THE HARRIER (JUNE 2019 NEWSLETTER) A rare photograph of your Editor in the famous Lombard Street, San Francisco Following a few hectic weeks involving the Ivybridge 10K and the Plymouth Half Marathon it has been relatively quiet on the road scene, but that will soon change with the Erme Valley Relays on Friday 5 th July . We need your help in various ways (see article by Paul ) on what will as usual be a great evening. The club are re -launching the popular t-shirt photographic competition (see details elsewhere) which was originally launched 5 years ago following the very positive comments about our t -shirts in our 10K of that year. Above is an example of a photograph (a chance for some of you to see who I am!) and a few more elsewhere to give you some idea. Please send any photos to me at [email protected] as I will publish them from time to time. Enjoy the summer and your races - Dave Fox - Editor From the Chair …… Hi everyone – hope you are all well. I’m told the summer months are here, but as I write these notes it’s lashing down outside! At our committee meeting Ian Crossley took us through ‘a wash up’ of the hugely successful 10k event – thank you to all again - the feedback from across all platforms has been very positive. As always there were lessons learned where we can improve even further. We are now in full swing for our Relay Event led by Paul Ross here at the Rugby Club on Friday 5 th July 2019 . Whilst Paul is close to acquiring all the volunteers he needs (we try and hold it using as few marshals as possible to allow people to run as well), that said there are a number of marshal opportunities that allow you to run as well – for example marshalling the main car park with me from 4:45pm!! Our own Summer Handicap continues to get fantastic participation, I’m delighted that a number of our juniors take part – which is a real stepping stone to senior running. We are planning to run another FREE coach to the Torbay Road Relays event which is on the Friday 23th August 2019 at 7.00 p.m. This is a 4 x 3 Kilometre (approx.) road relay over an out and back lap of the circuit at the Torbay Velopark, Clennon Valley Sports Centre, Goodrington, Paignton. Dan Francis will be leading on this I have asked that we look at the numbers (names on the board in the club) to be able to plan for the teams and coach arrangements – Further details to follow shortly. There is also a plan to run a further FREE coach later this year to a 10k – ideas from yourselves are welcome. I was delighted to hear that Alison Thorn, Cleo Perry and Alison Engledew have all been selected for the England Masters Half Marathon in Maidenhead on 1st September. Well done to all from the whole of the club! We have revived the “Be seen in a EVH T-shirt competition” again for 2019-2020. To include seniors and juniors – you can be wearing a EVH t-shirt, vest, hoodie or Ivybridge 10k t-shirt. To win you just need to have a special picture taken on a holiday or with a famous person and you will be in with a chance of winning. A prize will be awarded at next year’s EVH presentation – so you’ve plenty of time to go on holiday etc! Finally this month the Xmas Meal which is being organised by Linda Bracher and Ken Summers for Saturday 7th December 2018 deposits are now being collected by Linda and Ken – it looks like it will be as popular as last year’s event which is brilliant! Have another great months running. If you have any feedback or notes you want me to cover next month, please do not hesitate to e-mail [email protected]. Mark Livermore SECRETARY’S NOTES up.
