The winning marque in the “challenge” part of the event was Porsche with 41 cars, followed by BMW with 19, 9 each Audis and Mercedes, 2 Fer- raris, 1 Lotus and 3 others. Patrick Long’s & Sebastien Bourdais’ Comments About the 8th Annual Kart 4 Kids Pro-Am Kart Race It’s only fitting that this year’s 8th annual Kart 4 Kids charity karting event takes place just a few steps from the entrance of Johns Hopkins All Children’s Hospital in St Pete. It’s also just a stone’s throw from Dan Wheldon Way. Each year the event grows, the funds raised increase, and the awareness around a special hospital and a group of kids accelerate. Thank you to our hosts, all of the sponsors, partners, donors, pro drivers, and especially the large committee of great volunteers who make the production of this event happen. This event started off as a humble gathering, with the goal of raising a few dollars in the name of Dan Wheldon for the Hospital. Dan was a St. Pete resident, and someone who had a lot of time for All Children’s. We continue to race in his memory and smile as status and organization of this gathering continues to reach new boundaries! A few milestones were reached in 2018 for Kart for Kids. We managed to donate 130k$ to Johns Hopkins All Children’s Hospital, bring the event downtown and reinforce the involvement of the community and sponsors thanks to our amazing group of volunteers. The response from the racing community was no less impressive, with many drivers from different series donating their apparel and time. 2019 will be no less impressive and I want to thank each and every individual for their continued support.

Dear SCCA Media Partners, Welcome to what is truly a new era of the Sports Car Club of America, as the SCCA National Champi- onship Runoffs heads west for the first time in 46 years to Mazda Raceway Laguna Seca. This event, made possible with the help of our friends and partners at Mazda and the Sports Car Rac- ing Association of the Monterey Peninsula (SCRAMP), was met with questions at its announcement that have been answered in a big way, with more than 530 drivers on the entry list and a rejunvenaton of the west coast program all season long. While we haven’t been west of the Rockies since River- side International Raceway in 1968, it’s hard to believe it will be that long before we return again. The question on everyone’s mind, even more than usual, is who is going to win? Are there hidden gems on the west coast who may be making their first Runoffs appearance that will make a name for themselves on the national stage, or will the traditional contenders learn a new track quickly enough to hold their titles? My guess is that we’ll see some of each.

The engine is a Porsche Cayenne-based V8 built as an independent project and mated to a Riley Chassis. Pre-race favorites BMW Riley, Ford Riley, Ford Dallara, and last year's winner, the Brumos Porsche Riley, all led the race at various times during the day and night, but mechanical gremlins and miscues on the track derailed those ef- forts, and the Action Express team came away with the win. In the Rolex GT class, it looked like a Porsche 911 GT3 Cup victory was in the works once the leading Camaro broke overnight, but the leading TRG Porsches lost their advantage in the last four hours of the event. First, the #71 TRG Porsche 911 GT3 Cup, with NASCAR star Bobby Labonte at the controls, ran out of fuel on the course and had to be towed into the infield, where the TRG crew met the car, gave it a dump-can of fuel, and got it back on the track.

Corvette Racing Fast Facts As America’s premier production-based sports car team, Corvette Racing competes around the world on endurance racing’s biggest stages. That tradition continues in 2017 with a program that features a full- season campaign in the WeatherTech SportsCar Championship as well as another appearance at the 24 Hours of Le Mans – each with a pair of Chevrolet Corvette C7.Rs that meet current Automobile Club de l’Ouest (ACO) regulations for GTE cars. The 2017 season follows a phenomenal 2016 campaign that featured five race victories plus the Driver’s, Manufacturer’s and Team championships in the WeatherTech Championship and the Tequila Patrón North American Endurance Cup. Since 1999, Corvette Racing has won 103 races around the world – the most of any professional sports car team in North America. The totals include eight at the 24 Hours of Le Mans, 12 in the IMSA WeatherTech Championship, 82 in the American Le Mans Series and one in the GRAND-AM Rolex Sports Car Series. In 2015, the team also became the first sports car team since 2000 to win endurance racing’s Triple Crown – victories at the Rolex 24 At Daytona, Mobil 1 Twelve Hours of Sebring and 24 Hours of Le Mans in the same season. The team won five consecutive Triple Crown events – Daytona and Sebring in 2015 and 2016, and the 2015 Le Mans 24 Hours. The Corvette Racing record book also includes 11 team and manufacturer championships plus 10 driver titles. Race Cars: Corvette C7.R (Corvette 7th generation, Racing) Drivers: No.

Photo by Joe Jennings American Auto Racing Writers & Broadcasters Association, Inc. (www.aarwba.org) “Dedicated To Increasing Media Coverage Of Motor Sports” By Joe Jennings When NASCAR champion Jeff Gordon retired from NA- SCAR's premier series, he left the door open for occa- sional racing elsewhere and when Wayne Taylor came calling, he quickly accepted the latter's offer to co-drive his new prototype sports car in the 55th running of the Rolex 24 at Daytona. "It is a dream of mine to drive a car like this. It is fun for me and I treat this as if I am a rookie," Gordon said dur- ing a press conference prior to the race. The car was called the Konica Minolta Cadillac DPi-V.R, marking Ca- dillac's return to the IMSA WeatherTech SportsCar Se- ries after a several year hiatus. Gordon raced previously with the Taylor team at Daytona in 2007, and they finished on the podium, so he knew Jeff Gordon and Ricky and Jordan Taylor signing what he was getting into. Regardless, he trained hard, autographs before the race. particularly after initial tests of the car took its toll on his body. Co-driving with Gordon was veteran racer Max Angelelli along with Wayne Taylor's two sons, Ricky and Jordan. Not only did they have to do battle with 54 other teams, they had to endure cold and damp weather, as it rained in various degrees during slightly more than half of the race.
