CUSTOMS COMMISSIONERATE :

1 JURISDICTION : The Jurisdiction of Customs (Preventive) Commissionerate, Jodhpur (HQRS. At ) extends to the entire state of having a geographical area of 3.52 Lacs Sq. Kms including a 1037 Kms. Long internatinal border with Pakistan which extends from Hindumal Kot in District to Brahamano Ki Dhani (Barmer) near Tehsil in District adjoining Gujrat border. Prior to 1989, only two mixed Divisions (Customs-Cum- Central Excise) at Sriganganagar and Jodhpur with six Preventive Post at , , , Barmer, Chohtan and were entrusted the job of curbing smuggling activities on this border. Subsequently, due to alarming rise in the incidence of smuggling and narcotic drugs trafficking, Customs formations in this border were strengthened in the year 1989, and with effect from 30.01.1989 and office of the Additional Commissioner of Customs at Jodhpur and five Customs Divisions one each at Jodhpur, Jaisalmer, Bikaner, Sriganganagar,Barmer with 21Customs Range started functioning with a view to curb smuggling activities and drug trafficking on this border.

Thereafter, taking into consideration the field experience gained, the Districts of , and were also annexed to the jurisdiction of these formations and a new Customs Range was created at Udaipur with effect from 10.10.1992. 5 Ranges situated at all divisional headquarters were diverted from time to time considering the opening of Chief Commissioner's Office & Commissioner (Appeals) office at Jaipur
