C: I thought your band was very strong in Lawrence; there were times when the improvisation was on an extremely high level. •.... J: Yeah, it's getting where those guys are making it very hard for me to pull the rug out from under them. The first couple of times I pulled the rug out from under them, they were kind of taken aback by it, but what ever I do now they're right behind me ... they're my shadow. And sometimes they're right with me. I don't have to say anything to them anymore---I can pull any kind of stunt---and they'll go off on their own, and I'll go with them, and make new songs. C: Do you ever write material and then play it for them? J: No. NEIN C: How do you go about creating a song in the context of your band? J: On stage? C: What do you think about the politics between individuals? Is it possible for people to meet and understand one another and not have conflict? J: There is a problem with rising expectations.
