Gedurende 9 jaar werkzaam bij de eerste autovakanties- en citytrip touroperator All Air uit Oostende, van 1989 tot 1998, en vanaf 1998 verantwoordelijk voor de autovakanties en citytrips bij Jetair, later TUI, vandaag purchasing director Benelux en Frankrijk, voor alle auto-, city-, cars- en busvakanties met inbegrip van het Nederlandse zustermerk KRAS dat vanaf medio 2020 geïncorporeerd wordt in TUI Overland Benelux. PV: “Heel merkwaardig heb ik eigenlijk mijn hele carrière voor duo’s gewerkt: eerst voor Jan De Puydt en Jean Pierre Wijnsberghe bij All Air, later bij C&N Touristik-Neckermann, bij Wim Desmet en Marc Peeters, dan bij Jetair met vader Gerard en dochter Annemie Brackx, later met Bart Brackx en nu bij TUI met Dirk Van Holsbeke en Elie Bruyninckx.” Patrick stuurt vandaag een team van zo’n twintig collega’s aan in de verschillende segmenten van de overland vakanties bij TUI Benelux. Het spreekt voor zich dat autovakanties bij een generalist touroperator en marktleider in vliegvakanties, het niet altijd onder de markt hebben om zich perfect te profi leren, maar de absolute meerwaarde, met alle toeters en bellen op een autovakantie, overtreft gelijk welke eenvoudige online booking of reservatie. “Al 10 jaar geleden is de curve van reservaties bij ons onveranderd: meer dan 80% van alle zomerboekingen zijn eind maart gereali- seerd, ondanks alle octopus-portalen van het internet!” Terwijl het algemeen bekend is dat bij vliegvakanties – en dat bij alle to’s – vanaf dag één ‘geyield’ wordt, is de Benelux-klant een ‘vroegboeker’ wat autovakanties betreft. Het gaat immers om ‘zijn’ accommodatie waar dan ook in Europa – Gardameer, Spanje, Italië, Duitsland, Kroatië, of de Franse Kusten – en die moet hij met de auto, bagage, en kinderen optimaal kunnen bereiken. Hetzelfde geldt voor de wintersport. Niet zonder reden waarom Patrick Vancompernolle de vinger aan de pols houdt door de nodige weken per jaar ‘on the fi eld’ te blijven opereren. “Vreemd genoeg – of net niet – veroorzaakt politieke onrust zoals tussen 2010 en 2014 met de Arabische Lente en Turkije een boost voor autovakanties. Anderzijds was de mond- en klauwzeerepidemie in de UK (2000-2001) een ramp voor de hoteliers en dus ook geen boekingen van Westeuropese klanten, en ook niet uit onze contreien.” TUI EUROPA 2020 EUROPA “Topregio’s van de Benelux-klant met de auto onderweg zijn onder andere de Frans Atlantische kusten, EUROPA Toscane, Provence (ver van de zee), maar ook nieuwe ‘binnenlanden’ zoals in Slovenië en Umbrië. Qua typologie als klant is er wel een groot verschil met de pakketreisklant van een TUI-vliegvakantie: terwijl de ‘experience’ (al dan niet met app-begeleiding) bij de vlieg-klant centraal staat, wil de autoklant ‘gerust’ gelaten worden, waarbij zeer bepaalde hotels met opzet hun wifi blokkeren. Anderzijds staan de marges hier minder onder druk zoals bij de vliegtuigseats! Wat niet wil zeggen dat we van nieuwe spelers zoals Travelbird, Secret Escapes of Voyage Privé geen concurrentie ondervinden. Maar ons rekruteringsveld is onbeperkt”, net zoals ceo Elie Bruyninckx het opmerkt: “Autovakanties zijn net vliegvakanties, maar met oneindig veel seats.     Shoes By Steven Paul Lansky I rushed through the house, my face twisted, pulling long fingers through shaggy, shoulder-length, brown hair. “Fuck this! I need shoes! Shoes!” I took off my worn, desert boots on the porch and threw them at the woodpile, pulled off blue, cotton socks, snagging them on long, well-manicured fingernails. I had worked on my nails all morning before walking to the wedding. I drank bourbon neat, sampled champagne, listened to a string quartet and ate my fill, then walked three miles home. My father shut the screen door, its loose, aluminum frame rattling as it closed. He stood tall, white-bearded, a strap held his glasses snug to his head; my mother stood behind him. “You can’t come in,” he said. “Will you go to the Emergency Room?” she asked, her brown eyes flickering with resolve, salt and pepper hair in disarray. I picked a four-foot-long stick off the woodpile, test swung it, then shouted, “What the fuck for? I need shoes.” My jeans were torn at the knees, white threads hanging. Declared National Monument in 2012, the hotel is a notable example of rationalist architecture of the Modern Movement in Cuba. It was inaugurated on 10 December 1957 with a musical revue presented at the Cabaret Copa Room, which featured a special performance by Ginger Rogers. Climb the stately Avenida Paseo (2) will be nice. Among buildings of the 50s of the last century, beautiful old houses flanking the Republican period. We suggest paying attention to some in particular. Villa Lita (Museum Library Servando Cabrera) (3), 1912 - 13th Street corner Paseo This eclectic architecture mansion was acquired in 1922 by the Italian Emmanuela marriage and Pandini Ong, known as "Lita" and Joseph Pennino and Barbato. The museum that now houses perpetuates the memory of the renowned painter and draftsman Servando Cabrera Moreno (1923 - 1981), who cultivated both abstraction and figuration to form a work characterized by profound humanism, sensuality and aesthetic virtuosity. One block up, at 352 Paseo street corner 15, the House of Pablo Gonzalez de Mendoza (4), 1916- 1918 - is currently the residence of British Ambassador to Cuba. It has gardens to the streets 15 and Paseo, as well as the bottom, with several sculptures and a circular fountain.
