1985 Who's New at Kalamazoo WELCOME CLASS OF 1989 & TRANSFER STUDENTS To the Members of the Class of 1989: It is with great pleasure that I welcome each of you to Kalamazoo College. I look for ward to sharing the excitement of the next four years with you. During my first years at "K" College, I have developed an appreciation for the diverse experiences you will have as you progress through our unique curriculum. In addition to greater knowledge, skills, and independence, you will also gain ,many lasting friendships that will continue and deepen during your years as alumni. I hope you will make the most of the many opportunities that await you. I look forward to meeting each of you personally, and offer my best wishes for a pro ductive and rewarding college carrer. David W. Breneman President 2 Dr. Wen Chao Chen Executive Vice-President Director of the Stryker Center Dr. Warren Board Vice-President for Academic Affairs Provost Dr. Haydn Ambrose Vice-President for Institutional Development 3 Welcome to "K" college! We hope to get to know most of you over the next year and hopefully work with some of you in Student Commission. As entering freshpersons, we realize that the challenges of the academics here will keep you busy. Although this will play a large role in your college experience, involvement in student organizations and activities is just as important. Finding time away from the books and applying yourself to campus activities should be of the highest priority, whether it be in athletics, cultural and ethnic organizations, the college newspaper, the film society, music, the radio station, student government, theater, the yearbook, or an individual interest. "K" is a community which depends on the ideas and motivation of individuals. On behalf of the student organizations, we welcome and invite your participation in campus life. --..._:~ ~ ?-#~ Jennifer Lepard Tim McLean Summer/Fall Winter/Spring 4 Dr. Marilyn LaPlante Dr. Sandra Greene Dean of Students Ass't. PUBLIC FACILITIES Township Hall I’ve added headings for clarity and easier readability. Keep or delete? Kasson Township Hall is located at the intersection of S. Newman Road and W. Kasson Center Road. The hall was purchased from the Michigan State Grange in 1968. Since it is located on a two (2) acre parcel, there is adequate room for expansion if and when necessary. The hall is used for township government meetings and as an election polling location, as well as being available for rental for small public uses. — New addition Schools The local area Glen Lake Community Schools campus is located in Kasson Township on West Burdickville Road (County Road 616) near the northwest corner of the township. The campus houses kindergarten through high school grade 12. Most recent (fall 2020) student count is 699 students total with a high school graduation rate exceeding 90%. The student teacher ratio is 14:1. Glen Lake students may also access vocational programs in Traverse City at the Career Tech Center and the Manufacturing Technology Academy, both administered through the Traverse Bay Area (TBA) Intermediate School District. — New addition. Parochial schools are available outside the township, in Lake Leelanau, and Traverse City. There are Private schools are also available nearby, although not located in the township: Leelanau Montessori Public School Academy, the Leelanau School, Pathfinder School, and the Interlochen Arts Academy. Northwest Michigan College, located in Traverse City, is the only institution of higher learning in the area. High school dual enrolment courses, cooperative, life long learning, and extension courses from state universities may be taken at the college, with various degree programs available.

  • A Kobold Revolution This Is the First Ever Dungeons and Dragons Adventure to Be Published in Sapere Aude
A Kobold Revolution This is the first ever Dungeons and Dragons adventure to be published in Sapere Aude. Roleplaying games are not a storytelling medium that most people are literate in. What is a d20, and what do you do with it when your Game Master (GM) says “make a Charisma check?” Games are a rich storytelling medium, one that grants its players the ability to craft a completely unique story with them as the stars. By publishing this adventure in the pages of Sapere Aude, I hope to show to you that roleplaying games are not just entertainment, but a medium of literary escape, social bonding, team building, and creative thinking every bit as potent as a novel, a play, or a puzzle. A Kobold Revolution is not a typical Dungeons and Dragons (D&D) experience. It is not one in which a group of lawless adventurers enter a monster-infested dungeon, slaughter its inhabitants, and leave with their gold. This adventure provides the framework to tell the story of how five puny creatures stood up to a mighty tyrant, and how they prevailed and achieved their freedom— or failed, and were brutally suppressed. The outcome of the story depends on the actions of the players, and the players have total freedom in how they choose to act. This act of roleplaying invests the players deeply into the story and requires them to think cleverly about how their character would overcome the challenges placed before them. The “adventure module” is an unusual art form, because it is incomplete. In that way, it is similar to the script of a play—though instead of being filled with concrete dialogue and stage direction, it is filled with charts, numbers, maps, and read-aloud text that encourages the reader to paraphrase and improvise as frequently as they wish.
