First Portion Deuteronomy Chapter 1 א ֵ ֣א ֶלּה ַה ְדּ ָבִ ֗רים ֲא ֶ֨שׁר ִדּ ֶ ֤בּר מ ֶשׁ ֙ה ֶא ָל־כּל־ ִי ְשָׂר ֵ֔אל These are the words which Moses spoke to all Israel on .1 that side of the Jordan in the desert, in the plain opposite the ְבּ ֵ ֖ﬠ ֶבר ַהַיְּר ֵ ֑דּן ַבּ ִמּ ְד ָ֡בּר ָ ֽבּ ֲﬠָר ָב ֩ה ֨מוֹל ֜סוּף ֵ ֽבּ ָין־פּ ָ ֧ארן וּ ֵ ֽב ֛ ֹין־תּ ֶפל ְו ָל ָ ֥בן ַ ֽו ֲח ֵצ ֖רֹת ְו ִ֥די ָז ָ ֽהב: Red Sea, between Paran and Tofel and Lavan and Hazeroth and Di Zahav.

ב ַא ַ֨חד ָﬠ ָ ֥שׂר ֙יוֹם ֵ ֽמ ֵ ֔חֹרב ֶ ֖דֶּר ַהר־ ֵשׂ ִ ֑ﬠיר ַ ֖ﬠד ָק ֵ ֥דשׁ It is eleven days' journey from Horeb by way of Mount Seir" .2

ַבְּרֵ ֽנ ַ: ".to Kadesh Barnea

ג ַ ֽו ְ י ִ ֙הי ְבּ ַאְר ָבּ ִ ֣ﬠים ָשׁ ָ֔נה ְבּ ַﬠ ְשׁ ֵ ֽתּי־ ָﬠ ָ ֥שׂר ֖חֹ ֶדשׁ ְבּ ֶא ָ ֣חד ,It came to pass in the fortieth year, in the eleventh month .3 on the first of the month, that Moses spoke to the children of ַל ֑חֹ ֶדשׁ ִדּ ֶ ֤בּר מ ֶשׁ ֙ה ֶאל־ ְבֵּ ֣ני ִי ְשָׂר ֵ֔אל ְ֠כּ ֠כֹל ֲא ֶ֨שׁר ִצָ ֧וּה ְי ָ ֛הוֹה ֹא ֖תוֹ ֲא ֵל ֶ ֽהם: Israel according to all that the Lord had commanded him regarding them;

ד ַ ֽא ֲחֵ ֣רי ַהכֹּ ֗תוֹ ֵ֚את ִס ֙יחֹן ֶ ֣מ ֶל ָ ֽה ֱא ֹמִ ֔רי ֲא ֶ ֥שׁר ֵ ֖יוֹשׁב After he had smitten Sihon, king of the Amorites, who dwelt .4 ְבּ ֶח ְשׁ ֑בּוֹן ְו ֵ֗את ֚עוֹג ֶ ֣מ ֶל ַה ָבּ ָ֔שׁן ֲא ֶשׁר־ ֵ ֥יוֹשׁב in Heshbon, and Og, king of the Bashan, who dwelt in ְבּ ַﬠ ְשׁ ָתּ ֖רֹת ְבּ ֶא ְדֶ ֽר ִﬠי: .Ashtaroth in Edrei

ה ְבּ ֵ ֥ﬠ ֶבר ַהַיְּר ֵ ֖דּן ְבּ ֶ ֣אֶרץ ָ ֑מוֹאב ִ ֣הוֹאיל מ ֶ֔שׁה ֵבּ ֵ ֛אר On that side of the Jordan, in the land of Moab, Moses .5

ֶאת ַ־ה ָ ֥תּוֹרה ַה ֖זּ ֹאת ֵל ֽ ֹאמר: ,commenced [and] explained this Law, saying

ו ְי ָ ֧הוֹה ֱא ֵ ֛הינוּ ִדּ ֶ ֥בּר ֵא ֵ ֖לינוּ ְבּ ֵ ֣חֹרב ֵל ֑ ֹאמר ַרב־ ָל ֶ ֥כם The Lord our God spoke to us in Horeb, saying, 'You have" .6

ֶ ֖שׁ ֶבת ָבּ ָ ֥הר ַהֶ ֽזּה: .dwelt long enough at this mountain

ז ְפּ ֣נוּ | ְוּס ֣ﬠוּ ָל ֶ֗כם וּ ֨בֹאוּ ַ ֥הר ָ ֽה ֱא ֹמִר֘י ְו ֶא ָל־כּל־ ְשׁ ֵכ ָנ ֒יו Turn and journey, and come to the mountain of the .7 ָ ֽבּ ֲﬠָר ָ ֥בה ָב ָ ֛הר וּ ַב ְשּׁ ֵפ ָ ֥לה וּ ַבֶ ֖נּ ֶ גב וּ ְב ֣חוֹף ַהָיּ֑ם ֶ ֤אֶרץ Amorites and to all its neighboring places, in the plain, on the ַה ְכַּ ֽנ ֲﬠ ִ֙ני ְו ַה ְלּ ָב ֔נוֹן ַﬠ ַד־ה ָנּ ָ ֥הר ַה ָגּ֖דֹל ְנ ַה ְר־פָּ ֽרת: mountain, and in the lowland, and in the south and by the seashore, the land of the Canaanites, and the Lebanon, until the great river, the Euphrates River.

ח ְר ֵ ֛אה ָנ ַ ֥ת ִתּי ִל ְפ ֵני ֶ ֖כם ֶאת ָ־ה ָ ֑אֶרץ ֚בֹּאוּ ְוּר ֣שׁוּ See, I have set the land before you; come and possess the .8 land which the Lord swore to your forefathers, to Abraham, to ֶאת ָ־ה ָ֔אֶרץ ֲא ֶ ֣שׁר ִנ ְשׁ ַ ֣בּע ְ֠י ָהוֹ ֠ה ַ ֽל ֲא ֨בֹ ֵתי ֶ֜כם ְל ַא ְבָר ָ֨הם ְל ִי ְצ ָ ֤חק ְוּלַ ֽי ֲﬠקֹ ֙ב ָל ֵ ֣תת ָל ֶ֔הם ְוּל ַזְר ָ ֖ﬠם ַא ֲחֵר ֶ ֽיהם: Isaac, and to Jacob, to give them and their descendants after them.

ט ָ ֽו ֹא ַ ֣מר ֲא ֵל ֶ֔כם ָבּ ֵ ֥ﬠת ַה ִ ֖הוא ֵל ֑ ֹאמר ֽל ֹא־אוּ ַ ֥כל ְל ַבִ ֖דּי And I said to you at that time, saying, 'I cannot carry you .9

ְשׂ ֵ ֥את ֶא ְת ֶ ֽכם: .alone

י ְי ָ ֥הוֹה ֱא ֽ ֵהי ֶ ֖כם ִהְר ָ ֣בּה ֶא ְת ֶ ֑כם ְו ִה ְנּ ֶ ֣כם ַה֔יּוֹם ְכּ ֽכוֹ ְכ ֵ ֥בי The Lord, your God, has multiplied you, and behold, you .10

ַה ָשּׁ ַ ֖מִים ָלֽרֹב: .are today as the stars of the heavens in abundance

יא ְי ָ ֞הוֹה ֱא ֵ ֣הי ֲא ֽב ֵוֹת ֶ֗כם יֹ ֵ ֧סף ֲﬠ ֵלי ֶ ֛כם ָכּ ֶ ֖כם ֶ ֣א ֶלף May the Lord God of your forefathers add to you a .11 ְפּ ָﬠ ִ ֑מים ִֽוי ָבֵ ֣ר ֶא ְת ֶ֔כם ַ ֽכּ ֲא ֶ ֖שׁר ִדּ ֶ ֥בּר ָל ֶ ֽכם: thousandfold as many as you are, and may He bless you, as He spoke concerning you!

Second Portion Deuteronomy Chapter 1 יב ֵאי ָ ֥כה ֶא ָ ֖שּׂא ְל ַבִ ֑דּי ָטְר ֲח ֶ ֥כם וּ ַמ ַ ֽשּׂ ֲא ֶ ֖כם ְוִֽרי ְב ֶ ֽכם: How can I bear your trouble, your burden, and your strife .12 all by myself?

יג ָה ֣בוּ ָ֠ל ֶ ֠כם ֲא ָנ ִ֨שׁים ֲח ָכ ִ ֧מים ְוּנבִֹ ֛נים ִֽו ֻיד ִ ֖ﬠים ,Prepare for yourselves wise and understanding men .13 ְל ִשׁ ְב ֵטי ֶ ֑כם ַ ֽו ֲא ִשׂי ֵ ֖מם ְבָּ ֽרא ֵשׁי ֶ ֽכם: known among your tribes, and I will make them heads over you.

יד ַו ַ ֽתּ ֲﬠ ֖נוּ ֹא ִ ֑תי ַו ֣תּ ֹ ְאמ ֔רוּ טוֹב ַ־ה ָדּ ָ ֥בר ֲא ֶשׁ ִר־דּ ַ ֖בְּר ָתּ And you answered me and said, 'The thing you have .14

ַ ֽל ֲﬠ ֽשׂוֹת: '.spoken is good for us to do

טו ָ ֽו ֶא ַ֞קּח ֶאת ָ־רא ֵ ֣שׁי ִשׁ ְב ֵטי ֶ֗כם ֲא ָנ ִ ֤שׁים ֲח ָכ ִמי ֙ם So I took the heads of your tribes, men wise and well .15 ִֽו ֻיד ִ֔ﬠים ָ ֽו ֶא ֵ ֥תּן ָ ֛אוֹתם ָרא ִ ֖שׁים ֲﬠ ֵלי ֶ ֑כם ָשֵׂ ֨רי ֲא ָל ִ֜פים known, and I made them heads over you, leaders over

ְו ָשֵׂ ֣רי ֵמ ֗אוֹת ְו ָשֵׂ ֤רי ֲח ִמ ִשּׁי ֙ם ְו ָשֵׂ ֣רי ֲﬠ ָשׂ ֔רֹת ְו ֽשֹׁ ְטִ ֖רים thousands, leaders over hundreds, leaders over fifties, and leaders over tens, and officers, over your tribes. ְל ִשׁ ְב ֵטי ֶ ֽכם:

טז ָ ֽו ֲא ַצֶוּ ֙ה ֶאת־ ֣שֹׁ ְפ ֵטי ֶ֔כם ָבּ ֵ ֥ﬠת ַה ִ ֖הוא ֵל ֑ ֹאמר ָשׁ ֤ ֹמ ַ And I commanded your judges at that time, saying, "Hear .16 ֵ ֽבּ ֲין־א ֵחי ֶכ ֙ם ְוּשׁ ַפ ְט ֶ ֣תּם ֶ֔צ ֶדק ֵ ֽבּ ִ֥ין־אישׁ וּ ֵ ֽב ָין־א ִ ֖חיו וּ ֵ ֥בין disputes] between your brothers and judge justly between a] ֵגּֽרוֹ: .man and his brother, and between his litigant

יז ֽל ֹא ַ־ת ִ֨כּירוּ ָפ ִ֜נים ַבּ ִמּ ְשׁ ָ֗פּט ַכּ ָקּ ֤טֹן ַכּ ָגּדֹ ֙ל ִתּ ְשׁ ָמ ֔עוּן You shall not favor persons in judgment; [rather] you shall .17 ֤ל ֹא ָת ֨ג ֙וּרוּ ִמ ְפּ ֵנ ִ֔י־אישׁ ִ֥כּי ַה ִמּ ְשׁ ָ ֖פּט ֵ ֽלא ִ ֣הים ֑הוּא hear the small just as the great; you shall not fear any man, for ְו ַה ָדּ ָב ֙ר ֲא ֶ ֣שׁר ִי ְק ֶ ֣שׁה ִמ ֶ֔כּם ַתּ ְקִר ֥בוּן ֵא ַ ֖לי ְוּשׁ ַמ ְﬠ ִֽתּיו: the judgment is upon the Lord, and the case that is too difficult for you, bring to me, and I will hear it."

