-ii- INTRODUCTION

This list of selected references was used in the compilation of the Geolo gical Survey of Wyoming's Metall ic and Industrial Minerals Map of Wyoming. The references are separated by region, or by mining district. These regions and districts are those shown on the Metallic and Industrial Minerals Map of Wyoming.

The boundaries of the mining districts as depicted on the map and as used in this report are based on similar and favorable geology rather than historic boundaries. The names applied to the districts are names that are in common usage. even though there may be more than one historic name attached t·o the district. For example, the South Pass District has historically been called the Atlantic City, South Pass. Miners Delight. and the Sweetwater District. as well as several other names. For simplicity, we are calling it the South Pass District.

The references in the listing provide some sources of information on the regional geology and geologic setting of the various districts and regions as well as information on the probable genesis (if known) of the deposits found within the mining districts. Supplemental and basic information ahout many occurrences are not contained in these references. The authors can provipe this information at the offices of the Wyoming Geological Survey on the University of Wyoming campus.
