Almost the entire World Rally Hall of Fame, from birth to today, gathers for the tribute to the great Scottish driver, ten years after his death Republic of San Marino. All together, at Rallylegend next October 21st and 22nd: Walter Rohrl, Ari Vatanen, Hannu Mikkola, Stig Blomqvist, Timo Salonen, Juha Kankkunen, Miki Biasion, Didier Auriol, Tommi Makinen, Marcus Gronholm, Petter Solberg, Sebastien Loeb and Sebastien Ogier, with Sandro Munari and Markku Alen, winners of the FIA Driver Cups 1977 and 1978, that later became the World Rally Drivers since 1979. Fifteen World Rally Champions, for a total of thirty-four world drivers titles - almost all the history of the World Championship series - will gather in the Republic of San Marino - for two days World Rally Capital - for the "Colin Mc Rae Tribute", Rallylegend's tribute to the memory of the great Scottish champion, ten years after his premature and tragic disappearance. For Colin Mc Rae, at Rallylegend there will also be Derek Ringer, the co-driver with whom the late Scottish driver won the World Championship title in 1995, and Nicky Grist, another important co-driver for him; while two other World Champion co-drivers, Hans Thorszelius and Robert Reid, will be present at San Marino to bring their memory of two champions who are no longer among us, such as Bjorn Waldegaard and Richard Burns. Sébastien Ogier/Julien Ingrassia (F/F) were crowned World Rally Champions for the fourth time in a row after taking victory at the Rally Spain. They guided their Volkswagen Polo R WRC to a fifth win of the season in Catalonia, finishing ahead of Dani Sordo/Marc Martí (E/E, Hyundai) und Thierry Neuville/Nicolas Gilsoul (B/B, Hyundai). Their ninth podium in eleven races triggered wild celebrations. The Frenchmen can no longer be caught at the top of the overall standings in the 2016 FIA World Rally Championship (WRC). Team-mates Andreas Mikkelsen/Anders Jæger (N/N) went into the Rally Spain as their closest rivals in the title race, but the Norwegians’ hopes of winning the championship were dashed when they were forced to retire from the rally. Eighth place in the Manufacturers’ classifications for Jari-Matti Latvala/Miikka Anttila (FIN/FIN) means Volkswagen is well- placed to claim its fourth Manufacturers’ title in a row next time out at the Rally Great Britain. Kankkunen, Mäkinen and Ogier – up there with the biggest names in rallying 952 days in a row at the top of the table: Sébastien Ogier is only the third World Rally Champion to be crowned champion four years in a row in the pinnacle of rallying, and the fourth four-time world champion in the history of the FIA World Rally Championship (WRC).

    Rally Turkey – Day Three Report Hyundai Motorsport has registered a double podium in Rally Turkey, the fifth round of the 2020 FIA World Rally Championship (WRC) Thierry Neuville finished in second place and took the maximum five Power Stage points, ahead of Sébastien Loeb, who claimed third overall - his first podium since Chile 2019. Ott Tänak brought his difficult Rally Turkey to a more positive conclusion with four Power Stage points, as the team maintains second in the manufacturers’ championship. ASPARAN, TURKEY, Sep. 20, 2020 — Hyundai Motorsport has concluded Rally Turkey with a double podium finish on a dramatic final day in which both Thierry Neuville and Sébastien Loeb picked up punctures on the opening stage. With the longest test of the entire event - the 38.15km Çetibeli - run twice on Sunday morning, in addition to the shorter 6.28km Marmaris test, it was never going to be a straight-forward finish to the rally. However, issues for the crews during the opening run were not a welcome addition to the script. Overnight leaders Neuville and co-driver Nicolas Gilsoul saw their 33-second advantage eradicated as they were forced to stop to change a tyre mid-stage. Loeb and Daniel Elena, too, were struck by tyre misfortune as they nursed their Hyundai i20 Coupe WRC through the final kilometres with a puncture, losing over a minute of time. They weren’t the only crews to experience trouble in the first run through Çetibeli, which transformed the overall classification. On the first pass through Marmaris, Neuville took an emphatic stage win to reclaim second overall, behind new rally leader Elfyn Evans, with Loeb in fourth overall - less than five seconds from the podium.

    MEDIA INFORMATION 2019 FIA World Rally Championship Round 6: COPEC Rally Chile Successful Rally Chile debuts for the MICHELIN LTX Force M6 and MICHELIN LTX Force H4 The first Rally Chile to count towards the FIA World Rally Championship has been described as a blend of Australia, Finland and Wales by the players who were in South America for the landmark event. The country’s first WRC qualifier featured a broad spread of humidity levels and temperatures which had a big influence on car set-ups and, of course, tyre strategies. The stages – the majority of which were located near the Pacific coast – threw up a wide variety of surface types, ranging from those with a sandy top-coating reminiscent of Rally Finland, to harder, stone- or gravel-littered roads. There was also a certain amount of mud due to the week’s showery weather. The morning starts tended to be chilly and the thermometer failed to climb much higher than 20°C during the afternoons. Fog was an issue at times, too. To cover this assortment of conditions, Michelin provided its WRC partners with a choice between the medium-compound MICHELIN LTX Force M6 and the harder MICHELIN LTX Force H4, while those WRC2 runners competing on the French firm’s products could choose between the soft-compound MICHELIN Latitude Cross S80 and the hard MICHELIN Latitude Cross H90. Given the chilly weather and the variety of stage surfaces, the softer of the two options turned out to be the predominant fitment, although some drivers attempted different strategies at times, including Sébastien Ogier (Citroën C3 WRC) who left service for Saturday afternoon’s loop of three tests carrying three MICHELIN LTX Force H4s and two LTX Force M6s, while his rivals all opted for five LTX Force H4s.

