Official Ginetta Cars Bulletin Ginetta Junior Championship Winter Bulletin 01 Issued – 18 October 2018 Ginetta Drivers/Teams Official Ginetta Cars Bulletin Ginetta Junior Championship Winter Bulletin 01 Issued – 18 October 2018 Ginetta Drivers/Teams, This is the first of a series of bulletins that will be issued over the coming winter months, the aim of which is to provide information to all our customers and partners with regards to car updates, regulation changes and other important Championship information. Championship Dates The 2019 Ginetta Junior Championship will be contested over 26 rounds, on the following dates: Rounds Venue Dates 1,2 Brands Hatch 6th / 7th April 3,4,5 Donington Park 27th / 28th April 6,7 Thruxton 18th/19th May 8,9,10 Croft 15th / 16th June 11,12 Oulton Park 29th / 30th June 13,14,15 Snetterton 3rd / 4th August 16,17 Thruxton 17th / 18th August 18,19,20 Knockhill 14th / 15th September 21,22,23 Silverstone 28th /29th September 24,25,26 Brands Hatch 12th / 13th October All rounds will support TOCA British Touring Car Championship. Race weekend format Friday 2 x 30 Minute Free Practice Saturday & Sunday 15 Minute Free Practice 15 Minute Qualifying 2 x 20 Minute Races (with the exception of Croft and Oulton Park which will be 15 minute races) Events with three races scheduled will feature no free practice on Saturday morning, and the additional race will be of 15-minute duration. **The first Thruxton event will not feature any test time on the Friday of the race weekend. There will be exclusive Ginetta Junior testing available on the TOCA support test day, due to take place on Wednesday 17th April. The Thruxton event taking place in August will have a normal Friday test as part of the race weekend. ISSUED BY: STEPH BUSH – FOR AND ON BEHALF OF GINETTA CARS STEPH BUSH | T: 0113 385 3801 | M: 07808 187 553 | E: [email protected] Official Ginetta Cars Bulletin Ginetta Junior Championship Winter Bulletin 01 Issued – 18 October 2018 Entry Fee Season Entry RRP - £15,550 +VAT Offer up to the close of play of the Autosport Show 2019 - £12,950 + VAT Early Entry will include: • Friday testing at all 10 rounds • 26 Race Championship • Free Ginetta championship Launch Day entry • Free championship race suit (RRP £550 + VAT) • Five pit lane passes & five paddock passes • Two Saturday & Two Sunday lunchtime meal passes (further tickets available on request for either day) • Free circuit generator hire for teams Entry’s will be taken on a first come first served basis, and due to the high level of current intertest it is recommended that these are placed early to avoid disappointment. Championship Launch Day The Championship launch day will take place at Brands Hatch on Thursday 21st March, and will be exclusively for Ginetta Junior and Ginetta GT4 SuperCup drivers. As before, this will also be an opportunity to collect season passes, decal packs, race suits, and offer an opportunity to test with the rest of the field before the start of the season. Regulation Changes 2019 - Mirrors - All Ginetta Junior race cars will have to run an updated mirror to help improve driver visibility, mirrors will be available to purchase shortly via [email protected]. The mirror update will be optional for the Winter Series and compulsory for the main Championship in 2019. - Engine – Any engine with the current seal specification can be used in the Championship going forwards. These can either be new, or as used in the 2018 season. Competitors will be required to nominate an engine at the start of the season, and changes will be at the discretion of Ginetta or the Scrutineer. The last weekend saw Race Retro at Coventry, the Pomeroy Trophy meeting at Silverstone Simon Wright and a special tour of the Editor/Photographer Ginetta factory all taking place on the same day! You wait for ages for an event, then 3 turn up all at once. The big event, lasting 3 days, was Race Retro, which with its mix of exhibition and action is covered extensively in this issue. We also have a video clip of the live rally stage which can be viewed on YouTube by clicking here We also got in on the tour of the Ginetta factory to see how those super cars are built, and thanks to photographer Peter Collins we also have a photo spread of the action for the VSCC Pomeroy Trophy meeting at Silverstone.     CLUB LOTUS ELAN SECTION The 1970 Lotus advert with Dr Hammond Building an Elan from a Kit – In a Weekend? Over the years the Elan has gained a reputation, unfairly we would argue, of being nothing more than a kit car. This somewhat shallow view ignores the very fine driving qualities of a car we all admire and treasure! However, Colin Chapman realised that his rather expensive two seater could be made more attractive to his potential customers if they did not have to pay UK Purchase Tax on their Elan. This could be achieved, under the tax regime of the day, by supplying a car in ‘Component Form’. This is what Lotus did to increase the appeal of the much admired Elan to a wider motoring public. A buyer could save up to 30% on the price of a fully factory assembled Elan in this way. We would point out, however, that in reality, the Elan was never a kit car or component car, but a car delivered to the customer for final assembly, predominantly using pre-built sub-assemblies. A kit car, also known as a "component car", is one that is available as a set of parts that a manufacturer sells and the buyer then either assembles into a car themselves, or retains a third party to do part or all of the work on their behalf. It was in 1896 that an Englishman, Thomas Hyler White first developed a design for a car that could be assembled at home. His designs were published in a magazine called ‘The English Mechanic’ and he later wrote a book, ‘Petrol Motors and Motor Cars: A Handbook for Engineers, Designers, and Draftsmen’ about his ideas.

The event has become a firmly established speed event in the motor sport calendar (the event was previously run solely by York Motor Club at Elvington and latterly Teesside Autodrome, from 2005 to 2014), with great emphasis placed on a friendly, relaxed, yet competitive event, offering superb value for money and an enjoyable day's motorsport, which the Keith Pattison Memorial Sprint has gained an excellent reputation for over the last 15 years or so it has been run. The event is named in memory of Keith Pattison, one of York Motor Club's longstanding members who sadly passed away in 2006, following a short illness. Keith was a regular competitor in sprints and many other types of motorsport.
