OS LG “K” (2 items) Creator: Elise Bellin & Katherine Sipps; JoAnn Bank, January 2014 Abstract: Alan Kulwicki was a race car driver from Greenfield, Wisconsin. He graduated in 1977 with a degree in mechanical engineering from the University of Wisconsin-Milwaukee. Many credit much of his success on the track to his advanced knowledge of mechanical engineering, and he has inspired today’s drivers toward a more scientific approach to the sport. Kulwicki raced in Wisconsin throughout the 1970’s and into the 1980s until he broke into the NASCAR circuit in 1985 and moved to Charlotte, North Carolina. He won NASCAR’s “Rookie of the Year” Award in 1986 and also won the Winston Cup (now called the Sprint Cup) Series in 1992 by the closest margin ever recorded. Alan Kulwicki died in a plane crash on April 1, 1993. He was listed as one of NASCAR’s 50 Greatest Drivers and was inducted posthumously into several racing halls of fame. News From The American Le Mans Series - Baltimore 2013 www.michelinalley.com For teams competing in the GT category here at the 2 Grand Prix of Baltimore, there are two races taking place simultaneously; the race itself through the streets of downtown and the race to develop their cars as the 2013 ALMS season heads into the homestretch. Want to know how much difference a year of development can make? In the case of the SRT Vipers, the answer is a staggering 5.146 seconds in qualifying at Road America. And then, there was the race. In 2012, the Vipers, in just the second race since returning to ALMS GT competition after a decade long hiatus, qualified 11th and 12th at Road America with a best lap of 2:08.556. Fast forward 52 weeks and Jonathan Bomarito took the GT class pole at Road America with a lap of 2:03.410. That is a 5.146 second gain for the SRT Viper. Then co-driver Kuno Wittmer posted the fastest GT lap of the race. The SRT Vipers arrive in Baltimore on a roll, having claimed three poles in the first six races this season as they find themselves in the thick of the ALMS GT title fight with Corvette Racing and BMW Team RLL. Taking a first victory at Road America literally one year since the team’s return to ALMS competition, the SRT Viper team arrives here in Baltimore with confidence and momentum. The ALMS GT street fight with Corvette, BMW, Ferrari, Porsche and SRT Viper is expected to be especially tight here on the 2.02-mile circuit.

TRACK TIME © NASCAR 10 RECORDS AND MILESTONES NASCAR IN 2015 © NASCAR TRACK TIME | 2016 PRIMER A Season of Change rom Tony Stewart’s swan song to a collection of significant rules changes, NASCAR’s 2016 season is set up to be one of F excitement and adrenaline-pumping action. What else is new? One of the fastest-growing sports in terms popularity in the United States, NASCAR has attracted a fan base made up of young and old devotees who come out in droves to support their favorite drivers. And if last season was any indication, they will not be disap- pointed with the 2016 slate of NASCAR driving. One of last year’s surprise stories, Kyle Busch, looks to be a favorite to defend his 2015 Sprint Cup championship. With the title under his belt and a lead- ership role on last season’s most domi- nant team — Joe Gibbs Racing — Busch appears to have the inside track to repeat performance. MAJOR PACKAGE CHANGE Even if the Sprint Cup champion doesn’t change in 2016, plenty of adjust- ments are in order for the way drivers approach the track this season. In a move that was supported by both driv- ers and fans after being tested in 2015, NASCAR is implementing a new low- down force package for 32 of the 36 races this season. Many feel the rule alterations will have a dramatic and positive impact on racing as we know it. The base package includes a 3.5-inch spoiler, a quarter-inch front leading splitter edge and a 33-inch wide radia- © NASCAR tor pan.
