Scheduled Race Starting Time and Format The scheduled Saturday races will begin at 11:00 A.M. as follows: A. The Spring series will be conducted without Race Committee due to the ongoing pandemic unless otherwise noted by an announcement to members. • The Start line will be between 2 permanently anchored orange buoys between the Pavilion & New Hope Church. • The start line will also serve as a gate in the event of a 2 lap race. • The start sequence will be the normal 5 minute start. 1 horn to indicate the Start sequence. There will be no horn at the Start. • One of the day's racers will be in charge of the start sequence each week. A horn will be provided and stored in the committee shed. • The racers should arrive no later than 10 a.m. to help set up the course. • There will be one course mark set by the racers prior to the start of the first race. • The number of laps will be determined by the racers. • The racers will keep up with their own finishing positions and/or time and report them to the race scorer at [email protected]. • Any racer not reporting his finishing position and/or time to the score keeper before the following Wednesday will not be scored. B. For the Fall Series, the Race Committee Chairman and Assistants will use the club boats to set the marks for the day’s racing. Skippers will launch their boats and meet on the water with the Race Committee Chairman (RCC) to determine the course for the day. Three races will be run back-to-back, weather permitting. Additional races MAY be held at the discretion of the race chair if the racers request more and time permits.
