Comments in the media concerning Christoph Daum :

Marc Degryse, analyst and former player and sportsmanager of Club Brugge and Anderlecht :

We all played in the top league. We know how Christoph Daum can keep the pressure away of his team. He is right when he says Anderlecht will become champion, because his team is not as good as Anderlecht. He has far less possibilities in his team than his colleague in Anderlecht. To be honest, if Club Brugge becomes champion with this team, that would be a real stunt. They should put Daum on a statue in that case.

Pieter – Jan Devlieger in newspaper “De Morgen”, 6/4/2012 If you know Christoph Daum as the yelling and screaming man on the bench of Club Brugge, you don’t know him really. Because in real life he is someone else. He “begeistert” and is so charming. He is the one who says what he is thinking. “I learned to live with my mistakes and weaknesses.”

Club –player Lior Refaelov in the newspaper Het Laatste Nieuws, 6/4/2012 In the end, Lior Refaelov explains once again the difference between Daum and Koster, the former coach of Club : “Some people say they are two extremes. But that is not true. If they are extremes, it would have been impossible to work with the same group. Daum changed one important thing: today we are winners! Before, when we were leading 2-0 or 3-0, we were not sure to win the game. Now we know how to finish the game. "

Jacques Sys, Head of Editors in Sport Voetbalmagazine (the most important Sports magazine in ), 4 april 2012

Christoph Daum is sitting in the Jan Breydel Stadion, looking at the pitch. He reminds us of the fact that this rather old stadium has a nostalgic atmosphere. Outside youth teams are playing and you can hear their enthusiasm. It is the day after the 2-0 win against RC Genk. Club presented their real face, like they did the last few months... : creating chances, finishing the game and keeping a good defensive organization. Only, the game was not always that sparkling. More than any one else, Daum realizes that the team needs to bring more quality. Once he referred to the job of a coach as an electrician: you have to find the bad plugs, change them and put the team again under high power. That is the way he is working in Brugge. Every day again Christoph Daum tries to take the inefficiency out of the team’s play. Convincing, motivating, inspiring, instructing and so on. This is what suits him the most. He is an artist with words, who loves to use metaphors or to quote from literature. Like he did a few days ago, from “The art of War” from the Chinese writer Sunzi, a book of metaphors life. Daum uses them without any problem. Like : “if you are not careful enough in life, trouble will be around.”

Talking with Christoph Daum is an enrichment. His knowledge is not limited to the things happening on the pitch. With ease he entertains you about history, literature or the cultural wealth of Brugge. And he enjoys the process he is working on with Club Brugge. Some people say he ‘s a result-coach, okay, but in the end the figures are always there! 39 points out of 51, a score from more than 76%. But the team needs more balance. And that is why Daum, in his urge to get more quality in the team, needs –on behalf of the team- to step back a little in order to move forward again.

Captain Carl Hoefkens about Christoph Daum in newspaper Het Laatste Nieuws, 29/3/2012 The respect for Daum is there. It is from my period with (in Lierse, 1997) that I met a coach with that kind of charisma. If I become a coach one day, I will let my moustache growing (laughing). No, to be honest: I will be inspired by him. The way he creates an authority is so special. At the same time, he is one of us, but also above us. If I could get that quality, I think I would be a good coach.

Vincent Mannaert, General manager of Club Brugge, and Bart Verhaeghe, President of the team, in the Newspaper Het laatste Nieuws, 24/3/2012 «He brought the mentality and winning-spirit back in the team. A player like Refaelov changed completely from a technical player to a more complete player. The same for Vázquez , Dirar, Odjidja.. He can show out players what they need to become a better European player. Our young players like Lestienne, Van Acker learned a lot. Daum is a winner and therefore very demanding! Every week we have a meeting and we always come to the same conclusion. It is so good what Christoph Daum brings to this club. He teaches us, with his experience, what Club Brugge needs to be successful. And we try to follow him. Only, he is used to work in a team with a larger budget and much more quality in his selection. He has the right to ask for more…. But I can only answer that Club Brugge is not Besiktas or Bayer Leverkusen . We need to work with all means we got.”
