So linking in again to my opening paragraphs in a round about way is the recent Havant swapmeet, which having attended and spoken to a few who were there, dealers, traders and buyers alike appears to have been a very successful event, and worthy of opening the swapmeet season both this year and hopefully beyond? Thanks and indeed congratulations I would say, to the organisers both Robert Learmouth and Steve Cannon for organising the event and I am sure who both put in considerable time and effort in doing so, particularly as it wasn’t just a swapmeet but also a informal gathering and meeting of a number of people who worked for Minimodels/ Scalex when they were based out of the Havant Factory, started by ‘Fred’ Francis all those years ago.

Andreas Mikkelsen set to join Hyundai Motorsport on a full-time basis for the 2018 and 2019 FIA World Rally Championship seasons Mikkelsen will join Thierry Neuville, Dani Sordo and Hayden Paddon under contract with the team for next season, the team’s fifth year in WRC The Norwegian will compete in his first event for Hyundai Motorsport at next weekend’s Rally de España, alongside compatriot co-driver Anders Jæger. Alzenau, Germany September 28, 2017 – Hyundai Motorsport has today confirmed that Andreas Mikkelsen has signed a two-year deal to join the team for the 2018 and 2019 FIA World Rally Championship (WRC) seasons. Mikkelsen will compete in all rounds of the 2018 championship in a Hyundai i20 Coupe WRC, co- driven by fellow Norwegian Anders Jæger. Hyundai Motorsport’s existing crews of Thierry Neuville/Nicolas Gilsoul, Dani Sordo/Marc Martí and Hayden Paddon/Seb Marshall all remain under contract for the 2018 season. • 1968 − 1984 Colin: the Busy Baby by Margaret Mcrae
1968 − 1984 Colin: the busy baby by Margaret McRae Colin Steele McRae was born on August 5, 1968. It was a Monday. He was born in the William Smellie Maternity Hospital in Lanark. And he was a much-wanted child – a first grandchild for my parents, however Jim’s mum and dad already had two. It’s from Jim’s mum that Colin took the name Steele – it was her maiden name. We were living in Blackwood, about five miles from Lanark, in those days. And it was to the house in Vere Road, Blackwood that we would have taken Colin home – if we hadn’t still been renovating the cottage at the time. Instead, we went and stayed with my parents for two or three weeks while we finished the work on the house. This was actually quite a God-send as my dad wasn’t feeling too well at the time and having a newborn baby in the house really took his mind off things. He spent all of his time, just focused on the baby. Right from the off, Colin was a busy baby and, unfortunately for us, not a baby to whom sleep came easily or quickly. I think he stayed in our room for about seven weeks, before we knew the time had come for him to go into his own room. I don’t think Colin really slept through the night completely for about two years. Alister, his younger brother, was something of a revelation by comparison and slept really quickly. It’s fair to say, Colin wasn’t an easy baby.

  • Hyundai Motorsport Targets Titles in 2019 FIA World Rally Championship
Hyundai Motorsport targets titles in 2019 FIA World Rally Championship Hyundai Motorsport has outlined its ambitions to compete for the FIA World Rally Championship manufacturers’ and drivers’ titles in 2019 Revised crew line-up sees Thierry Neuville and Andreas Mikkelsen tackle the complete season with Dani Sordo scheduled for eight rounds and Sébastien Loeb for six. Under new Team Director Andrea Adamo, Hyundai Motorsport will contest its most comprehensive season in WRC to date with 14 rounds, including a new event in Chile. Birmingham, UK January 11, 2019 – On the eve of the official WRC season launch at the Autosport International show, Hyundai Motorsport has outlined its intentions to compete once again at the very forefront of the FIA World Rally Championship (WRC), with its sights set firmly on the manufacturers’ and drivers’ titles. The team finished as runners-up in 2018, for the third time in a row, having taken the title fight down to the wire. In one of the closest, most hotly contested seasons in recent years, a three-way battle was only concluded at the season finale in Australia. Running a revised crew line-up and with an extended calendar of 14 rounds in 2019, Hyundai Motorsport will aim to revisit the competitive form that helped it score three victories and 11 podium finishes last season. With WRC’s regulations remaining stable, the team has been able to evolve the technical foundations of its rally winning Hyundai i20 Coupe WRC. All aspects of the car have been rigorously assessed in order to perform consistently across all terrains in the coming season.

They guided their Volkswagen Polo R WRC to a fifth win of the season in Catalonia, finishing ahead of Dani Sordo/Marc Martí (E/E, Hyundai) und Thierry Neuville/Nicolas Gilsoul (B/B, Hyundai). Their ninth podium in eleven races triggered wild celebrations. The Frenchmen can no longer be caught at the top of the overall standings in the 2016 FIA World Rally Championship (WRC). Team-mates Andreas Mikkelsen/Anders Jæger (N/N) went into the Rally Spain as their closest rivals in the title race, but the Norwegians’ hopes of winning the championship were dashed when they were forced to retire from the rally. Eighth place in the Manufacturers’ classifications for Jari-Matti Latvala/Miikka Anttila (FIN/FIN) means Volkswagen is well- placed to claim its fourth Manufacturers’ title in a row next time out at the Rally Great Britain. Kankkunen, Mäkinen and Ogier – up there with the biggest names in rallying 952 days in a row at the top of the table: Sébastien Ogier is only the third World Rally Champion to be crowned champion four years in a row in the pinnacle of rallying, and the fourth four-time world champion in the history of the FIA World Rally Championship (WRC).

  • WRC 2019 – Sardegna
MEDIA INFORMATION 2019 FIA World Rally Championship Round 8/14: Rally Italia Sardegna The MICHELIN LTX Force H4 and MICHELIN LTX Force M6 combine to deliver at demanding Rally Italia Sardegna This week’s visit to northern Sardinia for Round 8 of the 2019 FIA World Rally Championship produced a hot, dusty challenge for the cars and crews who had to contend with a cocktail of narrow, rock-lined dirt roads and sandier tracks which revealed a particularly hard-wearing base after the first passes. Despite the challenging terrain, Michelin’s WRC partners were again able to rely on their MICHELIN LTX Force tyres which were available this week in a choice two of the range’s three compounds, namely the H4 (hard) and M6 (medium) versions. The hot and occasionally humid weather saw the teams opt for sometimes contrasting tyre strategies, influenced notably by their cars’ respective positions in the running order in Sardinia where the phenomenon of ‘road sweeping’ can play a big role. On Day 1, for example, Sébastien Ogier and Julien Ingrassia – who were first on the road in their Citroën C3 WRC – went for three hard and two medium Michelins, while Thierry Neuville and Nicolas Gilsoul (Hyundai i20 Coupe WRC) chose six MICHELIN LTX Force M6s. “Tyre strategies had a big influence on the different performances we saw in Sardinia,” notes Arnaud Rémy, the manager of Michelin’s rally programmes. “Often, the drivers chose their compounds and how many spares they wanted to carry just moments before leaving service. Although the regulations specify that there must always be at least one spare in the car, many of them took two, and occasionally of the same compound.
