Nachhaltigkeits- bericht WER WIR SIND Marquard & Bahls, 1947 gegründet, ist eine agile, unabhängige Holdinggesellschaft im Bereich 102-4 Energie & Chemie. Mit Hauptsitz in Hamburg sind wir über unsere Tochtergesellschaften in 35 Ländern in Europa, Amerika, Asien und Afrika aktiv und beschäftigen weltweit rund 6.700 Mitarbeiter in den Bereichen Energielogistik, -handel und -versorgung. WAS WIR TUN Über unsere drei operativen Einheiten Oiltanking, Mabanaft und Skytanking sind wir in den Bereichen Tanklagerlogistik, Handel und Flugzeugbetankung aktiv. Auch für Marquard & Bahls war das Jahr von Wandel geprägt. Wir haben unsere Organisationsstruktur sowie das Portfolio angepasst, die Werte der Unternehmensgruppe überarbeitet und die Vision & Mission der Holding neu definiert. Dies haben wir zum Anlass genommen, unsere Nachhaltigkeitsstrategie zu überarbeiten. Um die ökologischen und sozialen Auswirkungen unserer Geschäftstätigkeiten noch besser zu erkennen, haben wir neue Leistungsindikatoren definiert und diese in einem Nachhaltigkeits-Dashboard zusammengefasst. Darüber hinaus haben wir ein Spendenziel im Verhältnis zu unserem Vorsteuergewinn (EBT) definiert und dieses in 2019 übertroffen. Viele unserer Mitarbeiter engagierten sich erneut im Rahmen des gemeinnützigen Engagements, indem sie Bäume pflanzten, Strände säuberten, Flüchtlinge unterstützten wie auch Bildungsprogramme in den umliegenden Gemeinden durchführten. Unsere operativen Einheiten haben Initiativen, die den ökologischen Fußabdruck im Kerngeschäft verringern, weiter vorangetrieben. Die meis- ten Umweltindikatoren in den Bereichen Energie, CO2-Emissionen und Wasser haben sich in 2019 verbessert. Zudem ging die Rate der meldepflichtigen Verletzungen von Mitarbeitern und Kontraktoren gruppenweit über 16 Prozent zurück. Die wichtigsten Entwicklungen und Kennzahlen stellen wir auf transparente Weise in unserem mittlerweile zehnten Nachhaltigkeitsbericht zusammen. Der Bericht orientiert sich an den international anerkannten Standards der Global Reporting Initiative (GRI) sowie am Deutschen Nachhaltigkeitskodex (DNK). In allen Ländern, in denen wir tätig sind, sind wir noch immer mit Herausforderungen durch die Corona-Pandemie konfrontiert. Unsere oberste Priorität ist dabei, die Gesundheit unserer Mitarbeiter und Kontraktoren bestmöglich zu schützen. Die Krise lässt uns aber auch enger zusammenstehen. Die römische Zahl X auf dem Umschlag steht dabei sinnbildlich dafür, dass es unser mittlerweile zehnter Bericht ist. Er fasst unsere Nachhaltigkeitsaktivitäten im Kalenderjahr 2019 zusammen. Der jährlich erscheinende Bericht bezieht sich auf sämtliche Unternehmen von Marquard & Bahls inklusive Joint Ventures – auch dann, wenn es sich um eine Minder- heitsbeteiligung handelt. Im Anhang findet sich eine Liste aller in den Bericht einbezogenen Gesellschaften. Der vorliegende Bericht wurde in Anlehnung an die Sustainability Reporting Standards der GRI verfasst. Nach unserer Einschätzung folgt der Bericht den Anforderungen der GRI-Standards-Option „core“. Der GRI Content Index im Anhang gibt an, wo im Bericht die spezifischen GRI-Berichtselemente und -Indikatoren aufgeführt sind. In addition, airports have important local environmental impacts, mainly in the form of noise pollution and deterioration in air quality. Although noise nuisance in the vicinity of airports is recognized as an important problem of the urban environment which is often addressed by regulation, other environmental problems associated with aviation are less widely acknowledged. In the climate debate, the importance of which is rising, aviation has remained under the radar for decades. In the present paper, we use the case of Brussels Airport (Belgium) to demonstrate that the local perception of air travel-related environmental problems may be heavily influenced by the communication strategy of the airport company in question. Basing our analysis on publicly available data, communication initiatives, media reports, and policy documents, we find that (1) the noise impact of aviation is recognized and mainly described in an institutionalized format, (2) the impact of aviation on local air quality is ignored, and (3) the communication on climate impact shows little correspondence or concern with the actual effects.

We have systematically and successfully implemented our previous strategy of growing in a CO2 neutral manner. This meant that even after opening the first midfield terminal in Germany in April 2016, we managed to maintain the CO2 level from 2005. Time for new ambitious environmental goals! We want Munich Airport operations to be carbon neutral by the year 2030. In order to achieve this challenging goal, we will reduce our CO2 emissions by 60 percent despite the further expansion in traffic volume and compensate the remaining 40 percent by means of suitable Foreword 5 climate projects, where possible in the region. We will make investments of 150 million euros in total to implement this ambitious climate protection program. This means that Flughafen München GmbH will devote what equates to a whole year’s profit exclusively to climate protection. We are launching this voluntary climate protection program without any statutory or official obligations, thereby emphasizing once more how committed Munich Airport is to achieving effective climate and environmental protection.
