Each of the tuo regattas was very successful. I will leave it to the two regatta chairs, Rob Wilson and Kathy Comer to describe the events. Individual fleets have also conducted major events at the club. The Spring Series Bu{Iet, beefstroganoffand chicken Florentine was created and served by Alexis Tapp. Dayna Mosier did a wonderful job selecting trophies for the series. Those ofyou rvho have been racing the series races have enjoyed the free food, drinks and beer after each of the races. Pat Manning has been in charge of most of the end of race snacks.

  • Portsmouth Number List 2016
Portsmouth Number List 2016 The RYA Portsmouth Yardstick Scheme is provided to enable clubs to allow boats of different classes to race against each other fairly. The RYA actively encourages clubs to adjust handicaps where classes are either under or over performing compared to the number being used. The Portsmouth Yardstick list combines the Portsmouth numbers with class configuration and the total number of races returned to the RYA in the annual return. This additional data has been provided to help clubs achieve the stated aims of the Portsmouth Yardstick system and make adjustments to Portsmouth Numbers where necessary. Clubs using the PN list should be aware that the list is based on the typical performance of each boat across a variety of clubs and locations. Experimental numbers are based on fewer returns and are to be used as a guide for clubs to allocate as a starting number before reviewing and adjusting where necessary. The list of experimental Portsmouth Numbers will be periodically reviewed by the RYA and is based on data received from the PY Online website (www.pys.org.uk). Users of the PY scheme are reminded that all Portsmouth Numbers published by the RYA should be regarded as a guide only. The RYA list is not definitive and clubs should adjust where necessary. • How to Calculate Results Using Portsmouth Numbers Beaufort
How to Calculate Results using Portsmouth Numbers Use Portsmouth Handicap Numbers to calculate finish positions as corrected time for boats that are not alike and compete together on a common course for an unspecified distance. The Portsmouth Handicap Number of a boat assumes that each boat is sailed to its true potential by a perfect crew using flawless strategy, and that all boats and sails conform to class specifications and rules. Finish positions are calculated by corrected time using CT=(ETX100)/HC as the formula. CT is corrected time; ET is elapsed time; and HC is either the recommended Wind Handicap Number or the basic D-PN. The Race Committee records: • wind speed at the beginning, middle, and end of the race • exact start time of the race • exact finish time for every boat. The Race Committee: • averages the 3 recorded wind velocities and selects a corresponding Beaufort Number range to use as the wind handicap number in the formula, or instead uses the basic Portsmouth Number D-PN. • determines elapsed time for every boat • converts elapsed time into seconds for use in the formula. • uses the formula: CT=(ETX100)/HC to calculate corrected times • arranges finish order with the lowest corrected time in first place. Beaufort Scale of Wind Velocity Beaufort Numbers characterize weather conditions. Use a meter to determine wind velocities and note that subjective annotations over force 5 do not apply on Great South Bay. Yet Tuesday, library represen- tatives asked for and received $109,786 from the Sanibel City Council. "The budget for the new building is $1.5 million. No new tax will be required, as the li- brary has been accumulating these funds in anticipation of this project," said library di- rector Patricia Allen and library board presi- dent Field Wasson when they first announced the project in August. Yachting Victoria Inc ABN 26 176 852 642 2 / 77 Beach Road SANDRINGHAM VIC 3191 Tel 03 9597 0066 Fax 03 9598 7384 YACHTING VICTORIA YARDSTICKS – CATAMARANS Date: 1 September 2014 Version: 1.0 INTRODUCTION Yachting Victoria Catamaran yardsticks are prepared to provide the fairest possible calculation of results for mixed fleet “Off the Beach” catamaran racing. The yardsticks have been comprehensively reviewed for the 2014/15 season. Yardsticks published over the past 2 seasons for the more popular classes, with reliable high quality race results data, were predominantly derived using a “performance” based system, with data sourced and statistically analyzed from published results of major mixed fleet regattas, mixed “Class Championships” and to a lesser extent mixed fleet club racing. This methodology or “Performance” based analysis for these “popular” classes has been maintained for the current review. However, an additional check or validation against the ISAF Small Catamaran Handicap Rating System (SCHRS – refer following Heading) was undertaken on all classes. Yardsticks for less popular classes, where reliable race data was unavailable or limited, have been determined largely from SCHRS ratings. Regrettably though, with the exception of several well supported and popular classes, reliable and good quality race results data continues to be difficult to source (with some notable exceptions) and/or assessing the quality of various competing crews has been challenging. Furthermore, under a strictly performance based system only, new and/or modified classes cannot realistically be allocated a yardstick (even tentatively) in a timely manner, until club/regatta race results from at least several boats with well performed crews are assessed.