Updated: March 2020 THE TOYOTA YARIS GRMN The Yaris GRMN establishes Toyota as a key player in the European performance hatchback market, a car that is precision-engineered to provide the best possible driving experience. Inspired by Toyota’s return to top-flight motorsport in the FIA World Rally Championship, it shares design cues with the Yaris WRC – the car that took Toyota Gazoo Racing to the winner’s podium in the team’s first year of competition. A development team based close to the famous Nürburgring focused on giving the car superb dynamic performance, whether driven on the track, or on public roads. Its performance quality is broadcast by its lightweight 17-inch BBS alloy wheels, larger brakes with visible white callipers, central oval tailpipe and a bespoke exterior finish that displays Toyota Gazoo Racing’s white, black and red competition colours. Under the bonnet is a 1.8- litre Dual VVT-i engine that produces 209bhp/156kW and benefits from a supercharger, a feature unique among B-segment performance hatchbacks. The successful application of the supercharged engine helps the Yaris GRMN meet its development goal of high-level performance and maximum responsiveness to the driver’s inputs. As usual, fans turned out in huge numbers and flocked to the event’s famous spectator spots like ‘Colin’s Crest’ where the cars take off and perform spectacular leaps of up to and more than forty metres. To help them rise to the challenge posed by this year’s Rally Sweden, Michelin provided its WRC partners with the MICHELIN X-Ice North 3 equipped with 384 studs to bite into the frozen ground. Meanwhile, its partners competing in the WRC2 Pro (for factory teams) and WRC2 (privateers) classes ran the MICHELIN X-Ice NA01, a brand new studded tyre designed specifically for championship’s R5 cars. “In the end, the conditions were better than we had been expecting,” observed Arnaud Rémy, the manager of Michelin’s rally programmes. “By that I mean they were colder and more typical than the forecasts had led us to believe. There were fewer portions of exposed dirt than some had been predicting, too. For sure, the coating of ice was quite thin at times but our studs stood up better than some drivers had anticipated through the more challenging potions. Indeed, thanks to the exclusive studding technique we employ [see below], our tyres hardly lost any studs at all and the lack of grip that was reported at times was due more to the presence of water and slush.

Although last month’s Rally Finland didn’t produce the ultimate result for our team, Hayden finished just outside the podium places after a strong drive. Thierry and Nicolas continue to lead the Drivers’ championship with an advantage of 21 points, while the Hyundai Shell Mobis World Rally Team heads the Manufacturers’ championship by 26 points so there’s plenty of reason to be positive. I must also congratulate our HMDP crew of Jari and Antti for recording their first WRC2 podium of the year with second in that class. Rallye Deutschland is the first tarmac event on the calendar since Tour de Corse in April. Since then we’ve worked on improving the suspension, especially the dampers, and centre differential mapping with two aims in mind: to achieve more grip for the Hyundai i20 Coupe WRC and find a better balance. This follows feedback from our drivers during Corsica where they reported being hampered by understeer. Our three drivers for Germany – Thierry, Dani and Andreas – have all sampled the changes during development testing and they also got the opportunity to finalise their set-ups during the recent pre-event test, which took place over five days so we could experience the vineyard roads and those within the Baumholder military range, which are very specific to this rally.

It is 15 years since a drivers’ title fight of similar magnitude and a compelling season-long battle involving three drivers was finally resolved on the last morning of the season in Australia. It was a similar story in the manufacturers’ championship. All four teams won rallies and three made the long journey Down Under still with an opportunity to claim the crown. Following a similarly enthralling and unpredictable 2017 cam- paign, when new-era World Rally Cars headlined a raft of major changes to the championship, it is clear our sport is in the midst of an unforgettable period in its history. Away from the close competition, the WRC has grown in stature. The year opened with a major launch at Birmingham’s Autosport International show and finished with a glamorous end of season gala in Sydney and with the cars showcased once more in front of Milan’s iconic cathedral in the Piazza del Duomo. Our pioneering WRC+ All Live channel revolutionised the way in which fans could enjoy the sport as it happened. Every special stage from each round was streamed live, featuring stunning onboard and helicopter footage. It was supplemented by expert analysis and reactions from across the service park – adding up to more than 325 hours of live coverage. Our traditional TV coverage thrived too. The WRC’s global audi- ence and the number of broadcast hours continue their positive trend of the last years.
