Dawn services at war memorials honour the sacrifice of those who died in war. Warramunda’s Lone Pine Ceremony, will be held at our beautiful Lone Pine Tree (weather and COVID-19 regulations permitting) with the Kyabram RSL and local College students, in April. Church Services Our Church Services are held at Warramunda Village on Thursday mornings and we look forward to our Residents participating in these important events. We are able to welcome ILU Residents who are unable to attend the community church services over the weekend. Free to air TV screen religious programs on Sunday mornings, which can be viewed on any TV. Please see the TV Guide or ask any team member for assistance. Residents Meetings Residents meetings are held on the first Wednesday of each month. The next Residents meeting will be held on Wednesday, 7th April 2021 at 9.30am in the main dining room. All Residents are welcome to attend. Warramunda Apartments Residents Meeting The next Apartments Residents meeting will be held on Tuesday, 13th July 2021 at 9.30am in the Apartments Dining Room. Serious Incident Response Scheme (SIRS) The Serious Incident Response Scheme (SIRS) is a new Government initiative to help reduce the risk of abuse and neglect for people living or staying in a residential aged care home. The scheme requires aged care providers to identify, record, manage, resolve and report all serious incidents that occur, or are alleged or suspected to have occurred, in a residential aged care service. Please see the SIRS flyer on display throughout our home for more information. Copies are also available from reception and near the Lifestyle & Leisure activity board in the main corridor. COVID-19 update Thank you to all our Residents, families, visitors and team members for your support with our processes to meet the ongoing changing COVID-19 regulations. Updates will be communicated with you as and when the regulations and circumstances change. Please continue with COVID-19 safe practices of social distancing and hand sanitising and remember to keep your cough under cover. Significant Dates in April 2021 1st - Maundy Thursday (Holy Thursday), Christian, is the day that Christ celebrated the Last Supper with his disciples, four days after his entry into Jerusalem on Palm Sunday. 2nd – Good Friday, Christian, is a solemn Christian remembrance of the suffering and crucifixion of Jesus Christ. Hot cross buns are traditionally eaten on Good Friday. 4th – Easter Sunday, Christian, commemorates the resurrection (return to life) of Jesus Christ following his death by crucifixion. It is the most significant event of the Christian calendar. 8th - Yom Hashoah V’Hagevurah, Jewish, literally the “Day of (Remembrance of) the Holocaust and the Heroism” and is a memorial day for the six million Jews killed by the Nazis between 1933 and 1945. It is observed by many people of Jewish and other faiths. 12th – Ramadan, Muslim, is expected to begin in the evening of 12 April (subject to the sighting of the moon) and concludes in the evening of 11 May. Ramadan is the most auspicious month on the Islamic Calendar, being the month in which the first verses of the Qur’an were revealed to the Prophet Muhammad. Ramadan Muslims around the world fast from sunrise to sunset. 13th – Songkran, Thai New Year (13-15 April), is the Thai New Year and Water Festival, is one of Thailand’s oldest and favourite festivals. Thai communities across Australia celebrate this festival with food, crafts and entertainment. 14th - Baisakhi or Vaisakhi, Sikh, also known as Vaisakhi, is an ancient harvest festival which marks the beginning of a new solar year and harvest season. Baisakhi also marks the founding of the Khalsa in the 17th century, which is the collective body of all baptised Sikhs. 14th - Pohela Boishakh (Bengali New Year) - marks the first day of the Bangla Calendar. People clean and decorate their houses to welcome the New Year. They visit temples and pray for good fortune and prosperity in the coming year. 14th - Pi Mai/Songkran, Lao New Year (14-16 April), the coming of the New Year is seen as an opportunity to let go of the past and embrace a promising new future. Water, which holds great symbolic value in Lao culture, is used to wash Buddha statues. People also splash water on each other during the celebrations that last three days. 14th - Sinhalese and Tamil New Year, beginning of the solar New Year, traditionally celebrated by Sinhalese and Tamils in Sri Lanka and Tamils in India. This festival is known as Puthandu or Puthu-varusham among Tamil and Aluth Avurudda among Sinhalese. 20th – Ridvan, Baha’I, is celebrated from 20 April to 1 May and is the most significant festival of the Baha’i faith. The First Day of Ridvan is the most important of the Baha’í Holy Days. It is the day on which Baha’u’lláh declared his mission as a messenger of God in the Garden of Ridvan. 21st - Rama Navami, Hindu, celebrates the birth of Lord Rama and falls on the last day of Navratri - a nine-day Hindu festival where prayers are offered to the goddess Durga. Devotees, who have been observing fast throughout Navratri, break the fast on this day. 25th – ANZAC Day, Australia & New Zealand, is one of Australia’s most important commemorations. It marks the anniversary of the first major military action fought by Australian and New Zealand (ANZAC) forces during the First World War (1914-18), at Gallipoli. Dawn services at war memorials honour the sacrifice of those who died in war. Marches and reunions are held during the day. 27th - Hanuman Jayanti, Hindu, is a celebration of Hanuman who was an embodiment of Lord Rama. Devotion and selfless work are encouraged. 27th – Theravada New Year, Buddhist, Theravada Buddhists believe in reincarnation, dharma, karma, nirvana, the Four Noble Truths and the Eight-Fold Path. 30th - Holy Friday, Orthodox Christian, commemorates Jesus’ death by crucifixion. Spring flowers are often collected for the epitaph at church. Evening or late afternoon liturgies are held, followed by the procession of the epitaph in some churches where the evening ends with a candlelit procession of the epitaph through the streets.