יח ָ ֽו ֲא ַצֶ ֥וּה ֶא ְת ֶ ֖כם ָבּ ֵ ֣ﬠת ַה ִ ֑הוא ֵ ֥את ָכּ ַל־ה ְדּ ָבִ ֖רים And I commanded you at that time all the things you .18

ֲא ֶ ֥שׁר ַ ֽתּ ֲﬠ ֽשׂוּן: .should do

יט ַו ִנּ ַ ֣סּע ֵ ֽמ ֵ ֗חֹרב ַו ֵ֡נּ ֶל ֵ ֣את ָכּ ַל־ה ִמּ ְד ָ ֣בּר ַה ָגּ ֩דוֹל And we journeyed from Horeb and went through all that .19 ְו ַה ָ ֨נּוֹרא ַה ֜הוּא ֲא ֶ ֣שׁר ְר ִאי ֶ֗תם ֶ֚דֶּר ַ ֣הר ָ ֽה ֱא ֹמִ ֔רי great and fearful desert, which you saw, by the way of the

ַ ֽכּ ֲא ֶ ֥שׁר ִצָ ֛וּה ְי ָ ֥הוֹה ֱא ֵ ֖הינוּ ֹא ָ ֑תנוּ ַו ָנּ ֕ב ֹא ַ ֖ﬠד ָק ֵ ֥דשׁ mountain of the Amorites, as the Lord, our God, commanded us; and we came up to Kadesh barnea. ַבְּרֵ ֽנ ַ:

כ ָ ֽו ֹא ַ ֖מר ֲא ֵל ֶ ֑כם ָבּ ֶאת ֙ם ַﬠ ַ ֣ד־הר ָ ֽה ֱא ֹמִ ֔רי ֲא ֶשׁר־ ְי ָ ֥הוֹה And I said to you, "You have come to the mountain of the .20

ֱא ֵ ֖הינוּ ֹנ ֵ ֥תן ָ ֽלנוּ: .Amorites, which the Lord, our God, is giving us

כא ְר ֵ ֠אה ָנ ַ֨תן ְי ָ ֧הוֹה ֱא ֶ ֛הי ְל ָפֶ ֖ני ֶאת ָ־ה ָ ֑אֶרץ ֲﬠ ֵ ֣לה ;Behold, the Lord, your God, has set the land before you .21 ֵ ֗רשׁ ַ ֽכּ ֲא ֶשׁ ֩ר ִדּ ֶ֨בּר ְי ָ ֜הוֹה ֱא ֵ ֤הי ֲאבֹ ֶ֨ת ֙י ָ֔ל ַא ִל־תּ ָ ֖ירא go up and possess it, as the Lord, God of your fathers has ְו ַא ֵל־תּ ָ ֽחת: ".spoken to you; you shall neither fear nor be dismayed

Third Portion Deuteronomy Chapter 1 כב ַו ִתּ ְקְר ֣בוּן ֵא ַל֘י ֻכּ ְלּ ֶכ ֒ם ַו ֽתּ ֹ ְאמ ֗רוּ ִנ ְשׁ ְל ָ ֤חה ֲא ָנ ִשׁי ֙ם And all of you approached me and said, "Let us send men .22 ְל ָפ ֵ֔נינוּ ְו ַי ְח ְפּרוּ־ ָ ֖לנוּ ֶאת ָ־ה ָ ֑אֶרץ ְו ָי ִ ֤שׁבוּ ֹא ָ֨ת ֙נוּ ָדּ ָ֔בר ahead of us so that they will search out the land for us and

ֶאת ַ־ה ֶ֨דֶּר ֙ ֲא ֶ ֣שׁר ַ ֽנ ֲﬠ ֶלה־ ָ֔בּהּ ְו ֵא ֙ת ֶ ֽה ָﬠִ ֔רים ֲא ֶ ֥שׁר ָנ ֖ב ֹא bring us back word by which route we shall go up, and to which cities we shall come." ֲא ֵל ֶ ֽיהן:

כג ַו ִיּ ַ ֥יטב ְבּ ֵﬠ ַ ֖יני ַה ָדּ ָ ֑בר ָ ֽו ֶאַ ֤קּח ִמ ֶכּ ֙ם ְשֵׁ ֣נים ָﬠ ָ ֣שׂר And the matter pleased me; so I took twelve men from .23

ֲא ָנ ִ֔שׁים ִ֥אישׁ ֶא ָ ֖חד ַל ָ ֽשּׁ ֶבט: .you, one man for each tribe

כד ַו ִיּ ְפ ֙נוּ ַוַ ֽיּ ֲﬠ ֣לוּ ָה ָ֔הָרה ַו ָיּ ֖בֹאוּ ַﬠ ַ ֣ד־נ ַחל ֶא ְשׁ ֑כֹּל ַו ְיַר ְגּ ֖לוּ And they turned and went up to the mountain, and they .24

ֹא ָ ֽתהּ: .came to the valley of Eshkol and spied it out

כה ַו ִיּ ְק ֤חוּ ְבָי ָד ֙ם ִמ ְפִּ ֣רי ָה ָ֔אֶרץ ַו ִ ֖יּוֹרדוּ ֵא ֵ ֑לינוּ ַו ָיּ ִ֨שׁבוּ [And they took some of the fruit of the land in their hand[s .25 ֹא ָ ֤תנוּ ָד ָב ֙ר ַו ֣יּ ֹ ְאמ ֔רוּ טוֹ ָ ֣בה ָה ָ֔אֶרץ ֲא ֶשׁר־ ְי ָ ֥הוֹה ֱא ֵ ֖הינוּ ,and brought it down to us, brought us back word, and said ֹנ ֵ ֥תן ָ ֽלנוּ: ".The land the Lord, our God, is giving us is good"

כו ְו ֥ל ֹא ֲא ִבי ֶ ֖תם ַ ֽל ֲﬠ ֑ת ַו ַתּ ְמ ֕רוּ ֶאת ִ֥־פּי ְי ָ ֖הוֹה But you did not want to go up, and you rebelled against .26

ֱא ֽ ֵהי ֶ ֽכם: .the commandment of the Lord, your God

כז ַו ֵתָּ ֽר ְג ֤נוּ ְב ָ ֽא ֳה ֵלי ֶכ ֙ם ַו ֣תּ ֹ ְאמ ֔רוּ ְבּ ִשׂ ְנ ַ ֤את ְי ָהוֹ ֙ה ֹא ָ֔תנוּ You murmured in your tents and said, '"Because the Lord .27 ֽה ִוֹצ ָ ֖יאנוּ ֵמ ֶ ֣אֶרץ ִמ ְצָ ֑ר ִים ָל ֵ ֥תת ֹא ָ ֛תנוּ ְבַּ ֥יד ָ ֽה ֱא ֹמִ ֖רי hates us, He took us out of the land of Egypt, to deliver us into ְל ַה ְשׁ ִמ ֵ ֽידנוּ: ".the hand[s] of the Amorites to exterminate us

כח ָאָ ֣נה | ֲאַ ֣נ ְחנוּ עֹ ִ֗לים ַא֩ ֵח ֩ינוּ ֵה ַ֨מסּוּ ֶאת־ ְל ָב ֵ֜בנוּ ,Where shall we go up? Our brothers have discouraged us .28 saying, "A people greater and taller than we; cities great and ֵל ֗ ֹאמר ַ ֣ﬠם ָגּ֤דוֹל ָוָר ֙ם ִמ ֶ֔מּנּוּ ָﬠִ ֛רים ְגּדֹ ֥ת וּ ְב ֖צוּרֹת ַבּ ָשּׁ ָ ֑מִים ְו ַגם־ ְבֵּ ֥ני ֲﬠ ָנִ ֖ קים ָר ִ֥אינוּ ָ ֽשׁם: fortified up to the heavens, and we have even seen the sons of Anakim there."

כט ָ ֽו ֹא ַ ֖מר ֲא ֵל ֶ ֑כם ל ֹא ַ ֽ־ת ַﬠְר ֥צוּן ְול ֹא ִֽ־ת ְיר ֖אוּן ֵמ ֶ ֽהם: .And I said to you, "Do not be broken or afraid of them .29

ל ְי ָ ֤הוֹה ֱא ֽ ֵהי ֶכ ֙ם ַ ֽה ֵ ֣הֹל ִל ְפ ֵני ֶ֔כם ֖הוּא ִי ָלּ ֵ ֣חם ָל ֶ ֑כם The Lord, your God, Who goes before you He will fight for .30

ְ֠כּ ֠כֹל ֲא ֶ֨שׁר ָﬠ ָ ֧שׂה ִא ְתּ ֶ ֛כם ְבּ ִמ ְצַ ֖ר ִים ְל ֵ ֽﬠ ֵיני ֶ ֽכם: ,you, just as He did for you in Egypt before your very eyes

לא וּ ַב ִמּ ְד ָבּ ֙ר ֲא ֶ ֣שׁר ָר ִ֔אי ָת ֲא ֶ ֤שׁר ְנ ָ ֽשׂ ֲא ֙ ְי ָ ֣הוֹה ֱא ֶ֔הי ,and in the desert, where you have seen how the Lord .31 ַ ֽכּ ֲא ֶ ֥שׁר ִי ָשּׂא ִ ֖־אישׁ ֶאת־ ְבּ ֑נוֹ ְבּ ָכ ַל־ה ֶ֨דֶּר ֙ ֲא ֶ ֣שׁר your God, has carried you as a man carries his son, all the way ֲה ַל ְכ ֶ֔תּם ַﬠד־ ֽבֹּ ֲא ֶ ֖כם ַﬠ ַד־ה ָמּ ֥קוֹם ַהֶ ֽזּה: .that you have gone, until you have come to this place

