He is honest and he never neglects you. He is the greatest that your eyes will ever see. No other man like him will there ever be. When you are in your bedroom and scared at night; A father comes in to let you know that everything is alright. Education is important, so stay in school; hanging out on the streets is not so cool. Listen to me son, so the day you become a man, Like me, you will do everything you can. A father is like no other man around Another man like him can never be found. -Sally B. Williams Scenic Drives Sue has been taking us on some incredible scenic drives. A resident favourite last month was definitely the Tulip Festival! The history of the Tulip Festival is that after the Allies liberated the Netherlands in 1945, the Dutch royal family returned home. The gift of tulips is an ongoing tradition, and each year the people of the Netherlands and the Dutch royal family each send 10,000 bulbs to Canada in recognition of the close ties between the two countries! It is a beautiful sight! Retail Therapy We haven’t been able to go shopping, but that doesn’t mean we are going without! Thank you to Dollarama for supplying us with essentials for our residents! CETERA INVESTMENT MANAGEMENT | ENTERING THE TWILIGHT ZONE 1 Entering the Twilight Zone Eerie Parallels Between the 1950s and Today Cetera® Investment Management LLC CETERA INVESTMENT MANAGEMENT | ENTERING THE TWILIGHT ZONE 2 You may feel like you are traveling through another dimension, a dimension not only of sight and sound but of mind. But our next stop is not the Twilight Zone, or so we hope. It’s a journey to a wondrous land whose boundaries are that of the imagination—one that may spark some feelings of familiarity. Join us for a journey that compares today’s marketplace with one of a not-so-distant past: the 1950s. At that time, the United States had very high debt levels, low bond yields, new technologies, an exodus to the suburbs, and the first space race.* Sound familiar? We explore what these parallel trends might tell us about our future. * Although it was between nations, not billionaires. Autorama • BURNIN’ RUBBER. No decade is more synonymous • DRIVE TO ME. The days of rollerskating carhops with car culture than the 1950s. From hot rods to family bringing a burger and fries to our car window, like in a sedans, Americans were infatuated with their cars. The scene from “Happy Days”, are largely over (with a few post-war economy shifted automobiles to a higher gear: exceptions). The current pandemic led to a boom in total car registrations revved up from 25 million in 1950 food and grocery delivery services, a trend that will likely to 67 million by 1958.1 stay with us because of the convenience.

  • “Happy Days Are Here Again”: the Song That Launched FDR's
“Happy Days Are Here Again”: The Song That Launched FDR’s Presidency In 1929, just prior to the Great Crash of the New York Stock Market, Milton Ager and Jack Yellen recorded, “Happy Days Are Here Again.” The song was an instant hit and would remain a popular refrain throughout the 1930s, as the theme of radio shows sponsored by Lucky Strike cigarettes. In 1932, the song became closely associated to the presidential campaign of New York Democratic Governor Franklin Delano Roosevelt in his effort to unseat incumbent President Herbert Hoover. When Roosevelt arrived in Chicago to accept his party’s nomination for president, he entered the room to the sound of “Happy Days Are Hear Again.” The song and its cheerful lyrics matched Roosevelt’s upbeat tempo and stood in stark contrast to Hoover’s demeanor. In addition, the song resonated throughout the nation as most Americans were looking to Roosevelt in hopes that his pledge of “a new deal for the American people” would usher them safely through the Great Depression into a new era of economic prosperity. “Happy Days Are Here Again” has long been associated with the Democratic party, and remains a sentimental favorite for its political leaders and supporters such as singer and actress Barbara Streisand, who has recorded her own version of the song. “Happy Days Are Here Again” is listed as #47 on the Recording Industry Association of America's list of "Songs of the Century". ---------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- “Happy Days Are Here Again” by Jack Yellen & Milton Alger As recorded by Leo Reisman and His Orchestra, with Lou Levin, vocal (November 1929) for the 1930 MGM movie Chasing Rainbows .
