Whether it’s buying ingredients for a special meal, something for the garden, some treats for the family, catching up with friends or neighbours, meeting someone new or listening to some music, it’s worth coming out for the morning to visit the Paynesville Farmers Market.

Farmers Markets are a traditional way of buying local produce and home made products, and there are many benefits for the buyer, the producer, the community and the environment. The buyer has the opportunity to meet the person behind the product and to learn more about the product’s history. In a world where most of the food we eat is processed and packaged it’s rare to buy direct from the producer and learn a bit about where the food you’re eating has come from.

The producer has another site to display and promote their produce and products. They also benefit from the feedback they receive direct from the public, as well as the opportunity to share ideas and recipes.

The community benefits from having another local event where people can come together in a relaxed settng to meet or catch up, and the environment benefits as produce and products have to travel less to reach their market.

Sites for stallholders are available for $25 in summer and $15 in winter. All funds raised are used to maintain and develop the reserve for the benefit of the local community. Voices of Casey has participated in Casey, Cranbourne Secondary College, Hampton Park Baptist Church, Bunjil Place and City events. They were proud to be invited to perform on the opening night of the beautiful facilities of Bunjil Place, where, in conjunction with participants from La Trobe and Cranbourne, they initiated the stage in October 2017.

This is a non-auditioned choir, attracting enthusiastic amateurs as well as seasoned singers. Our repertoire includes well known classics, pop songs and contemporary classics. Members are all volunteers, giving of their time and fundraising efforts to enable weekly rehearsals and performances throughout the year.

Now in partnership with Play It Forward, the Voices of Casey membership is drawn from the City of Casey and surrounding suburbs. Voices of Casey is always open to new singers, especially men, to share our fun, friendship and most of all the joy of singing together.

25/11/2019 Choir of Hard Knocks rehearsal and Performance began rehearsing on September 13, 2006 under the inspiring musical leadership of award winning singer, conductor, VIC lunch composer and recording artist, Dr Jonathon Welch AM. Created initially as a television construct by Jason Stephens and Fremantle Media, ‘Choir of Hard Knocks’ was the subject of the international award winning ABC TV series..

Choir of Hard Knocks is credited with being the only artists in Australian music history to have been awarded the highest accolades in the same year. These include a Logie Award for the Most Outstanding Factual Documentary TV Series in 2007 (for the ABC’s ‘Choir of Hard Knocks’ documentary), an ARIA award for Best TV Soundtrack, Platinum ARIA award for their first CD “Songs from the TV Series” a Gold ARIA award for their second CD “Songs of Hope and Inspiration” and a coveted Helpmann Award for Most Outstanding Special Event for their sell out concerts at Opera House in 2007.

Now in their 13th year, their dedicated Founding Artistic Director, Dr Jonathon Welch AM has passed the baton to fantastic Co-Directors Danielle Matthews and Adam Przewlocki. The choir rehearse weekly at St Michael’s Uniting Church Hall. Most importantly, the ongoing and regular contact the choir provides to the members has had a profound effect on their lives, leading many of the original 52 back to either part time or full time study or work. The choir has also given members the opportunity to find new purpose in life. Many had become socially excluded due to their socio- economic circumstances, and the choir has enabled them to acquire new skills and rebuild personal confidence and self esteem. It has also created long lasting and ongoing friendships and relationships, and a unique opportunity for the choir members to make a positive and enduring contribution back to the community and has inspired a world wide movement of ‘street choirs

The event is an initiative of Lithgow High School students and the Uniting NDIS Local Area Coordination program.

It will run from 11am-2pm at Queen Elizabeth Park with a free barbecue, raffle prizes and plenty of fun and games.

The idea of the festival is for people to come try out new hobbies and explore local community groups and services, according to Nepean Blue Mountains community engagement officer Renae Harmer.

"We want everyone to come out, those who feel isolated, those with disabilities and the general community and show them what's out there and what a great community we have," she said.

"It's free and it's about connecting people to social groups and finding them a hobby."

The event was planned with the help of Lithgow High students who have been working closely with uniting on skill building programs.

"They created the flyers, brain-stormed, and have been very helpful in organising the event," Ms Harmer said.

Year 10 Lithgow High student Brittany Palmer said it had been a bit scary having to face fears and approach others when it came to organsing the event.

"We're being taught how to set up activities and learn new things it's been a bit scary but we have been encouraging each other and building together," she said.

It is also free as we Lynette Mitchell VIC do it outside with no overheads and the Founder, Indian Physician Dr Madan Kataria, desires all community laughter clubs be free and open to everybody without discrimination. His motto is ‘World Peace Through Laughter and from my experience, laughter is making huge differences in peoples lives.

We do not tell jokes at laughter club and practice ‘fake it till you make it’ because when we are new there may be uncomfortableness or resistance to laughing ‘for no reason’. This quickly changes as a general rule and we encourage everyone to become involved, as it’s ideal to take ourselves less seriously. Getting out of your comfort zone encourages self confidence and it’s fun, as we embrace our inner children. My husband John confirms this and says he becomes energised and to stretch yourself – use the opportunity to get out of your comfort zone; we need to keep on learning and experiencing new things. What’s more, scientific research has proven that Laughter Yoga is very good for you and is fast becoming accepted as a beneficial, even healing modality.
