CITY NEWS 4 City of Dana Point 25 Year Anniversary Dana Point has a long and rich history, documented in the early California sea journal of Richard Henry Dana in Two Years Before the Mast, published in 1840. Though our history is old, the City of Dana Point is young at 25 this year. Dana Point has come a long way from its incorporation date on January 1, 1989. Since that time the City has modified an office building into a functional City Hall to serve Dana Point residents, has improved and developed its parks and streets, and has provided an effective local government under leadership of outstanding civic leaders who have been elected to serve on the City Council over the past 25 years. Under this local control, the City of Dana Point has responded to major private development proposals including the Headlands, which in its final form provides extensive public parks, trails and high-quality amenities for the community. There could be no better celebration of the City’s 25th anniversary than development of the Town Center, also known as the Lantern District. This major project was made possible through City leadership with local control. Fittingly, City construction began in early 2014, Dana Point’s 25th year, and is the largest public works project in our history in the heart of the City. Other major Dana Point projects underway include the Doheny Village Plan and the County’s Dana Point Harbor Revitalization project, as well as several private developments planned, many of which are located in the Lantern District. City progress, fueled by citizen involvement, City Council leadership, business community success and private development enhance our quality of life and set the stage for a bright Dana Point future.

Pacific Coast Highway and Del Prado Street Improvement Update Construction of underground utilities, including water, sewer and storm drains, continue on schedule. The City Council awarded a contract for the next phase of the PCH/Del Prado Street Improvement Construction Project, and construction is set to begin in February. This will provide beautification elements such as medi- ans and new Palms on PCH in the Lantern District and on Del Prado between Ruby Lantern and Blue Lantern. The project schedule runs from February through October and will return PCH and Del Prado back to a two way streets at its completion. Project information can be obtained by emailing [email protected].
