The tombs were constructed between the late 4th century and the late 5th century, which was the peak of the Kofun period, characterized by construction of distinctive mounded tombs called kofun. A set of 49 kofun in 45 component parts is located on a plateau overlooking the bay which was the maritime gateway to the continent, in the southern part of the Osaka Plain which was one of the important political cultural centers. The property includes many tombs with plans in the shape of a keyhole, a feature unique in the world, on an extraordinary scale of civil engineering work in terms of world-wide constructions; among these tombs several measure as much as 500 meters in mound length. They form a group, along with smaller tombs that are differentiated by their various sizes and shapes. In contrast to the type of burial mound commonly found in many parts of the world, which is an earth or piled- stone mound forming a simple covering over a coffin or a burial chamber, kofun are architectural achievements with geometrically elaborate designs created as a stage for funerary rituals, decorated with haniwa clay figures.

The purpose of this article is to analyze the current state of virtual reality content in Korea and to look into future prospects. A number of virtual reality contents have been produced and contributed to some of the public's interest in historical culture. However, there are some limitations in improving the historical imagination pursued in history. In order to overcome this problem, it is necessary to create and utilize experience contents using the metaverse concept. 1. Introduction Virtual reality (VR) means a specific environment or situation, or technology itself, that is similar to the reality created by artificial technology using computers, but is not actual. At this time, the created virtual (imagined) environment or situation stimulates the user's five senses and makes the user experience a spatial and temporal experience similar to reality, thereby freely bringing the boundary between reality and imagination. Users can not only simply immerse themselves in virtual reality, but they can also interact with things implemented in virtual reality, such as manipulating or commanding them using real devices. In addition, virtual reality is distinguished from a one-sided simulation in that it can interact with users and create user experience. Virtual reality contents are contents created by utilizing this virtual reality technology. This content enhances the understanding of the object by letting people’s experience elements that are not experienced in the real world. Especially, since it can inform the past history and culture that can not be experienced by modern people through virtual reality, it is widely used in historical contents.

    Mounded Tomb Cultures of Three Kingdoms Period Korea and Yamato Japan: A Study of Golden Regalia and Cultural Interactions THESIS Presented in Partial Fulfillment of the Requirements for the Degree Master of Arts in the Graduate School of The Ohio State University By Angela Jean Haugen Graduate Program in East Asian Studies The Ohio State University 2010 Master's Examination Committee: John Huntington, Advisor Susan Huntington Thomas Kasulis Copyright by Angela Jean Haugen 2010 Abstract This paper examines the relationships between the Three Kingdoms period Korea (57 B.C.E. to 668 C.E.) and the Kofun period (250-538 C.E.) in Japan. The methodology of this study includes examination of the mounded tombs and grave goods through photographs and English translations of historical texts and various secondary sources. We know that there was contact between the peoples on the Korean peninsula and the Japanese archipelago at this time. This contact consisted of trade, war, and migration of the elite families who wore gold jewelry of the type found in the tombs as well as the importation of skilled laborers. Due to the similarities in tomb construction, visual vocabulary, and identical shamanistic iconography, it is the conclusion of this paper that the people who wore this jewelry were a unified culture of political and spiritual leaders. The elite families from Baekje and Yamato Wa in particular participated in a shared culture, which was shamanistically ruled, with no apparent cultural boundaries between the areas due to intermarriage between Baekje and Yamato Wa families. Establishment of this shared culture offers a new perspective on what have been contentious issues among Korean and Japanese scholars.

The five-tired body stands erect on its low, narrow foundation stone. The entasis expressed in the stone pillars of the first tier and the thin raised manifestations of the roofs are features borrowed by this stone pagoda from the preceding wooden examples. It does not simply mimic timber architecture, however, but creatively applies these elements to engender an aesthetic and solemn posture. Alongside the Stone Pagoda of Mireuksa Temple Site (National Treasure No. 11), this is one of only two stone pagodas remaining from Baekje. The images shown on the back are some of the artifacts excavated from the Baekje Historic Ar- eas: from the left, a sarira reliquary from the stone pagoda of Mireuksa Temple Site, the Stone Guardian from the Tomb of King Muryeong (National Treasure No. 162), the Gold Diadem Ornaments of the Queen Consort of King Muryeong (National Treasure No. 155), and the Great Gilt-bronze Incense Burner of Baekje (National Treasure No. 287).