לב וּ ַב ָדּ ָ ֖בר ַהֶ ֑זּה ֵ ֽא ְינ ֶכ ֙ם ַ ֽמ ֲא ִמ ִ֔ינם ַ ֽבּ ָ ֖יהוֹה ֱא ֽ ֵהי ֶ ֽכם: ,But regarding this matter, you do not believe the Lord .32 your God,

לג ַ ֽה ֵ֨הֹל ִל ְפ ֵני ֶ֜כם ַבּ ֶ֗דֶּר ָל ֥תוּר ָל ֶ ֛כם ָמ ֖קוֹם Who goes before you on the way, to search out a place for .33 ַ ֽל ֲח ֹֽנ ְת ֶ ֑כם ָבּ ֵ ֣אשׁ | ַ֗ל ְי ָלה ַלְר ֽ ֹא ְת ֶכ ֙ם ַבּ ֶ֨דֶּר ֙ ֲא ֶ ֣שׁר you, in which to encamp, in fire at night, to enable you to see ֵ ֽתּ ְלכוּ־ ָ֔בהּ וּ ֶ ֽב ָﬠָ ֖נ ן יוֹ ָ ֽמם: ".on the way you should go, and in a cloud by day

לד ַו ִיּ ְשׁ ַ ֥מע ְי ָ ֖הוֹה ֶאת ֣־קוֹל ִדּ ְבֵרי ֶ ֑כם ַו ִיּ ְק ֖צֹף ַו ִיּ ָשּׁ ַ ֥בע And the Lord heard the sound of your words, and He .34

ֵל ֽ ֹאמר: ,became angry and swore, saying

לה ִאם־ ִיְר ֶ ֥אה ִאי ֙שׁ ָ ֽבּ ֲא ָנ ִ ֣שׁים ָה ֵ֔א ֶלּה ַה ֥דּוֹר ָהָ ֖רע If any of these men of this evil generation sees the good' .35 ַהֶ ֑זּה ֵ֚את ָה ָ ֣אֶרץ ַהטּוֹ ָ֔בה ֲא ֶ ֣שׁר ִנ ְשׁ ַ֔בּ ְﬠ ִתּי ָל ֵ ֖תת ,land, which I swore to give your forefathers ַ ֽל ֲא ֽבֹ ֵתי ֶ ֽכם:

לו ֽז ָוּל ִ֞תי ָכּ ֵ ֤לב ֶבּן־ ְי ֻפ ֶנּ ֙ה ֣הוּא ִיְר ֶ֔א ָנּה ְו ֽל ֶוֹ־א ֵ ֧תּן except Caleb the son of Jephunneh he will see it, and I will .36 ֶאת ָ־ה ָ ֛אֶרץ ֲא ֶ ֥שׁר ָ ֽדַּר־ ָ ֖בּהּ ְוּל ָבָ ֑ניו ַ֕י ַﬠן ֲא ֶ ֥שׁר ִמ ֵ ֖לּא give him the land he trod upon, and to his children, because he ַ ֽא ֲחֵ ֥רי ְי ָ ֽהוֹה: ".has completely followed the Lord

לז ַגּם־ ִ ֙בּי ִה ְת ַאַ ֣נּ ף ְי ָ ֔הוֹה ִבּ ְג ַל ְל ֶ ֖כם ֵל ֑ ֹאמר ַגּ ַם־א ָ ֖תּה ,The Lord was also angry with me because of you, saying .37

ֽל ֹא ָ־ת ֥ב ֹא ָ ֽשׁם: .Neither will you go there"

לח ְי ֻ ֤הוֹשׁ ַ ִבּ ֙ן־נוּן ָ ֽהעֹ ֵ ֣מד ְל ָפ ֶ֔ני ֖הוּא ָי֣ב ֹא ָ ֑שׁ ָמּה But Joshua the son of Nun, who stands before you he will .38

ֹא ֣תוֹ ַח ֵ֔זּק ִכּ ֖י־הוּא ַי ְנ ִח ֶ ֥ל ָנּה ֶאת־ ִי ְשָׂר ֵ ֽאל: .go there; strengthen him, for he will cause Israel to inherit it

Fourth Portion Deuteronomy Chapter 1 לט ְו ַט ְפּ ֶכ ֩ם ֲא ֶ֨שׁר ֲא ַמְר ֶ֜תּם ָל ַ ֣בז ִֽי ְהֶ֗יה וּ ְב ֵני ֶ ֠כם ֲא ֶ֨שׁר ,Moreover] your little ones, whom you said will be prey] .39 ל ֹא־ָ ֽי ְ ד ֤ﬠוּ ַה ֙יּוֹם ֣טוֹב ָוָ ֔רע ֵ ֖ה ָמּה ָי ֣בֹאוּ ָ ֑שׁ ָמּה ְו ָל ֶ ֣הם and your children, who on that day did not know good and evil ֶא ְתּ ֶ֔נ ָנּה ְו ֵ ֖הם ִֽי ָיר ֽשׁ ָוּה: they will go there and I will give it to them, and they will possess it.

מ ְו ַא ֶ ֖תּם ְפּ ֣נוּ ָל ֶ ֑כם ְוּס ֥ﬠוּ ַה ִמּ ְד ָ ֖בָּרה ֶ ֥דֶּר ַי ֽם־סוּף: But as for you, turn yourselves around and journey into the .40 desert by way of the Red Sea."

מא ַו ַ ֽתּ ֲﬠ ֣נוּ | ַו ֽתּ ֹ ְאמ ֣רוּ ֵא ַ֗לי ָח ָ֘ט ֘אנוּ ַ ֽל ָיהוֹ ֒ה ֲאַ ֤נ ְחנוּ Then you answered and said to me, "We have sinned .41 ַ ֽנ ֲﬠ ֶל ֙ה ְו ִנ ְל ַ֔ח ְמנוּ ְכּ ֥כֹל ֲא ֶשׁר־ ִצָ ֖וּנוּ ְי ָ ֣הוֹה ֱא ֵ ֑הינוּ against the Lord; we will go up and fight, according to all that ַו ַתּ ְח ְגּ ֗רוּ ִ֚אישׁ ֶאת ְ־כּ ֵ ֣לי ִמ ְל ַח ְמ ֔תּוֹ ַו ָתּ ִ ֖הינוּ ַ ֽל ֲﬠ ֥ת the Lord, our God, has commanded us." So every one of you girded his weapons, and you prepared yourselves to go up to ָה ָ ֽהָרה: the mountain.

מב ַו֨יּ ֹ ֶאמר ְי ָ ֜הוֹה ֵא ַ֗לי ֱא ֤ ֹמר ָל ֶה ֙ם ֤ל ֹא ַ ֽת ֲﬠ ֙לוּ And the Lord said to me, "Say to them, 'Neither go up nor .42 ְו ֽל ֹא ִ־ת ָ ֣לּ ֲח ֔מוּ ִ֥כּי ֵא ֶ ֖ינ ִנּי ְבּ ִקְר ְבּ ֶ ֑כם ְול ֹ֙א ִתָּ ֣נּ ְ ג ֔פוּ ִל ְפֵ ֖ני fight, for I am not among you, lest you be struck down before ֽ ֹאְי ֵבי ֶ ֽכם: " '.your enemies

מג ָ ֽו ֲא ַד ֵ ֥בּר ֲא ֵלי ֶ ֖כם ְו ֣ל ֹא ְשׁ ַמ ְﬠ ֶ ֑תּם ַו ַתּ ְמ ֙רוּ ֶאת ִ ֣־פּי So I spoke to you, but you did not listen, and you rebelled .43 ְי ָ ֔הוֹה ַו ָתִּ ֖זדוּ ַו ַ ֽתּ ֲﬠ ֥לוּ ָה ָ ֽהָרה: against the command of the Lord, and you acted wickedly and went up to the mountain.

מד ַו ֵיּ ֵ֨צא ָ ֽה ֱא ֹמִ ֜רי ַהיּ ֵ֨שׁב ָבּ ָ ֤הר ַה ֙הוּא ִל ְקַר ְאת ֶ֔כם And the Amorites, dwelling in that mountain, came out .44 ַו ִיְּר ְדּ ֣פוּ ֶא ְת ֶ֔כם ַ ֽכּ ֲא ֶ ֥שׁר ַ ֽתּ ֲﬠ ֶ ֖שׂ ָינה ַה ְדּבִֹ ֑רים ַו ַיּ ְכּ ֥תוּ towards you and pursued you as bees do, and beat you down ֶא ְת ֶ ֛כם ְבּ ֵשׂ ִ ֖ﬠיר ַﬠ ָד־חְר ָ ֽמה: .in Seir, as far as Hormah

מה ַו ָתּ ֻ ֥שׁבוּ ַו ִתּ ְב ֖כּוּ ִל ְפֵ ֣ני ְי ָ ֑הוֹה ְו ֽל ֹא־ ָשׁ ַ ֤מע ְי ָהוֹ ֙ה So you returned and wept before the Lord, but the Lord .45

ְבּ ֣קֹ ְל ֶ֔כם ְו ֥ל ֹא ֶ ֽה ֱאִ ֖זין ֲא ֵלי ֶ ֽכם: .would not hear your voice, nor would He listen to you

מו ַו ֵ ֽתּ ְשׁ ֥בוּ ְב ָק ֵ ֖דשׁ ָי ִ ֣מים ַר ִ ֑בּים ַכָּיּ ִ ֖מים ֲא ֶ ֥שׁר And you dwelled in Kadesh many days, as the days that .46

ְי ַשׁ ְב ֶ ֽתּם: .you dwelled

Deuteronomy Chapter 2 א ַו ֵ֜נּ ֶפן ַו ִנּ ַ ֤סּע ַה ִמּ ְד ָ֨בָּר ֙ה ֶ ֣דֶּר ַי ֔ם־סוּף ַ ֽכּ ֲא ֶ ֛שׁר ִדּ ֶ ֥בּר Then we turned and journeyed into the desert by way of the .1 ְי ָ ֖הוֹה ֵא ָ ֑לי ַוָ ֥נּ ָסב ֶאת ַ־הר־ ֵשׂ ִ ֖ﬠיר ָי ִ֥מים ַר ִֽבּים: Red Sea, as the Lord had spoken to me, and we circled Mount Seir for many days.

Fifth Portion Deuteronomy Chapter 2

ב ַו ֥יּ ֹ ֶאמר ְי ָ ֖הוֹה ֵא ַ ֥לי ֵל ֽ ֹאמר: ,And the Lord spoke to me, saying .2

ג ַרב־ ָל ֶ֕כם ֖סֹב ֶאת ָ־ה ָ ֣הר ַהֶ ֑זּה ְפּ ֥נוּ ָל ֶ ֖כם ָצ ֽ ֹפ ָנה: You have circled this mountain long enough; turn .3 northward.

