Th e fi rst ever Melbourne City2Sea fun-run saw a huge crowd descend on Southbank Boulevard for the start of the race during November.

13,500 people created a fantastic buzz of energy as they counted down to the start of the race, which was based on Sydney’s City2Surf. Showing their commitment to fi tness, competitors kicked off the race at 9am on a Sunday, making their way from Southbank down to St Kilda beach. Th ey were sent out onto the course by newly- crowned, three-time Hawaiian Ironman winner Craig Alexander. Mr Alexander was thrilled to be involved in the race, telling the event’s website: “It’s a great privilege to be part of this fantastic community-focused event and I’m honoured to have been selected to offi cially start the fi rst ever City2Sea.” Th e 14km race was won by Steve Kelly, in a time of 43:43, while in the female category the winner was Kate Smyth in 49:56. Th e State Services Authority (SSA) has found no deep- seeded issues within Arts Victoria, according to the report it released during November.

Arts Victoria is part of the Department of the Premier and Cabinet and oversees many of the states arts facilities including Southbank’s Arts Centre and National Gallery of Victoria. Th e SSA was employed as an independent reviewer, after an incident had been reported against a staff member by another member of staff . Th e incident was found to be isolated and not refl ective of a larger cultural problem within the organisation.
