Town of announces new Director of Public Works & Utilities

Smiths Falls – The Town of Smiths Falls is pleased to announce the hiring of a new Director of Public Works & Utilities, Paul McMunn. McMunn will officially take on his new role effective September 7, 2021.

McMunn has over 17 years of Public Works experience, along with private sector construction management experience, and has progressed through increasingly senior roles during his career most recently as Manager of Public Works for the Town of .

McMunn is a graduate of the Civil Engineering Technologist program from St. Lawrence College, Kingston, and is registered through the Association of Certified Engineering Technologists and Technicians as a Certified Engineering Technologist (C.E.T.). He also has an Executive Diploma in Municipal Management from AMCTO.

“We are delighted to welcome Paul and his wealth of experience to Smiths Falls in this key senior management role,” said Malcolm Morris, Chief Administrative Officer for the Town of Smiths Falls. “Paul joins the Town at a critical juncture and will lead a very capable team of staff along with several high-profile infrastructure projects including Phase 2 of the Beckwith Street renewal.”

Originally from Bolingbroke (Bob's Lake), McMunn now lives in with his wife Christina, and their two children. Given his rural roots, McMunn has always appreciated the charm and sense of community that resonates from a small town.

Some notable professional achievements include the replacement of a vehicular bridge crossing, 15 full reconstruction civil projects, large scale sewage lagoon desludging project, and the incorporation of a "Market Square" into a Town park.

“I am looking forward to meeting all staff, Council, and members of the community in Smiths Falls,” said McMunn. “I’m eager and excited to get down to work on future capital projects and to oversee the Beckwith Street Redevelopment project through to completion.”