ד ְו ֶאת ָ־ה ָﬠם֘ ַ ֣צו ֵל ֹאמר֒ ַא ֶ ֣תּם ֽﬠֹ ְבִ ֗רים ִבּ ְג ֙בוּל ֲא ֵחי ֶ ֣כם And command the people saying, You are about to pass .4 through the boundary of your kinsmen, the children of Esau, ְבֵּ ֽני־ ֵﬠ ָ֔שׂו ַהֽיֹּ ְשׁ ִ ֖בים ְבּ ֵשׂ ִ ֑ﬠיר ְוִֽי ְיר ֣אוּ ִמ ֶ֔כּם ְו ִנ ְשׁ ַמְר ֶ ֖תּם ְמ ֽ ֹאד: who dwell in Seir, and they will be afraid of you. Be very careful.

ה ַא ִל־תּ ְתָ ֣גּרוּ ָ֔בם ִכּי ֽל ֹא ֶ־א ֵ ֤תּן ָל ֶכ ֙ם ֵ ֽמ ַאְר ָ֔צם ַ ֖ﬠד You shall not provoke them, for I will not give you any of .5 ִמ ְדַ ֣ר ַכּ ָ ֑ף־ר ֶגל ִֽכּי־ ְיֻר ָ ֣שּׁה ְל ֵﬠ ָ֔שׂו ָנ ַ ֖ת ִתּי ֶאת ַ ֥־הר their land not so much as a foot step, because I have given ֵשׂ ִֽﬠיר: .Mount Seir to Esau for an inheritance

ו ֣ ֹא ֶכל ִתּ ְשׁ ְבּ ֧רוּ ֵ ֽמ ִא ָ ֛תּם ַבּ ֶ ֖כּ ֶסף ַ ֽו ֲא ַכ ְל ֶ ֑תּם ְו ַג ַ֜ם־מִים ,You shall buy food from them with money, that you may eat .6 ִתּ ְכ ֧רוּ ֵ ֽמ ִא ָ ֛תּם ַבּ ֶ ֖כּ ֶסף ְוּשׁ ִתי ֶ ֽתם: and also water you shall buy from them with money, that you may drink.

ז ִכּ֩י ְי ָ ֨הוֹה ֱא ֶ֜הי ֵ ֽבַּר ְכ ֗ ְבּכֹ ֙ל ַ ֽמ ֲﬠ ֵ ֣שׂה ָי ֶ֔ד ָי ַ ֣דע For the Lord, your God, has blessed you in all the work of .7 your hand; He knows of your walking through this great desert; ֶל ְכ ְתּ ֔ ֶאת ַ־ה ִמּ ְד ָ ֥בּר ַה ָגּ֖דֹל ַהֶ ֑זּה ֶז֣ה | ַאְר ָבּ ִ ֣ﬠים ָשׁ ָ֗נה ְי ָ ֤הוֹה ֱא ֶ֨ה ֙י ִﬠ ָ֔מּ ֥ל ֹא ָח ַ ֖סְר ָתּ ָדּ ָ ֽבר: ,these forty years that the Lord your God has been with you you have lacked nothing.

ח ַוַ ֽנּ ֲﬠ ֞בֹר ֵמ ֵ ֧את ַא ֵ ֣חינוּ ְבֵ ֽני־ ֵﬠ ָ֗שׂו ַהֽיּ ְשׁ ִבי ֙ם ְבּ ֵשׂ ִ֔ﬠיר ,And we departed from our kinsmen, the children of Esau .8 who dwelt in Seir, by way of the plain from Elath and from ִמ ֶ֨דֶּר ֙ ָ ֽה ֲﬠָר ָ֔בה ֵ ֽמ ֵא ַ ֖ילת וּ ֵ ֽמ ֶﬠ ְצ ֣יֹן ָ ֑גּ ֶבר ַו ֵ֨נּ ֶ ֙פן ַוַ ֽנּ ֲﬠ ֔בֹר ֶ ֖דֶּר ִמ ְד ַ ֥בּר ָ ֽמוֹאב: Etzion Geber, and we turned and passed through the way of the desert of Moab.

ט ַו֨יּ ֹ ֶאמר ְי ָ ֜הוֹה ֵא ַ֗לי ַא ָ֨ל־תּ ַצ ֙ר ֶאת ָ֔־מוֹאב ְו ַא ִל־תּ ְתָ ֥גּר And the Lord said to me, Do not distress the Moabites, and .9 do not provoke them to war, for I will not give you any of their ָ ֖בּם ִמ ְל ָח ָ ֑מה ִ֠כּי ֽל ֹא ֶ־א ֵ֨תּן ְל ֤ ֵ ֽמ ַאְר ֙צוֹ ְיֻר ָ֔שּׁה ִ ֣כּי ִל ְב ֵני־ ֔לוֹט ָנ ַ ֥ת ִתּי ֶאת־ ָ ֖ﬠר ְיֻר ָ ֽשּׁה: land [as] an inheritance, because I have given Ar to the children of Lot [as] an inheritance.

י ָ ֽה ֵא ִ֥מים ְל ָפִ ֖נים ָי֣ ְשׁבוּ ָ ֑בהּ ַ ֣ﬠם ָגּ֥דוֹל ְוַ ֛רב ָוָ ֖רם The Emim dwelt there formerly, a great and numerous .10

ַ ֽכּ ֲﬠ ָנִֽ קים: ;people, and tall [in stature], as the Anakim

יא ְר ָפ ִ ֛אים ֵי ָ ֽח ְשׁ ֥בוּ ַא ֵ ֖ף־הם ַ ֽכּ ֲﬠ ָנִ ֑ קים ְו ַה ֣ ֹמּ ָא ִ֔בים They also are considered Rephaim, as the Anakim; but the .11

ִי ְקְר ֥אוּ ָל ֶ ֖הם ֵא ִֽמים: .Moabites call them Emim

יב וּ ְב ֵשׂ ִ֞ﬠיר ָ ֽי ְשׁ ֣בוּ ַ ֽה ִחֹרים֘ ְל ָפ ִני ֒ם וּ ְבֵ ֧ני ֵﬠ ָ ֣שׂו ִֽי ָיר ֗שׁוּם And the Horites formerly dwelt in Seir, and the children of .12 Esau were driving them out, and they exterminated them from ַו ַיּ ְשׁ ִמ ֙ידוּם ִמ ְפּ ֵנ ֶ֔יהם ַוֵ ֽיּ ְשׁ ֖בוּ ַתּ ְח ָ ֑תּם ַ ֽכּ ֲא ֶ ֧שׁר ָﬠ ָ ֣שׂה ִי ְשָׂר ֵ֗אל ְל ֶ֨אֶר ֙ץ ְיֻר ָשּׁ ֔תוֹ ֲא ֶשׁ ָר־נ ַ ֥תן ְי ָ ֖הוֹה ָל ֶ ֽהם: before them and dwelt in their stead, just as the Israelites did to the land of their inheritance, which the Lord gave them.

יג ַﬠ ָ֗תּה ֻ ֛קמוּ ְו ִﬠ ְב ֥רוּ ָל ֶ ֖כם ֶאת ַ ֣־נ ַחל ָ ֑ז ֶ רד ַוַ ֽנּ ֲﬠ ֖בֹר Now get up and cross the brook of Zered. So we crossed .13 ֶאת ַ ֥־נ ַחל ָ ֽז ֶ רד: .the brook of Zered יד ְו ַהָיּ ִ֞מים ֲא ֶשׁ ָר־ה ַ ֣ל ְכנוּ | ִמ ָקּ ֵ ֣דשׁ ַבְּר ֵ֗נ ַ ַ ֤ﬠד And the days when we went from Kadesh barnea, until we .14 ֲא ֶשׁר־ ָﬠ ַ֨בְר ֙נוּ ֶאת ַ ֣־נ ַחל ֶ֔זֶרד ְשׁ ִ֥לשׁים ְוּשׁ ֹמֶ ֖נה ָשָׁ ֑נה crossed the brook of Zered, numbered thirty eight years, until

ַﬠ ֨ ֹד־תּם ָכּ ַל־ה ֜דּוֹר ַא ְנ ֵ ֤שׁי ַה ִמּ ְל ָח ָמ ֙ה ִמֶ ֣קֶּרב ַה ַ ֽמּ ֲח ֶ֔נה all the generation of the men of war expired from the midst of the camp, just as the Lord swore to them. ַ ֽכּ ֲא ֶ ֛שׁר ִנ ְשׁ ַ ֥בּע ְי ָ ֖הוֹה ָל ֶ ֽהם:

טו ְוַ ֤גם ַיד־ ְי ָהוֹ ֙ה ָ ֣הְי ָתה ָ֔בּם ְל ֻה ָ ֖מּם ִמֶ ֣קֶּרב ַה ַ ֽמּ ֲחֶ ֑נה Also the hand of the Lord was upon them, to destroy them .15

ַ ֖ﬠד ֻתּ ָ ֽמּם: .from the midst of the camp, until they were consumed

טז ַו ְי ִ֨הי ַ ֽכ ֲא ֶשׁ ַ֜ר־תּמּוּ ָכּ ַל־א ְנ ֵ ֧שׁי ַה ִמּ ְל ָח ָ ֛מה ָל ֖מוּת So it was, when all the men of war finished dying from .16

ִמֶ ֥קֶּרב ָה ָ ֽﬠם: ,among the people

יז ַו ְי ַד ֵ ֥בּר ְי ָ ֖הוֹה ֵא ַ ֥לי ֵל ֽ ֹאמר: ,that the Lord spoke to me saying .17

יח ַא ָ֨תּה עֹ ֵ ֥בר ַה֛יּוֹם ֶאת ְ־גּ ֥בוּל ָ ֖מוֹאב ֶאת־ ָ ֽﬠר: .Today you are crossing the boundary of Moab at Ar .18

יט ְוָ ֽ קַר ְב ָ֗תּ ֚מוּל ְבֵּ ֣ני ַﬠ ֔מּוֹן ַא ְל־תּ ֻצֵ ֖רם ְו ַא ִל־תּ ְתָ ֣גּר ,And when you approach opposite the children of Ammon .19 neither distress them, nor provoke them, for I will not give you ָ ֑בּם ִ ֣כּי ֽל ֹא ֶ֠־א ֵ ֠תּן ֵמ ֶ֨אֶרץ ְבֵּ ֽני־ ַﬠ ֤מּוֹן ְל ֙ ְיֻר ָ֔שּׁה ִ֥כּי ִל ְב ֵני־ ֖לוֹט ְנ ַת ִ֥תּ ָיה ְיֻר ָ ֽשּׁה: ,of the land of the children of Ammon as an inheritance because I have given it to the children of Lot as an inheritance.

