1 Archaeological Investigations Project 2002 Field Evaluations

East Midlands Region

An evaluation was carried out in advance of mineral extraction. An area of terrace material was found, corresponding to the Fosse Way, a major Roman Road. A late Saxon date from the pre-alluvial ditch implied that this was built partly on terraced material as opposed to alluvial deposits. A late Saxon date has been applied to alluviating conditions and woodland clearance. All archaeological deposits would be destroyed by the proposed development. [Au(adp)]
