This paper analyzes, main cartographic material (especially geographic and ethnographic maps) published in different times, and through them assesses spatial spreading of the Albanian territory and occupation of a vast part of the territory by neighbor countries.

Albanian normal schools have a record of long, difficult, but also glorious path. They were the main homes for generations of teachers and also the place where it was necessary to prepare the framework for education and awareness of the nation. Albanian teachers, in different periods of history had run the greatest risk of extinction of national culture and education. They planted the sound seeds by which had brought the essence of national awareness, which in a century struggle of unparalleled trials tried to revive education, science, culture and Albania. In the history of Albania teachers and veterans of teaching, wherever they worked and acted, played the leading role, contributed as they could with their valuable works, which undoubtedly served to their students, future teachers, in raising subsequently the national level of conscience for their learning and teaching. Key words: Normal school, education, culture, teacher-students, pedagogic thinking, Albanian territory. Introduction Albanian Normal School has a record of long, difficult, but glorious path. Its purpose was to prepare the necessary framework for education and awareness of the nation. Albanian teachers, in different periods of heavy and full of vicissitudes, did valuable work in the moments and the most crucial turning points and run the greatest risks of extinction of our national culture and education.

Flamur Gashi: I am Flamur Gashi, born in Peja and raised there until a certain age. Then, years outside Peja follow. I was born in Peja, in a middle class family. My father was a teacher, my mother was a housewife. We are six children in our family: three brothers and three sisters. We have been through life challenges just like most Kosovar Albanians. The history of my family is a little more interesting, more different, not to say more interesting and different than the one of the others. My father was born in Albania, while my mother was born in Peja. My children were born in Albania and I was born in Peja, my wife was born in Albania. So, it is a beautiful combination between official Albania and Albanian lands outside Albania and Kosovo. The origin of my family most likely is in Niš, but somewhere around 1785-‘86, when there was a big flow of Albanians, because of Serbian repression and violence happened, they moved and came to the let’s say, a central Albanian area, somewhere in the region of Peja, in Banjë of Peja and in Peja, then to be able to constantly move between Albania and Kosovo.

After the end of the conflict, that saw the departure of the Serbian forces from Kosovo (1999), some of the Albanian-speaking activists from Switzerland returned to their homeland. Many others remained in Switzerland, where they largely diminished or terminated their homeland engagement. Since the end of the war, very little attention has been paid to these former champions of the national cause in Switzerland. Furthermore, there is also very little literature on the memories of the mobilisation in Switzerland and the related discourses of belonging to the “Albanian nation”. The situation differs in Kosovo where several researchers have analysed the memorialisation of the recent past. This dissertation explores the narratives of homeland engagement related by Albanian-speaking former activists who engaged on behalf of the national cause in Kosovo from Switzerland in the 1980s and 1990s.