כ ֶ ֽאֶר ְץ־ר ָפ ִ֥אים ֵ ֽתּ ָח ֵ ֖שׁב ַא ִ ֑ף־הוא ְר ָפ ִ ֤אים ָ ֽי ְשׁבוּ־ ָב ֙הּ It too is considered a land of Rephaim; Rephaim dwelt .20

ְל ָפ ִ֔נים ְו ָ ֣ה ַﬠ ֹמּ ִ֔נים ִי ְקְר ֥אוּ ָל ֶ ֖הם ַז ְמֻז ִֽמּים: .therein formerly, and the Ammonites call them Zamzummim

כא ַ ֣ﬠם ָגּ֥דוֹל ְוַ ֛רב ָוָ ֖רם ַ ֽכּ ֲﬠ ָנִ ֑ קים ַו ַיּ ְשׁ ִמ ֵ ֤ידם ְי ָהוֹ ֙ה A great, numerous and tall people as the Anakim, but the .21 ִמ ְפּ ֵנ ֶ֔יהם ַוִֽיּ ָיר ֻ ֖שׁם ַוֵ ֽיּ ְשׁ ֥בוּ ַת ְח ָ ֽתּם: Lord exterminated them before them, and they drove them out and dwelt in their stead.

כב ַ ֽכּ ֲא ֶ ֤שׁר ָﬠ ָשׂ ֙ה ִל ְבֵ ֣ני ֵﬠ ָ֔שׂו ַהֽיּ ְשׁ ִ ֖בים ְבּ ֵשׂ ִ ֑ﬠיר ֲא ֶ֨שׁר As He did to the children of Esau, who dwell in Seir, when .22 ִה ְשׁ ִ ֤מיד ֶאת ַ ֽ־ה ִחֹר֙י ִמ ְפּ ֵנ ֶ֔יהם ַוִֽיּ ָיר ֻשׁ ֙ם ַוֵ ֽיּ ְשׁ ֣בוּ ַת ְח ָ֔תּם He exterminated the Horites from before them; and they drove ַ ֖ﬠד ַה֥יּוֹם ַהֶ ֽזּה: .them out and dwelt in their stead even to this day

כג ְו ָ ֽה ַﬠִ ֛וּים ַהֽיּ ְשׁ ִ֥בים ַ ֽבּ ֲח ֵצִ ֖רים ַﬠד־ ַﬠָ ֑זּה ַכּ ְפ ֹתִּרי ֙ם But the Avim, who dwell in open cities, up till Gaza -- the .23 ַהֽיֹּ ְצ ִ ֣אים ִמ ַכּ ְפ ֔ ֹתּר ִה ְשׁ ִמ ֻ ֖ידם ַוֵ ֽיּ ְשׁ ֥בוּ ַת ְח ָ ֽתּם: ,Caphtorites, who came forth of Caphtor, exterminated them and dwelt in their stead.

כד ֣קוּמוּ ְסּ ֗עוּ ְו ִﬠ ְב ֘רוּ ֶאת ַ ֣־נ ַחל ַאְר ֹנן֒ ְר ֵ ֣אה ָנ ַ ֣ת ִתּי Get up, journey, and cross the river Arnon. Behold, I have .24 ְ֠בָ ֽי ְ ד ֠ ֶאת ִ־ס ֨יחֹן ֶ ֽמ ֶל ֶ־ח ְשׁ ֧בּוֹן ָ ֽה ֱא ֹמִ ֛רי ְו ֶאת ַ־אְר ֖צוֹ ,delivered into your hand Sihon the Amorite, king of Heshbon ָה ֵ ֣חל ָ ֑רשׁ ְו ִה ְתָ ֥גּר ֖בּוֹ ִמ ְל ָח ָ ֽמה: .and his land: Begin to possess it, and provoke him to war

כה ַה֣יּוֹם ַה ֶ֗זּה ָא ֵח ֙ל ֵ ֤תּת ַפּ ְח ְדּ ֙ ְו ִיְר ָ ֣א ְת ֔ ַﬠ ְל־פּ ֵ֙ני Today I will begin to put the dread of you and the fear of .25 you upon the nations that are under the entire heaven, who will ָ ֽה ַﬠ ִ֔מּים ַ ֖תּ ַחת ָכּ ַל־ה ָשּׁ ָ ֑מִים ֲא ֶ ֤שׁר ִי ְשׁ ְמ ֙עוּן ִשׁ ְמ ֲﬠ ֔ ְוָ ֽר ְג ֥זוּ ְו ָח ֖לוּ ִמ ָפֶּ ֽני: hear reports of you and shake and be in trepidation because of you. כו ָ ֽו ֶא ְשׁ ַ ֤לח ַמ ְל ָא ִכי ֙ם ִמ ִמּ ְד ַ ֣בּר ְק ֵד ֔מוֹת ֶא ִל־ס ֖יחוֹן So I sent messengers from the desert of Kedemoth to .26 ֶ ֣מ ֶל ֶח ְשׁ ֑בּוֹן ִדּ ְבֵ ֥רי ָשׁ ֖לוֹם ֵל ֽ ֹאמר: ,Sihon, king of Heshbon, with words of peace, saying

כז ֶא ְﬠ ְבָּ ֣רה ְב ַאְר ֶ֔צ ַבֶּ ֥דֶּר ַבֶּ ֖דֶּר ֵא ֵ ֑ל ֥ל ֹא ָא ֖סוּר Allow me to pass through your land: I will go along by the" .27

ָי ִ֥מין ְוּשׂ ֽמ ֹאול: ".highway, I will turn neither to the right nor to the left

כח ֣ ֹא ֶכל ַבּ ֶ ֤כּ ֶסף ַתּ ְשׁ ִבֵּ ֨ר ִ֙ני ְו ָא ַ֔כ ְל ִתּי וּ ַ ֛מִים ַבּ ֶ ֥כּ ֶסף You shall sell me food for money, that I may eat; and give .28 ִתּ ֶתּן־ ִ ֖לי ְו ָשׁ ִ ֑תי ִתי ַ ֖רק ֶא ְﬠ ְבָּ ֥רה ְבַר ְגָ ֽלי: to me water for money, that I may drink; I will only pass through by my feet.

כט ַ ֽכּ ֲא ֶ֨שׁר ָ ֽﬠשׂוּ־ ִ֜לי ְבֵּ ֣ני ֵﬠ ָ֗שׂו ַהֽיּ ְשׁ ִבי ֙ם ְבּ ֵשׂ ִ֔ﬠיר Just as the children of Esau who dwell in Seir, and the .29 ְו ַה ֣מּ ָוֹא ִ֔בים ַהֽיּ ְשׁ ִ ֖בים ְבּ ָ ֑ﬠר ַ ֤ﬠד ֲא ֶ ֽשׁ ֶ ֽר־א ֱﬠבֹ ֙ר Moabites who dwell in Ar, did for me; until I cross the Jordan to ֶאת ַ־הַיְּר ֵ֔דּן ֶא ָל־ה ָ֕אֶרץ ֲא ֶשׁר־ ְי ָ ֥הוֹה ֱא ֵ ֖הינוּ ֹנ ֵ ֥תן ָ ֽלנוּ: ".the land which the Lord our God is giving us

ל ְו ֣ל ֹא ָא ָ֗בה ִס ֙יחֹן ֶ ֣מ ֶל ֶח ְשׁ ֔בּוֹן ַ ֽה ֲﬠ ִבֵ ֖רנוּ ֑בּוֹ But Sihon, king of Heshbon, did not wish to let us pass by .30 him, for the Lord your God caused his spirit to be hardened ִֽכּ ִי־ה ְק ָשׁ ֩ה ְי ָ ֨הוֹה ֱא ֶ֜הי ֶאת ֗־רוּחוֹ ְו ִא ֵמּ ֙ץ ֶאת־ ְל ָב ֔בוֹ ְל ַ ֛מ ַﬠן ִתּ ֥תּוֹ ְבָ ֽי ְ ד ֖ ַכּ֥יּוֹם ַהֶ ֽזּה: and his heart to be obstinate, in order that He would give him into your hand, as this day.

Sixth Portion Deuteronomy Chapter 2 לא ַו ֤יּ ֹ ֶאמר ְי ָהוֹ ֙ה ֵא ַ֔לי ְר ֵ֗אה ַ ֽה ִח ֨ ִ ֙תי ֵ ֣תּת ְל ָפ ֶ֔ני And the Lord said to me, "Behold I have begun to deliver .31 ֶאת ִ־ס ֖יחֹן ְו ֶאת ַ־אְר ֑צוֹ ָה ֵ ֣חל ָ ֔רשׁ ָלֶ ֖ר ֶשׁת ֶאת ַ־אְר ֽצוֹ: Sihon and his land before you; begin to drive him out, that you may inherit his land."

לב ַו ֵיּ ֵצ ֩א ִס ֨יחֹן ִל ְקָר ֵ֜אתנוּ ֧הוּא ְו ָכל־ ַﬠ ֛מּוֹ ַל ִמּ ְל ָח ָ ֖מה ,Then Sihon went forth towards us, he and all his people .32

ָ ֽי ְה ָצה: .to war at Jahzah

לג ַו ִיּ ְתֵּ ֛נהוּ ְי ָ ֥הוֹה ֱא ֵ ֖הינוּ ְל ָפֵ ֑נינוּ ַוַ ֥נּ ֹא ֛תוֹ ְו ֶאת־ ָבָּ ֖ניו And the Lord our God delivered him to us; and we smote .33

(כתיב ואת־בנו) ְו ֶאת ָ־כּל־ ַﬠ ֽמּוֹ: .him and his sons and all his people

לד ַו ִנּ ְל ֤כֹּד ֶאת ָ־כּל־ ָﬠָר ֙יו ָבּ ֵ ֣ﬠת ַה ִ֔הוא ַוַ ֽנּ ֲחֵר ֙ם And we conquered all his cities at that time, and utterly .34 ֶאת ָ־כּל־ ִ ֣ﬠיר ְמ ִ֔תם ְו ַה ָנּ ִ ֖שׁים ְו ַה ָ ֑טּף ֥ל ֹא ִה ְשׁ ַ ֖אְרנוּ ;destroyed every city, the men, women, and the young children ָשִֽׂריד: .we left over no survivor

לה ַ ֥רק ַה ְבּ ֵה ָ ֖מה ָבַּ ֣ז ְ זנוּ ָ ֑לנוּ ְוּשׁ ַ ֥לל ֶ ֽה ָﬠִ ֖רים ֲא ֶ ֥שׁר Only the cattle we took for a prey unto ourselves with the .35

ָל ָ ֽכ ְדנוּ: .spoil of the cities which we had taken

לו ֵ ֽמ ֲﬠרֹ ֵ֡ﬠר ֲא ֶשׁ ֩ר ַﬠל־ ְשׂ ַפת ַ֨־נ ַחל ַאְר֜נֹן ְו ָה ִ֨ﬠיר ֲא ֶ ֤שׁר ,From Aroer which is on the edge of the valley of Arnon .36 ַבּ ַ֨נּ ַח ֙ל ְו ַﬠ ַד־ה ִגּ ְל ָ֔ﬠד ֤ל ֹא ָ ֽהְי ָת ֙ה ִקְר ָ֔יה ֲא ֶ ֥שׁר ָ ֽשׂ ְג ָ ֖בה and from the city that is in the valley,even unto Gilead, there ִמ ֶ ֑מּנּוּ ֶאת ַ־ה ֕כֹּל ָנ ַ ֛תן ְי ָ ֥הוֹה ֱא ֵ ֖הינוּ ְל ָפֵ ֽנינוּ: was not a city too high for us: the Lord our God delivered up all before us.

