From volunteers cleaning up Oaklawn Cemetery and the shores of local lakes to city workers pick- ing up trash along local streets, the cleanup bug was evident in Lake City on Saturday. The cleanup effort wasn’t just confined to the city limits either as a dumpster situated near the Fort White Community Center in the south end of the county provided a site for residents there to pitch in and beautify their community. OUR OPINION Groups giving back is good to see t was great to see so many locals out this past week- end taking advantage of the opportunity to give back Ito their community. Whether it was the Wellborn Blueberry Festival or the Columbia County-wide cleanup day, there were crowds of happy people gathered together, having a good time and doing good things for our local communities’ sake. The annual blueberry festival drew a great crowd once again to the small eastern Suwannee County town, flocking to Andrews Square for blueberry pancakes and to support the festival and parade. In Lake City and around Columbia County, a great crowd of community-minded people showed up Saturday morning to help the city’s — and county’s — cleanup day effort.
