ANCO becomes exclusive importer of Three British to the U.S.

Wensleydale Creamery, Belton Farm and Quenby Hall join ANCO’s offerings

NEW YORK (June, 2009) - ANCO Fine Cheese - one of the largest importers of specialty cheese in the U.S. with top-selling cheeses such as the Il Villagio, Ile de France and Corazon de Ronda brands - announced that it will now become the exclusive U. S. importer of three British cheese brands. The first, Wensleydale Creamery, already enjoys great popularity in the U.S., where it will now be solely distributed by ANCO. Belton Farm and Quenby Hall, both widely acclaimed in the United Kingdom, round out the triumvirate of new ANCO partners.

All three companies are known for their storied artisanal cheese varieties, and can trace their his- tory of the highest quality cheeses through the generations—the very reasons they were sought out to join ANCO. Wensleydale Creamery is the only producer of award-winning Real Yorkshire . This original Real Yorkshire Wensleydale recipe dates back to 1150 when the Cistercian monks settled in the dale and established their monastery. Today, at this same site, Wensleydale Creamery carefully crafts its cheese using milk from local farms. Its application for Protected Designation of Origin (PDO) for Yorkshire Wensleydale is currently being processed by the Eu- ropean Parliament. Some of the most popular Yorkshire Wensleydale varieties include Real York- shire Wensleydale with Ocean Spray Cranberries and Real Yorkshire Wensleydale with Apricots. Janette Scarth, Wensleydale Creamery export manager, said, “For a company of ANCO’s stature to approach the Wensleydale Creamery directly about becoming a supplier is testament to our culture, which combines excellence and innovation with traditional cheese-making techniques.”

Echoing the sentiment, ANCO Fine Cheese Director of Marketing Emmanuelle Hofer Louis not- ed, “Key factors in our selection of the Wensleydale Creamery as a supplier were its expertise, and the provenance and quality of its cheeses, as well as the strength of its brand in the U.S.”

“Quality, quality, quality” is the mantra of Belton Farm, according to Vice Chairman Brian Gretsy, who’s proud of the fact that Belton has been a totally organic farm since 2002.

One of ’s oldest cheese makers, Belton won 87 awards in 2008 for its handmade cheeses. Belton takes great pride in the heritage of its traditional —one of its most fa- mous cheeses - in addition to the very popular and Port Wine Derby with their dark green and burgundy veining, respectively.

That legacy led to his association with ANCO.

Though Quenby’s revival is fairly recent, the cheese makers at Quenby Hall have already been rewarded for their efforts with prestigious international awards. In addition to its creamy, blue- veined English Blue Stilton, Quenby Hall also produces a Double Gloucester & Stilton, the first English cheese to combine two layers, which reportedly is a favorite of Prince Charles.