לז ַ ֛רק ֶא ֶ ֥ל־אֶרץ ְבֵּ ֽני־ ַﬠ ֖מּוֹן ֣ל ֹא ָקָ ֑ר ְב ָתּ ָכּל־ ַ֞יד ַ ֤נ ַחל Only to the land of the children of Ammon you came not .37 ַיבֹּ ֙ק ְו ָﬠֵ ֣רי ָה ָ֔הר ְו ֥כֹל ֲא ֶשׁר־ ִצָ ֖וּה ְי ָ ֥הוֹה ֱא ֵ ֽהינוּ: near; all the side of the river Yabbok and the cities of the hill country, and wherever the Lord our God commanded us.

Deuteronomy Chapter 3 א ַוֵ ֣נּ ֶפן ַו ַ֔נּ ַﬠל ֶ ֖דֶּר ַה ָבּ ָ ֑שׁן ַו ֵיּ ֵ ֣צא ֩עוֹג ֶ ֽמ ֶל ַ־ה ָבּ ָ֨שׁן ,Then we turned and went up the way of Bashan, and Og .1 ִל ְקָר ֵ֜אתנוּ ֧הוּא ְו ָכל־ ַﬠ ֛מּוֹ ַל ִמּ ְל ָח ָ ֖מה ֶא ְדֶ ֽר ִﬠי: the king of Bashan, came forth toward us, he and all his people, to war at Edrei

ב ַו֨יּ ֹ ֶאמר ְי ָ ֤הוֹה ֵא ַ ֙לי ַא ִל־תּ ָ ֣ירא ֹא ֔תוֹ ִ ֣כּי ְבָ ֽי ְ ד ֞ ָנ ַ ֧ת ִתּי And the Lord said to me, "Do not fear him, for I have given .2 him, all his people, and his land into your hand, and you shall ֹא ֛תוֹ ְו ֶאת ָ־כּל־ ַﬠ ֖מּוֹ ְו ֶאת ַ־אְר ֑צוֹ ְו ָﬠ ִ ֣שׂי ָת ֔לּוֹ ַ ֽכּ ֲא ֶ ֣שׁר ָﬠ ִ֗שׂי ָת ְל ִס ֙יחֹן ֶ ֣מ ֶל ָ ֽה ֱא ֹמִ ֔רי ֲא ֶ ֥שׁר ֵ ֖יוֹשׁב ְבּ ֶח ְשׁ ֽבּוֹן: do to him as you did to Sihon, king of the Amorites, who dwelt in Heshbon."

ג ַו ִיּ ֵתּ֩ן ְי ָ ֨הוֹה ֱא ֵ֜הינוּ ְבָּי ֵ֗דנוּ ַ ֛גּם ֶאת־ ֥ﬠוֹג ֶ ֽמ ֶל ַ־ה ָבּ ָ ֖שׁן So the Lord, our God, delivered into our hands also Og, the .3 ְו ֶאת ָ־כּל־ ַﬠ ֑מּוֹ ַו ַנּ ֵ֕כּהוּ ַﬠד־ ִבּ ְל ִ֥תּי ִה ְשׁ ִֽאיר־ ֖לוֹ ָשִֽׂריד: king of Bashan and all his people, and we smote him until no remnant remained of him.

ד ַו ִנּ ְל ֤כֹּד ֶאת ָ־כּל־ ָﬠָר ֙יו ָבּ ֵ ֣ﬠת ַה ִ֔הוא ֤ל ֹא ָ ֽהְי ָת ֙ה ִקְר ָ֔יה And we conquered all his cities at that time; there was not a .4 ֲא ֶ ֥שׁר ֽל ֹא־ ָלַ ֖ ק ְחנוּ ֵ ֽמ ִא ָ ֑תּם ִשׁ ִ֥שּׁים ִﬠ ֙יר ָכּ ֶ ֣ל־ח ֶבל ַאְר֔גֹּב town that we did not take from them sixty cities, all the territory ַמ ְמ ֶ ֥ל ֶכת ֖ﬠוֹג ַבּ ָבּ ָ ֽשׁן: .of Argob the kingdom of Og in Bashan

ה ָכּ ֵ֜ל־א ֶלּה ָﬠִ ֧רים ְבּ ֻצ ֛רֹת חוֹ ָ ֥מה ְגבֹ ָ ֖הה ְדּ ָל ַ ֣תִים ,All these cities were fortified with high walls, double doors .5

וּ ְבִ ֑ר ַי ְל ַ ֛בד ֵ ֽמ ָﬠֵ ֥רי ַה ְפָּרִ ֖זי ַהְר ֵ ֥בּה ְמ ֽ ֹאד: .and bolts, in addition to a great many unwalled cities

ו ַוַ ֽנּ ֲחֵ ֣רם ָ֔אוֹתם ַ ֽכּ ֲא ֶ ֣שׁר ָﬠ ִ֔שׂינוּ ְל ִס ֖יחֹן ֶ ֣מ ֶל ֶח ְשׁ ֑בּוֹן And we utterly destroyed them as we did to Sihon, king of .6 ַ ֽה ֲחֵר ֙ם ָכּל־ ִ ֣ﬠיר ְמ ִ֔תם ַה ָנּ ִ ֖שׁים ְו ַה ָ ֽטּף: ,Heshbon, utterly destroying every city, the men, the women and the young children.

ז ְו ָכ ַל־ה ְבּ ֵה ָ ֛מה ְוּשׁ ַ ֥לל ֶ ֽה ָﬠִ ֖רים ַבּ ֥זּוֹנוּ ָ ֽלנוּ: But all the beasts and the spoils of the cities, we took as .7 spoil for ourselves.

ח ַו ִנּ ַ֞קּח ָבּ ֵ ֤ﬠת ַה ִה ֙וא ֶאת ָ־ה ָ֔אֶרץ ִמַ֗יּד ְשׁ ֵ֙ני ַמ ְל ֵ ֣כי At that time we took the land out of the hands of the two .8 ָ ֽה ֱא ֹמִ ֔רי ֲא ֶ ֖שׁר ְבּ ֵ ֣ﬠ ֶבר ַהַיְּר ֵ ֑דּן ִמַ ֥נּ ַחל ַאְר ֹ֖נן ַﬠ ַ ֥ד־הר kings of the Amorites who were on that side of the Jordan, from ֶחְר ֽמוֹן: .the brook of Arnon to Mount Hermon

ט ִֽצידִֹ ֛נים ִי ְקְר ֥אוּ ְל ֶחְר ֖מוֹן ִשְׂר ֑יֹן ְו ָ ֣ה ֱא ֹמִ ֔רי ִי ְקְראוּ־ ֖לוֹ The Sidonians call Hermon Sirion; and the Amorites call it .9

י ֣כֹּל | ָﬠֵ ֣רי ַה ִמּי ֗שֹׁר ְו ָכ ַל־ה ִגּ ְל ָﬠ ֙ד ְו ָכ ַל־ה ָבּ ָ֔שׁן All the cities of the plain, and all Gilead, and all Bashan, to .10

ַﬠ ַ ֽד־ס ְל ָ ֖כה ְו ֶא ְדֶ ֑ר ִﬠי ָﬠֵ ֛רי ַמ ְמ ֶ ֥ל ֶכת ֖ﬠוֹג ַבּ ָבּ ָ ֽשׁן: .Salchah and Edrei, cities of the kingdom of Og in Bashan יא ִ ֣כּי ַרק־ ֞עוֹג ֶ ֣מ ֶל ַה ָבּ ָ֗שׁן ִנ ְשׁ ַא ֘ר ִמֶיּ֣ ֶתר ָ ֽהְר ָפ ִאי ֒ם For only Og, king of Bashan, was left from the remnant of .11 ִהֵ ֤נּה ַﬠְר ֙שׂוֹ ֶ ֣ﬠֶרשׂ ַבְּר ֶ֔זל ֲה ֣ה ִ֔הוא ְבַּר ַ ֖בּת ְבֵּ ֣ני ַﬠ ֑מּוֹן the Rephaim. His bedstead was a bedstead of iron; is it not in ֵ ֧תּ ַשׁע ַא ֣מּוֹת ָאְר ָ֗כּהּ ְו ַאְר ַ ֥בּע ַא ֛מּוֹת ָר ְח ָ ֖בּהּ ,Rabbah of the children of Ammon? Nine cubits was its length and four cubits its breadth, according to the cubit of a man. ְבּ ַא ַמּת ִֽ־אישׁ:

יב ְו ֶאת ָ־ה ָ ֧אֶרץ ַה ֛זּ ֹאת ָיַ ֖ר ְשׁנוּ ָבּ ֵ ֣ﬠת ַה ִ ֑הוא ֵ ֽמ ֲﬠרֹ ֵ֞ﬠר And this land, which we possessed at that time; from .12 ֲא ֶשׁר־ ַﬠ ַ ֣ל־נ ַחל ַאְר֗נֹן ַ ֽו ֲח ִ ֤צי ַה ַר־ה ִגּ ְל ָﬠ ֙ד ְו ָﬠָ ֔ריו ָנ ַ֕ת ִתּי Aro'er, which is by the brook of Arnon, and half of Mount Gilead ָלֽראוּ ֵבִ ֖ני ְו ַל ָגִּֽדי: .and its cities, I gave to the Reubenites and to the Gadites

יג ְוֶ֨י ֶתר ַה ִגּ ְל ָ ֤ﬠד ְו ָכ ַל־ה ָבּ ָ ֙שׁן ַמ ְמ ֶ ֣ל ֶכת ֔עוֹג ָנ ַ֕ת ִתּי ,And the rest of Gilead, and all Bashan, the kingdom of Og .13 ַ ֽל ֲח ִ ֖צי ֵ ֣שׁ ֶבט ַ ֽה ְמ ַנ ֶ ֑שּׁה ֣כֹּל ֶ ֤ח ֶבל ָ ֽה ַאְר ֹגּ ֙ב ְל ָכ ַל־ה ָבּ ָ֔שׁן ,I gave to the half tribe of Manasseh; all the territory of Argob ַה ֥הוּא ִי ָקֵּ ֖רא ֶ ֥אֶרץ ְר ָפ ִֽאים: .all of Bashan; that is called the land of Rephaim

יד ָי ִ ֣איר ֶבּ ְן־מ ַנ ֶ֗שּׁה ָל ַק ֙ח ֶאת ָ־כּ ֶ ֣ל־ח ֶבל ַאְר֔גֹּב Jair the son of Manasseh took all the territory of Argob to .14 the boundaries of the Geshurites and the Maachathites, and he ַﬠ ְד־גּ ֥בוּל ַה ְגּ ִ ֖שׁוּרי ְו ַה ַ ֽמּ ֲﬠ ָכ ִ ֑תי ַו ִיּ ְקָר ֩א ֹא ָ֨תם ַﬠל־ ְשׁ ֤מוֹ ֶאת ַ־ה ָבּ ָ ֙שׁן ַחֹ֣וּת ָי ִ֔איר ַ ֖ﬠד ַה֥יּוֹם ַהֶ ֽזּה: ,called them, even Bashan, after his own name, villages of Jair to this day.

