MÜLLER, 1916 [previously the authorship of Stenolophus narentinus was erroneously attributed to DROVENIK & PEKS (1999)] is considered a junior synonym of Stenolophus (Stenolophus) proximus DEJEAN, 1829. For Psychristus (Psychristus) dentatus JAEGER, 2009 male characters are described and figured for the first time. Abstract The collection of type specimens of the family Carabidae (Coleoptera) deposited in the Natural History Museum of Barcelona, Spain.— The type collection of the family Carabidae (Coleop- tera) deposited in the Natural History Museum of Barcelona, Spain, has been organised, revised and documented. It contains 430 type specimens belonging to 155 different taxa. Of note are the large number of hypogean species, the species of Cicindelidae from Asenci Codina’s collection, and the species of Harpalinae extracted from Jacques Nègre’s collec- tion. In this paper we provide all the available information related to these type specimens. We therefore provide the following information for each taxon, species or subspecies: the original and current taxonomic status, original citation of type materials, exact transcription of original labels, and preservation condition of specimens. Moreover, the differences between original descriptions and labels are discussed. When a taxonomic change has occurred, the references that examine those changes are included at the end of the taxa description. New VC records and new British host beetle species. Alan S. Lazenby Laboulbeniales are ectoparasites which grow externally from minute pores on the chiten exoskeleton of living invertebrates. They have been recorded worldwide on hosts including coleoptera - ground beetles and rove beetles are the major hosts, with a few on other genera including water beetles and ladybirds. They have also been recorded on other orders including diptera, cockroaches, ants, millipedes and mites. The fungi can occur singly, scattered over dorsal and ventral surfaces including legs, antenna and mouth parts, or grouped in discrete areas possibly due to transference of spores during mating. See Figures 1-4. The fungi cause little harm to the host, although a heavy infestation can be an incumberance - I have seen a beetle with a large bunch on a leg dragged along like a ball and chain. The majority of Laboulbeniales are host specific occurring on a single species or closely related species. There are more than 265 species recorded from Europe and over 1800 globally. This paper lists all my records of Laboulbeniales including Rachomyces and Asaphomyces and their host beetle species. My oldest record is 86 years old (Fig. 25), it is from the Bombadier beetle, Brachinus crepitans, collected by Phillip Booth in 1930 - Phillip came to a Sorby indoor meeting in the 1980s and he passed on two boxes of beetles, which included this southern species. -

The family forms a well-defined taxonomic group that can be easily recognized on the basis of a combination of anatomical features that include a characteristic body shape, eleven-segmented filiform (thread-like) antennae and five- segmented tarsi on all pairs of legs. Ground beetles are often uniformly dark in colour, although some species, especially those that are day-active, are more brightly coloured and variously patterned. Identification keys to British species of Carabidae have been available for many years (for example; Joy; 1932; Lindroth, 1974) and the taxonomy has been extensively revised in a recently published key by Luff (2007). Additional aids to identification can be found on-line (e.g. http://markgtelfer.co.uk/beetles). Ground beetles are very active, fast running beetles and many species are predators of smaller invertebrates. Their study has benefitted from the use of pitfall traps (see below in methods) although the technique has to be used with an awareness of the bias that may be present in the data obtained (Greenslade, 1964). For any reuse or redistribution, researchers must make clear to others the licence terms of this work 2 Abstract Urban house sparrow nestlings can develop poorly through lack of invertebrate food (Peach et al., 2008). Productivity can be increased by providing invertebrates (Peach, Sheehan & Kirby, 2014; Peach et al. in press). This study tested the effectiveness of three habitat treatments in increasing invertebrates and seeds in London parks, and their usage by house sparrows. Treatments were: annually sown ‘wildlife seed’ plots; sown perennial wildflower meadows; and existing grass grown taller. Treatment establishment and seed abundance were assessed by vegetation measurements, and practicality qualitatively assessed through questionnaires. Invertebrate abundance and variety were measured using sweep netting and vacuum sampling, and relationships tested with treatment type and modelled air pollution levels. -

Ces captures sont discutées en fonction du milieu de récolte . Létang Fouget et les dunes éoliennes sont les plus riches . Plusieurs groupes despèces sont bien représentés tels les Agonum et Europhilus , les Amara du sous-genre Zezea, les Harpalus et les Badister. Les dunes éoliennes sont remarquables par la présence despèces psammophiles exceptionnelles e n dehors des côtes maritimes . Lintérêt faunistique de la réserve est renforcé aussi par la présence de plusieurs espèces rares dans la région . 2 A Provisional Atlas of the Carabidae of Leicestershire & Rutland Derek Lott, Graham Finch & Gareth Price LESOPS 25 (2011) ISSN 0957 - 1019 A collaborative publication from The Leicestershire & Rutland Environmental Resources Centre and The Leicestershire Entomological Society 3 FOREWORD In the spring of 2009, Derek Lott, Graham Finch & Gareth Price embarked on the production of this atlas. The idea of the atlas was the brainchild of Graham Finch, who had attended a ground beetle training course and became well aware of the need for a VC55 distribution atlas. In July 2009 a very simple first draft was produced. Derek Lott and Graham Finch scrutinized the first draft. A number of important issues needed consideration, such as taxonomic changes, the classification of sites, obtaining accurate grid references and the removal of invalid species records falsely recorded in Leicestershire and Rutland. Derek Lott provided Carabidae context to some sites in the gazetteer as well as providing species context. The production of this atlas was made much easier by the life-long work of Derek Lott, who had already accumulated vast amounts of ground beetle data and local knowledge, without which this atlas would not have been possible. Special thanks go the Carabidae recorders who have sent in records. We have endeavoured to reference and acknowledge the people and sources that have helped in the production of this atlas but often with natural history publications there are too many people to thank over a very long period of time. Our apologies go to the people or sources that have been inadvertently omitted. The gazetteer obtained information from a number of sources, in particular the Flora of Leicestershire (Primavesi & Evans, 1988) and the Flora of Rutland (Messenger, 1971). -
