Our Passionate Volunteers 2018 Lifetime Achievement Betsy Smith has been an active volunteer at the Center for 15 years, accumulating over 5,000 hours of service. Betsy’s tenure with the Center is significant; she is one of the Center’s three most tenured volunteers. She serves as LMC’s Marine Debris Sorting Captain, where she is respon- sible for sorting and documenting thousands of pieces of marine debris, collected through LMC’s beach cleanups, thus contributing immensely to the Center’s extensive marine debris database.

Betsy is incredibly knowledgeable and always ready to teach the public about LMC and our mission to help conserve sea turtles and their ocean home. Betsy also scouts for sea turtles during the Center’s nesting walks in June and July, and she donates her time and expertise to the Center’s special events. 34