Seventh Portion Deuteronomy Chapter 3

טו ְוּל ָמ ִ ֖כיר ָנ ַ ֥ת ִתּי ֶאת ַ־ה ִגּ ְל ָ ֽﬠד: .And to Machir I gave Gilead .15

טז ְו ָלֽראוּ ֵב ִ֨ני ְו ַל ָגִּ֜די ָנ ַ ֤ת ִתּי ִמ ַן־ה ִגּ ְל ָﬠ ֙ד ְו ַﬠ ַ ֣ד־נ ַחל ַאְר֔נֹן And to the Reubenites and to the Gadites I gave from .16 Gilead to the brook of Arnon, the midst of the brook and the ֥תּוֹ ַהַ ֖נּ ַחל ְוּג ֻ ֑בל ְו ַﬠ ֙ד ַי ֣בֹּק ַה ַ֔נּ ַחל ְגּ ֖בוּל ְבֵּ ֥ני ַﬠ ֽמּוֹן: border, until the brook of Jabbok, which is the boundary of the children of Ammon,

יז ְו ָ ֽה ֲﬠָר ָ ֖בה ְו ַהַיְּר ֵ ֣דּן ְוּג ֻ ֑בל ִמ ִכּ ֶ֗נֶּרת ְו ַ֨ﬠד ָ ֤ים ָ ֽה ֲﬠָר ָב ֙ה the plain, the Jordan and the border thereof, from .17 ָי֣ם ַה ֶ֔מּ ַלח ַ ֛תּ ַחת ַא ְשׁ ֥דֹּת ַה ִפּ ְסָ ֖גּה ִמְזָ ֽר ָחה: Kinnereth to the sea of the plain the Sea of Salt, under the waterfalls of Pisgah, eastward.

יח ָ ֽו ֲא ַ ֣צו ֶא ְת ֶ֔כם ָבּ ֵ ֥ﬠת ַה ִ ֖הוא ֵל ֑ ֹאמר ְי ָ ֣הוֹה ֱא ֽ ֵהי ֶ֗כם And I commanded you at that time saying, "The Lord, your .18 God, has given you this land to possess it; pass over, armed, ָנ ַ֨תן ָל ֶ֜כם ֶאת ָ־ה ָ ֤אֶרץ ַהזּ ֹ ֙את ְלִר ְשׁ ָ֔תּהּ ֲח ִ ֣לוּצים ַ ֽתּ ַﬠ ְב ֗רוּ ִל ְפֵ ֛ני ֲא ֵחי ֶ ֥כם ְבֵּ ֽני־ ִי ְשָׂר ֵ ֖אל ָכּל־ ְבּ ֵנ ָ ֽי־ח ִיל: before your brothers, the children of Israel, all who are warriors.

יט ַרק ְנ ֵשׁי ֶ ֣כם ְו ַט ְפּ ֶכם֘ וּ ִמ ְק ֵנ ֶכ ֒ם ָי ַ֕ד ְﬠ ִתּי ִֽכּ ִי־מ ְקֶ ֥נה But your wives, your young children, and your cattle for I .19 ַ ֖רב ָל ֶ ֑כם ֵ ֽי ְשׁ ֙בוּ ְבּ ָ ֣ﬠֵרי ֶ֔כם ֲא ֶ ֥שׁר ָנ ַ ֖ת ִתּי ָל ֶ ֽכם: know that you have much cattle shall dwell in your cities which I have given you,

כ ַﬠד ֲא ֶשׁר־ ָי ִ֨נ ַי ְי ָ ֥הוֹה | ַ ֽל ֲא ֵחי ֶכם֘ ָכּ ֶכ ֒ם ְוָ ֽי ְ ר ֣שׁוּ until the Lord has given rest to your brothers, just as [He .20 ַג ֵ֔ם־הם ֶאת ָ־ה ָ֕אֶרץ ֲא ֶ֨שׁר ְי ָ ֧הוֹה ֱא ֽ ֵהי ֶ ֛כם ֹנ ֵ ֥תן ָל ֶ ֖הם did] for you, and until they also possess the land which the ְבּ ֵ ֣ﬠ ֶבר ַהַיְּר ֵ ֑דּן ְו ַשׁ ְב ֶ֗תּם ִ֚אישׁ ִֽל ֻיר ָשּׁ ֔תוֹ ֲא ֶ ֥שׁר ָנ ַ ֖ת ִתּי ,Lord, your God, is giving them on the other side of the Jordan ָל ֶ ֽכם: then every man shall return to his possession, which I have given to you."

כא ְו ֶאת־ ְי ֣הוֹשׁ ַוּ ִצֵ֔וּי ִתי ָבּ ֵ ֥ﬠת ַה ִ ֖הוא ֵל ֑ ֹאמר ֵﬠ ֶ ֣יני And I commanded Joshua at that time, saying, "Your eyes .21 ָ ֽהרֹ ֗ ֹאת ֵא ֩ת ָכּ ֲל־א ֶ֨שׁר ָﬠ ָ֜שׂה ְי ָ ֤הוֹה ֱא ֽ ֵהי ֶכ ֙ם ִל ְשׁ ֵ֙ני have seen all that the Lord, your God, has done to these two

ַה ְמּ ָל ִ ֣כים ָה ֵ֔א ֶלּה ֵ ֽכּן־ַ ֽי ֲﬠ ֶ ֤שׂה ְי ָהוֹ ֙ה ְל ָכ ַל־ה ַמּ ְמ ָל ֔כוֹת kings. So will the Lord do to all the kingdoms through which you will pass. ֲא ֶ ֥שׁר ַא ָ ֖תּה עֹ ֵ ֥בר ָ ֽשׁ ָמּה:

כב ֖ל ֹא ִֽתּ ָיר ֑אוּם ִ֚כּי ְי ָ ֣הוֹה ֱא ֽ ֵהי ֶ֔כם ֖הוּא ַה ִנּ ְל ָ ֥חם Do not fear them, for it is the Lord, your God, Who is .22

ב ִשׁ ְמ ֚עוּ ָשׁ ַ֙מִי ֙ם ְו ַ ֽה ֲאִ ֣ז ִיני ֶ֔אֶרץ ִ֥כּי ְי ָ ֖הוֹה ִדּ ֵ ֑בּר ָבּ ִני ֙ם Hear, O heavens, and give ear, O earth, for the Lord has .2 ִגַּ ֣דּ ְל ִתּי ְורוֹ ַ֔מ ְמ ִתּי ְו ֵ ֖הם ָ ֥פּ ְשׁעוּ ִֽבי: spoken; Children I have raised and exalted, yet they have rebelled against Me.

ג ָי ַ ֥דע ֙שׁוֹר קֹ ֵ֔נהוּ ַ ֽו ֲח ֖מוֹר ֵא ֣בוּס ְבּ ָﬠ ָ ֑ליו ִי ְשָׂר ֵא ֙ל ֣ל ֹא ;An ox knows his owner and a donkey his master's crib .3

ָי ַ֔דע ַﬠ ִ ֖מּי ֥ל ֹא ִה ְת ָ ֽבּוֹנ ן: .Israel does not know, my people does not consider

ד ֣הוֹי | ֣גּוֹי ֵ֗חֹטא ַﬠם ֶ ֣כּ ֶבד ָﬠוֹ ֔ן ֶז֣ ַ רע ְמֵר ִ֔ﬠים ָבִּ ֖נים ,Woe to a sinful nation, a people heavy with iniquity .4 ַמ ְשׁ ִחי ִ ֑תים ָﬠ ְז ֣בוּ ֶאת־ ְי ָ ֗הוֹה ִֽנ ֲא ֛צוּ ֶאת ְ־ק ֥דוֹשׁ ִי ְשָׂר ֵ ֖אל evildoing seed, corrupt children. They forsook the Lord; they ָנ ֥זֹרוּ ָא ֽחוֹר: .provoked the Holy One of Israel; they drew backwards

ה ַ ֣ﬠל ֶ ֥מה ֻת ֛כּוּ ֖ﬠוֹד ִ ֣תּוֹסיפוּ ָסָ ֑רה ָכּ ֣ל־ר ֹאשׁ ָ ֽל ֳח ִ֔לי Why are you beaten when you still continue to rebel? Every .5

ְו ָכל־ ֵל ָ ֖בב ַדָּ ֽוּי: .head is [afflicted] with illness and every heart with malaise

ו ִמ ַכּ ֶ֚ף־ר ֶגל ְו ַﬠד־ר ֹא ֙שׁ ֵאין־ ֣בּוֹ ְמ ֔ ֹתם ֶ ֥פּ ַצע ְו ַח ָ ֖בּוּרה From the sole of the foot until the head there is no .6 soundness-wounds and contusions and lacerated sores; they וּ ַמ ָ ֣כּה ְטִרָיּ֑ה ל ֹא־֙זֹ ֙רוּ ְו ֣ל ֹא ֻח ָ֔בּשׁוּ ְו ֥ל ֹא ֻר ְכּ ָ ֖כה ַבּ ָ ֽשּׁ ֶמן: have not sprinkled, neither have they been bandaged, nor was it softened with oil.

