Possibly the longest alot of you/us have gone without having the beautiful game. Crazy crazy times but I hope everyone is healthy, well & managing ok throughout these tough times. I can’t believe we’ve been without football here at the blackgold for 7 months but no doubt it’s made our love for the game even bigger. Anyway, it’s back!!!!! This year our pre-season is slightly longer for obvious reasons but we’re getting there. The squad are in good shape, we’ve kept what we finished with last season and made a couple of great additions so I have full confidence in us for this upcoming season. Very tough game for us today but will be great to test ourselves against such strong opposition early on. We have nothing to fear or lose to be honest. ‘Its good to We hope we can bring some entertainment back to your Saturdays. be back...’ It’s good to be back!!!!! Playing a club of the Stature of Torquay United makes it even better and I am so grateful to Gary Johnson and his staff and players for agreeing to the fixture. I first had dealings with Gary when he was for us . Young Joe Wickham has also signed manager of Yeovil first time round and I was and he excites me greatly. He is only 19 but caretaker manager of Salisbury . He really I think he can have a really good career at helped me out with players in those days this level and hopefully beyond if he applies and the great success he has enjoyed since him self properly. seems much deserved. Jez Bedford is back and looking very bright So far pre season has gone relatively and so is Luke Holmes. Luke has been unwell well. We have avoided any injuries and the with Covid but I’m hoping he will soon be players seem in a good place physically back to full fitness. and mentally. Having said that, today will be a hugely significant test for us and will Thank you to all the volunteers that have provide me with a much better idea of how worked so hard to get the pitch in the best close we are to being ready for the new condition I have seen for years and the season. We only have two games scheduled ground looking so good. I know it has been a after today so time is precious. big effort by many people and it really does make all the difference. I am pleased with the squad we have assembled . I think it seems strong and Enjoy the game well balanced with a good mix of young/ old players as well as a good blend of personalities which I think is vital to achieve To m EVERY GOAL that spirit and unity that is so vital to success. I have always felt that at this level you need EVERY CELEBRATION to create an environment where players are happy and enjoy coming to football . The EVERY MOMENT minute it becomes a chore or mundane for EVERY TEAM FREE then difficulties will arise. In terms of additions it is so good to have JD back from Weymouth. Sadly he is not viable today but I think he will make a big impact FOLLOW THE ACTION LIVE ON faplayer.thefa.com Poole Town FC v Torquay United | 9 proudly supports THE TRIDENT TRUST FUND Providing access to grants and funding for your club, in your community @PitchingIn_ Poole Town FC v Torquay United | 10 Chaplain’s Corner Welcome to today’s game and to our visitors from Torquay, we hope you have a safe trip home. Today’s fixture casts my mind back to the mid 1980s when I was a student in Exeter and Torquay United were local rivals for Exeter City.
