McAllister Washington Department of FISH AND WILDLIFE Wildlife Program WDFW 759 The Washington Department of Fish and Wildlife maintains a list of endangered, threatened and sensitive species (Washington Administrative Codes 232-12-014 and 232-12-011, Appendix I). In 1990, the Washington Fish and Wildlife Commission adopted listing procedures developed by a group of citizens, interest groups, and state and federal agencies (Washington Administrative Code 232-12-297, Appendix I). The procedures include how species listing will be initiated, criteria for listing and delisting, public review and recovery and management of listed species. The first step in the process is to develop a preliminary species status report. The report includes a review of information relevant to the species’ status in Washington and addresses factors affecting its status including, but not limited to: historic, current, and future species population trends, natural history including ecological relationships, historic and current habitat trends, population demographics and their relationship to long term sustainability, and historic and current species management activities. The procedures then provide for a 90-day public review opportunity for interested parties to submit new scientific data relevant to the draft status report and classification recommendation. During the 90-day review period, the Department held three public meetings to take comments and answer questions. The Department has now completed the final status report, listing recommendation and State Environmental Policy Act findings for presentation to the Washington Fish and Wildlife Commission. -

Khamees2 1 Health Education Program, school of Health Professions, idaho state University, Pocatello, idaho, UsA; 2 Department of Fisheries and Marine resources, college of Agriculture, University of Basrah, Basrah, iraq Abstract: Gyrodactylus aff. mugili Zhukov, 1970 (Monogenoidea: gyrodactylidae) is recorded and described from the gill lamellae of 11 of 35 greenback mullet, Chelon subviridis (Valenciennes) (minimum prevalence 31%), from the brackish waters of the shatt Al-Arab Estuary in southern iraq. the gyrodactylid was also found on the gill lamellae of one of eight speigler’s mullet, Valamugil speigleri (Bleeker), from the brackish waters of the shatt Al-Basrah canal (minimum prevalence 13%). Fifteen Klunzinger’s mullet, Liza klunzingeri (Day), and 13 keeled mullet, Liza carinata (Valenciennes), collected and examined from southern iraqi waters, were apparently uninfected. the gyrodactylids from the greenback mullet and speigler’s mullet were considered to have affinity toG. mu- gili Zhukov, 1970, and along with G. mugili may represent members of a species complex occurring on mullets in the indo-Pacific region. A single damaged gyrodactylid from the external surfaces of the abu mullet, Liza abu (Heckel), was insufficient for species identification. -

The copepod Lernaea cyprinacea Linnaeus, 1758 is known by the large spectrum of fish hosts which it infests, and to which it can cause haemorrhages and ulcerations. The paper focuses on some aspects of the relation between the Pumpkinseed sunfish and this copepod: infestation parameters, preferred attaching situs, relationship between the host size and parasitisation degree, as well as the visible effects of this parasite left on the fish body, in the Moara Domneascã Lake, Romania. Résumé. Le copépode Lernaea cyprinacea Linnaeus, 1758 est connu pour son grand spectre de poissons qu’il infeste et auxquels il peut produire des hémorragies ainsi que des ulcérations. Ce travail se concentre sur quelques aspects de la relation entre la perche arc-en-ciel et ce copépode: les paramètres de l’infestation, les sites d’attachement préférés, la relation entre les dimensions du poisson et le degré d’infestation par le parasite, ainsi que les effets visibles provoqués par ce parasite sur la surface du corps du poisson provenant du Lac Moara Domneascã (Roumanie). A Message from ASABE President Maury Salz Welcome to the 2019 Annual International Meeting (AIM) of the American Society of Agricultural and Biological Engineers in Boston, Massachusetts. I extend a special welcome to first time participants, international attendees and pre-professionals. I am confident you will find the meeting a welcoming and stimulating investment of your time. AIM offers a wide array of opportunities for you to gain knowledge in technical sessions, make new or catch-up with old friends at social events, contribute to the ongoing growth efforts in technical communities, and to celebrate the accomplishments of peers in the awards ceremonies. I highly encourage you to engage in the opening keynote session by GreenBiz’s Joel Makower and the following panel discussion on sustainability and the need for a national strategy, which could alter how we live. We as individuals, and collectively as ASABE, will be challenged to think about how this broader vision of sustainability could fundamentally change our lives and the profession. I want to thank our friends at Cornell University for serving as local hosts and the volunteer coordinators. Students work as volunteers to enhance the experience for all meeting participants and you can locate them by their blue shirts. Please thank them when you have the chance. Boston is rich in history and be sure to take some time to experience what this unique area has to offer. Department of Zoology, University of Nigeria, Nsukka. Email: [email protected] Abstract A review of various factors affecting parasite assemblages in fish hosts is presented. These factors are broadly divided into two: Biotic and abiotic factors. Biotic factors such as host age and size, host size and parasites size, host specificity, host diet and host sex and their influence on the abundance and distribution of parasites are considered and highlighted. Equally, seasonality and other environmental factors that may facilitate the establishment and proliferations of parasites in host populations are also highlighted. Keywords: Parasite, Factors, Assemblages, Fish hosts Introduction Results and Discussion There are numerous biotic and abiotic factors that affect parasite assemblages (Bauer, 1959; Esch, Host age and size: Generally, standard length of 1982; Kennedy, 1995). The term assemblages is fish is directly related to age (Shotter, 1973) and used here to refer to all microhabitat, in fish body size. Age has often been found to be (gastrointestinal) or on (external surfaces) the fish positively associated with the prevalence and/or hosts (Poulin, 2004). These factors include the intensity of parasitic infection (Betterton, 1974; following: physiological condition of the fish host, Madhavi and Rukmini, 1991; Chandler et al., 1995) host diet, host size, evolutionary history and (Table 1). Poulin (2000) stated that in fish environmental factors, such as season of the year, population, parasitic infection tends to increase with size and type of water body, altitude, temperature, increasing host age and size. -
