Time to Disco! Thank you, Christ Child Guild Members and Friends, who’ve devot- ed so much time and energy to ensure this evening’s success. We’re inspired by your months of enthusiastic support and wouldn’t be here without all of you!

Tonight we are together enjoying friends and great food and drink, in a sparkling setting. As we bid on items and socialize, we are raising funds for the neediest kids in our area. Your support helps keep infants and children warm and their new mothers on a healthy track; helps students achieve through excellent tutoring/ counseling programs, and empowers at-risk girls and families. The need is great, as is our resolve to see that Christ Child Society reaches its critical financial goals.

We have amassed a fantastic array of donations for our Silent and Live Auctions, and Baskets, so lovingly created by every Christ Child Guild.

Live Auction items may be purchased upfront with a “Buy Me Now” option. There are Live Auction Preview Posters, on which you may write your bid number for a Guaranteed Purchase. Your item will never see the Auction Floor. There is a “Buy Me Now” option on Silent Auction bid sheets as well.

Starting at 6:30, we’ll have cocktails and hors d’oeuvres and enjoy silent bidding and baskets. We’ll sit down to dinner at 8:00 with a Live Auction with former Channel 7 Sports Anchor Tim Brant. Tim’s mother, Frances, was a devoted Mary Virginia Merrick Guild Member; our success on Saturday is close to Tim’s heart. Red Wagon Appeal

During the Christmas season in 1884, Mary Virginia Merrick asked a little boy named Paul what he wanted for Christmas. Paul replied that he wanted a red wagon but that there would be no Christ- mas at his house because his father had lost his job. Remembering all her own happy Christmas days, Miss Mary suggested that Paul write a letter to the Christ Child, who is “the giver of all good gifts,” and ask for the red wagon. In a few days, Paul returned to Miss Merrick's side with a handful of letters written by his siblings and playmates. Mary Virginia gathered her friends and together they filled all the children's Christmas requests and attached tags that simply read "From the Christ Child.” With these first gifts and the dedication to improve the lives of needy children, the Christ Child Society was born.

The spirit of the red wagon lives on through the many programs the Christ Child Society delivers today. This year’s Red Wagon Appeal will benefit the Girls on the Rise Programs at the Mary Vir- ginia Merrick Youth Center. Appeal Process

Tonight we will give you the opportunity to make a tax deductible donation, and a very real difference in the lives of children. Your generous support of the Red Wagon Appeal will allow the Christ Child Society to continue to serve the needs of our most vulnera- ble children, as we have done for over 125 years. Please raise your bid number at whatever contribution level you are most comfortable with during the Red Wagon Appeal. Giving levels include: $2,000, $1,000 $500, $250, and $100. Remember, you are welcome to raise your bid number more than once, if your pre- ferred giving level is not offered.