ז ַאְר ְצ ֶ ֣כם ְשׁ ָמ ָ֔מה ָ ֽﬠֵרי ֶ ֖כם ְשֻׂר ֣פוֹת ֵ ֑אשׁ ַא ְד ַמ ְת ֶ֗כם Your land is desolate; your cities burnt with fire. Your land-in .7 ְל ֶנ ְגְדּ ֶכ ֙ם ָזִרי ֙ם ֽ ֹא ְכ ִ ֣לים ֹא ָ֔תהּ ְוּשׁ ָמ ָ ֖מה ְכּ ַמ ְה ֵפּ ַ ֥כת your presence, strangers devour it; and it is desolate as that ָזִֽרים: .turned over to strangers

ח ְו ֽנ ְוֹתָ ֥רה ַבת־ ִצ ֖יּוֹן ְכּ ֻס ָ ֣כּה ְב ָ ֑כֶרם ִכּ ְמ ָ ֥לוּנה ְב ִמ ְק ָ ֖שׁה And the daughter of Zion shall be left like a hut in a .8

ְכּ ִ֥ﬠיר ְנ ָ ֽצוּרה: .vineyard, like a lodge in a cucumber field, like a besieged city

ט ֵ ֙לוּלי ְי ָ ֣הוֹה ְצ ָב ֔אוֹת ִ֥הוֹתיר ָ ֛לנוּ ָשִׂ ֖ריד ִכּ ְמ ָ ֑ﬠט Had not the Lord of Hosts left us a remnant, we would" .9

ִכּ ְס ֣דֹם ָהִ֔יינוּ ַ ֽל ֲﬠ ֹמָ ֖רה ָדּ ִֽמינוּ: ".soon be like Sodom; we would resemble Gomorrah

י ִשׁ ְמ ֥ﬠוּ ְד ַבר־ ְי ָ ֖הוֹה ְק ִצ ֵ ֣יני ְס ֑דֹם ַ ֽה ֲאִ ֛זינוּ ַ ֥תּוֹרת Hear the word of the Lord, O rulers of Sodom; give ear to .10

ֱא ֵ ֖הינוּ ַ ֥ﬠם ֲﬠ ֹמָ ֽרה: !the law of our God, O people of Gomorrah

יא ָל ָמּה־ ִ֚לּי ֽרֹב־ ִז ְב ֵחי ֶכ ֙ם י ֹ ַ ֣אמר ְי ָ ֔הוֹה ָשׂ ַ ֛ב ְﬠ ִתּי עֹ ֥לוֹת Of what use are your many sacrifices to Me? says the .11 Lord. I am sated with the burnt-offerings of rams and the fat of ֵא ִ ֖ילים ְו ֵ ֣ח ֶלב ְמִר ִ ֑יאים ְו ַ֨דם ָפִּ ֧רים וּ ְכ ָב ִ ֛שׂים ְו ַﬠ ִ ֖תּוּדים ֥ל ֹא ָח ָ ֽפ ְצ ִתּי: fattened cattle; and the blood of bulls and sheep and hegoats I do not want.

יב ִ ֣כּי ָת ֔בֹאוּ ֵלָר ֖אוֹת ָפָּ ֑ני ִמי־ ִבֵ ֥קּשׁ ֛ז ֹאת ִמֶיּ ְד ֶ ֖כם When you come to appear before Me, who requested this .12

ְר ֥ ֹמס ֲח ֵצָ ֽרי: ?of you, to trample My courts

יג ֣ל ֹא ִ֗תוֹסיפוּ ָה ִב ֙יא ִמ ְנ ַחת־ ָ֔שְׁוא ְק ֧טֶֹרת ֽתּ ֵוֹﬠ ָ ֛בה You shall no longer bring vain meal-offerings, it is smoke .13 ִ ֖היא ִ ֑לי ֚חֹ ֶדשׁ ְו ַשׁ ָבּ ֙ת ְק ֣ר ֹא ִמ ְקָ ֔רא ֽל ֹא־אוּ ַ ֥כל ָ ֖אֶון of abomination to Me; New Moons and Sabbaths, calling ַו ֲﬠ ָצָ ֽרה: .convocations, I cannot [bear] iniquity with assembly

יד ָח ְד ֵשׁי ֶ֚כם וּ ֽמ ֲוֹﬠ ֵדי ֶכ ֙ם ָ ֽשֹ ְנ ָ ֣אה ַנ ְפ ִ֔שׁי ָה֥יוּ ָﬠ ַ ֖לי Your New Moons and your appointed seasons My soul .14 ָל ֑טַֹרח ִנ ְל ֵ ֖אי ִתי ְנ ֽשׂא: .[hates, they are a burden to Me; I am weary of bearing [them

טו וּ ְב ָ ֽפִר ְשׂ ֶ ֣כם ַכּ ֵפּי ֶ֗כם ַא ְﬠ ִ֚לּים ֵﬠ ַ֙יני ִמ ֶ֔כּם ַ ֛גּם And when you spread out your hands, I will hide My eyes .15 ִֽכּ ַי־תְר ֥בּוּ ְת ִפ ָ ֖לּה ֵא ֶ ֣ינ ִנּי שֹׁ ֵ ֑מ ַ ְי ֵדי ֶ ֖כם ָדּ ִ֥מים ָמ ֵ ֽלאוּ: from you, even when you pray at length, I do not hear; your hands are full of blood.

טז ַ ֽר ֲח ֙צוּ ִה ַזּ ֔כּוּ ָה ִ ֛סירוּ ֥רַֹ ַ ֽמ ַﬠ ְל ֵלי ֶ ֖כם ִמֶ ֣נּ ֶ גד ֵﬠ ָ ֑יני Wash, cleanse yourselves, remove the evil of your deeds .16

ִח ְד ֖לוּ ָהֵ ֽר ַ: .from before My eyes, cease to do evil

יז ִל ְמ ֥דוּ ֵה ֵ ֛יטב ִדְּר ֥שׁוּ ִמ ְשׁ ָ ֖פּט ַא ְשּׁ ֣רוּ ָח ֑מוֹץ ִשׁ ְפ ֣טוּ ,Learn to do good, seek justice, strengthen the robbed .17

ָי ֔תוֹם ִ ֖ריבוּ ַא ְל ָמָ ֽנה: .perform justice for the orphan, plead the case of the widow

יח ְל ָ ֛כוּ־נא ְו ִנָ ֽוּ ְכ ָ ֖חה י ֹ ַ ֣אמר ְי ָ ֑הוֹה ִאם־ִֽי ְה֨יוּ ֲח ָ ֽט ֵאי ֶ֚כם Come now, let us debate, says the Lord. If your sins prove .18 ַכּ ָשּׁ ִני ֙ם ַכּ ֶ ֣שּׁ ֶלג ַי ְל ִ֔בּינוּ ִאם־ ַי ְאִ֥דּימוּ ַכ ָ ֖תּוֹלע ַכּ ֶ ֥צּ ֶמר to be like crimson, they will become white as snow; if they ִֽי ְהֽיוּ: .prove to be as red as crimson dye, they shall become as wool

יט ִאם־תּ ֹ ֖אבוּ ְוּשׁ ַמ ְﬠ ֶ ֑תּם ֥טוּב ָה ָ ֖אֶרץ תּ ֹ ֵ ֽאכלוּ: If you be willing and obey, you shall eat the best of the .19 land.

כ ְו ִא ְם־תּ ָ ֽמ ֲא ֖נוּ וּ ְמִרי ֶ ֑תם ֶ ֣חֶרב ְתּ ֻא ְכּ ֔לוּ ִ ֛כּי ִ֥פּי ְי ָ ֖הוֹה But if you refuse and rebel, you shall be devoured by the .20

ִדּ ֵ ֽבּר: .sword, for the mouth of the Lord spoke

כא ֵאי ָכ ֙ה ָ ֽהְי ָ ֣תה ְל ָ֔זוֹנה ִקְרָ ֖יה ֶ ֽנ ֱא ָמָ ֑נה ְמ ֵ ֽל ֲא ִ ֣תי ,How has she become a harlot, a faithful city; full of justice .21

ִמ ְשׁ ָ֔פּט ֶ ֛צ ֶדק ָי ִ֥לין ָ ֖בּהּ ְו ַﬠ ָ ֥תּה ְמַר ְצּ ִֽחים: .in which righteousness would lodge, but now murderers

כב ַכּ ְס ֵ ֖פּ ָהָי֣ה ְל ִס ִ ֑יגים ָס ְב ֵ ֖א ָמ ֥הוּל ַבּ ָ ֽמִּים: Your silver has become dross; your wine is diluted with .22 water.

כג ָשַׂ ֣ר ִי ֽס ְוֹרִ ֗רים ְו ַח ְבֵר֙י ַגּ ָנּ ִ֔בים ֻכּ ֙לּוֹ ֹא ֵ ֣הב ֔שֹׁ ַחד ;Your princes are rebellious and companions of thieves .23 everyone loves bribes and runs after payments; the orphan ְורֵֹ ֖דף ַשׁ ְל ֹמִ ֑נים ָי ֙תוֹם ֣ל ֹא ִי ְשׁ ֔ ֹפּטוּ ְוִ֥ריב ַא ְל ָמָ ֖נה ֽל ֹא־ ָי ֥בוֹא ֲא ֵ ֽל ֶ ֽיהם: they do not judge, and the quarrel of the widow does not come to them.

כד ָל ֵ֗כן ְנ ֻ֚ אם ָ ֽה ָא ֙דוֹן ְי ָ ֣הוֹה ְצ ָב ֔אוֹת ֲא ִ ֖ביר ִי ְשָׂר ֵ ֑אל Therefore," says the Master, the Lord of Hosts, the Mighty" .24 הוֹי ֶא ָנּ ֵ ֣חם ִמ ָצַּ ֔רי ְו ִאָ ֽנּ ְ ק ָ ֖מה ֵמ ֽא ְוֹי ָ ֽבי: ,One of Israel, "Oh, I will console Myself from My adversaries and I will avenge Myself of My foes.

כה ְו ָ ֽא ִ֚שׁי ָבה ָי ִד֙י ָﬠ ַ֔ל ִי ְו ֶא ְצ ֥רֹף ַכּ ֖בֹּר ִס ָ ֑יג ִ י ְו ָא ִ ֖ס ָירה And I will return My hand upon you and purge away your .25

ָכּל־ ְבּ ִד ָ ֽיל ִי: .dross as with lye, and remove all your tin

כו ְו ָא ִ֚שׁי ָבה ֽשֹׁ ְפ ַ֙ט ִי ֙ ְכּ ָבִ ֣ראשָֹׁ֔נה ְו ֽיֹ ֲﬠ ַ ֖צ ִי ְכּ ַב ְתּ ִח ָ ֑לּה And I will restore your judges as at first and your .26 ַ ֽא ֲחֵר ֵ֗י־כן ִי ָ֚ קֵּרא ָל ֙ ִ ֣ﬠיר ַה ֶ֔צּ ֶדק ִקְרָ ֖יה ֶ ֽנ ֱא ָמָּ ֽנה: counsellors as in the beginning; afterwards you shall be called City of Righteousness, Faithful City.

כז ִצ ֖יּוֹן ְבּ ִמ ְשׁ ָ ֣פּט ִתּ ָפֶּ ֑דה ְו ָשׁ ֶ ֖ב ָיה ִבּ ְצ ָדָ ֽ קה: Zion shall be redeemed through justice and her penitent .27 through righteousness.
