Along with the two-page petition is a “Disclosure and Authorization For Consumer Reports” form that gives the Grand Lodge of Virginia the right to perform a background check on you. Upon their completion, the petition and authorization form will need to be submitted to a local Lodge, along with the Lodge’s required fees for a petition and background check. When printing out the petition, please print it on two sides, if at all possible. Please note that documents with sensitive personally identifiable information such as Social Security numbers and birth date must be stored securely, electronic versions shall be password protected, and must be encrypted when electronically (e-mailed) transmitted. The usual process that follows is that your petition for degrees will be presented to the Lodge at its next meeting. The background check will be done and the final report is sent to you. A committee composed of three members of the Lodge will meet with you to answer any questions that you or your family may have concerning our Fraternity.

Where has this year gone? There have been many questions and concerns about holding our Annual Grand Communication in October. Many jurisdictions have either cancelled or postponed their Grand Com- munications. Due to the circumstances and the uncertainty of the months ahead, the plan going forward is to have a one-day Grand Communication Session at the Galt House scheduled for Monday, October 19, 2020 pending approval from the delegates. Registration will be on Sunday, October 18, 2020 and the morning of Monday, October 19, 2020. With the current restrictions and mandates in place, we will be unable to hold the session at levels that we have been accustomed to in the past. At the present time, due to the health risks associated with COVID-19, attendance will be limited to elected and appointed Grand Lodge Officers, Past Grand Mas- ters, DDGM’s and one delegate from each subordinate Lodge and other essen- tial members needed to conduct the business of the annual session, including the election. Due to limited capacity, the Ritual Competition scheduled for Sunday, Geary F. Laird October 18, 2020 will be cancelled. Those of us who have had the pleasure of witnessing Springfield Lodge's presentation on Cleopatra's Needle are aware of the very Masonic symbols that were found under the base of an Egyptian obelisk that was erected about 1500 B.C. John Robinson in Born in Blood provides much evidence that we owe our lodges to the Knights Templar who needed a cover following their suppression by the Catholic Church in 1307. The most generally accepted view, points to the guilds of freemasons. Operative masons have always been involved in the building of temples and other monuments from antiquity to the present day. Written evidence indicates that sometime before 926 AD masons had formed guilds or lodges but appear to have had some problems in their government. The Regius Poem or Halliwell Manuscript, which dates from 1390, tells how Athelstan, King of All England, called an Assembly at York in 926 to consider the government of the Master Masons and Craftsmen. At this assembly, fifteen Articles were adopted for the government of the Master Mason. These Articles include that: The Master must be steadfast, trusty and true.

    Summer 1999 Commemoration Day - June 26, 1999 To commemorate the bicentennial of the death of our nation's First President, the Masonic Grand Lodges of the United States sponsored a special day of historic events, music and fireworks at the George Washington Masonic Memorial. The day was a huge success with thousands of people attending. Nearly all the Grand Lodges of the United States were represented as were several foreign jurisdictions. The event officially began with the firing of a cannon by the First Virginia Regiment of the Continental Line from their "living history" encampment on the grounds of the Memorial. The Regiment presented tactical demonstrations and portrayed camp life during the Revolutionary War. The participants proceeded out of the front entrance of the Memorial to the pipes and drums of the KENA Highlanders. Artillery Crew of the First Virginia Regiment. First Virginia Regiment of the Continental Line fires cannon. Heroes of '76 Color Guard. Heroes of '76 and State Flags. First in the procession were the Heroes of '76, National Sojourners who provided the Color Guard which consisted of the National, Virginia and Grand Lodge of Virginia colors followed by flags of all 50 states, the District of Columbia and Puerto Rico. Additional officers elected were: Elliott Anderson as Deputy State Master Councilor, Keilen Frazier as State Senior Councilor, and Raice Hunter as State Junior Councilor. In addition to officer elections, the DeMolay chapters throughout the state conducted an initiation ceremony for their newest mem- ber, Kameron B. Robinson of Valley of the Cumberland Chapter as well as inducting Raice Hunter, Justin Kyle Jameson, Matthew Boyd, Cody Price and Shawn Salyers into the DeMolay Knighthood Priory. A basketball tournament consisting of both team and two-on-two competitions was also held. Chapters competing were: Cherokee Chapter (Louisville), Blue Grass Chapter (Lexington), Northern Kentucky Chapter (Covington), Lincoln Chapter (Hodgenville), Twin Lakes Chapter (Leitchfield), Heart of the Highlands Chapter (Paintsville), E.C. Nickles Chapter (Jackson) and Valley of the Cumberland (Columbia). The Celebration of DeMolay International’s 100th year continues throughout this year! DeMolay is an international leadership and character-building organization for young men between the ages of 12 and 21, with sev- eral local chapters in Kentucky.
