1 I. Introduction Mineral Interests May Lay Dormant for Decades Before
BASIC ARKANSAS INTESTATE SUCCESSION, RIGHTS OF SURVIVING SPOUSES, AND RELATED CURATIVE TECHNIQUES FOR LAWYERS AND LANDMEN BY 1 J. MARK ROBINETTE JR. I. Introduction Mineral interests may lay dormant for decades before becoming productive. In the interim, however, the owners of these interests do not lay dormant. They live long lives, marry, have children, and eventually, they die. Some of these persons have well-laid estate plans, know the nature and extent of their property, and upon their departure to the hereafter, leave their affairs in meticulous order with no question of who is entitled to what and where. Others depart this life leaving little more than a treasure map and their descendants. Generations and many lines of persons descended from one severed mineral owner repeat the cycle of life—marriage, children, and death with or without consideration for what happens to their property upon their passing. Over many generations with such variations in the handling of final affairs among members of a family, the ownership of the original mineral owner’s interest today can resemble a bowl of spaghetti. When confronted with such fragmented and splintered ownership, a lawyer or landman can untangle a family history and determine the true owners of a severed interest by simply knowing the basics of intestate succession, the rights of surviving spouses, and how to cure title issues generated by by the former. These course materials are intended as a refresher course for lawyers and as a general guide for landmen. This course will begin with an overview of intestate succession in Arkansas. -
New on Video &
New On Video & DVD Yes Man Jim Carrey returns to hilarious form with this romantic comedy in the same vein as the Carrey classic Liar Liar. After a few stints in more serious features like Eternal Sunshine Of The Spotless Mind and The Number 23, Carrey seems right at home playing Carl, a divorcé who starts out the film depressed and withdrawn, scared of taking a risk. Pressured by his best friend, Peter (Bradley Cooper), to get his act together or be stuck with a lonely life, Carl attends a New Age self-help seminar intended to change "no men" like Carl into "yes men" willing to meet life's challenges with gusto. Carl is reluctant at first, but finds the seminar to be ultimately life-changing when he's coerced into giving the "say yes" attitude a try. As the first opportunity to say yes presents itself, Carl hesitantly utters the three-letter word, setting the stage for a domino effect of good rewards, and giving Carrey a platform to show off his comic chops. But over time Carl realizes that saying yes to everything indiscriminately can reap results as complicated and messy as his life had become when saying "no" was his norm. The always-quirky Zooey Deschanel adds her signature charm as Carl's love interest, Allison. An unlikely match at first glance, the pair actually develop great chemistry as the story progresses, the actors play- ing off each other's different styles of humor. Rhys Darby also shines as Carl's loveable but clueless boss, and That 70s Show's Danny Masterson appears as another one of Carl's friends. -

Dallas” in 2012 Ryan R
Watching & Waiting: “Dallas” in 2012 Ryan R. Sanderson “Bullets don’t seem to have much of an effect on me darlin’,” the old man calmly mutters. Of course we the audience know just what he means. No matter how old he might be—in character and in years—it’s a pleasure to be able to say: J.R. Ewing is back! And he still has it. There’s nothing like sitting down in front of a television here in 2012 to watch a new program that quickly proves not-so-new upon hearing that grand, wonderful, unmistakable theme music. It’s almost like a trip back in time—almost perhaps, though not. The nostalgia factor is obvious, at least to those of us who know the characters and all that’s happened with them and to them over the past 30+ years. To see most of them alive and relatively well satisfies our initial curiosity. After all, we’re tuning in to get reacquainted with our all-time favorites and be caught up on where they’ve been and just where their lives have come. We—that is the aforementioned “those of us” with sharp memories who know what’s going on—are the reason for the “return” of the world-famous show. Ultimately, we’re the ones who must be satisfied in order for the program to be a success. This said, I ask: Why am I largely disappointed thus far in the new “Dallas”? It’s not all bad; some strong moments are beginning to come through. -
