General Notes: Findagrave has birthdate as 5/27/1827 (tombstone too old to read date) and yet obit says 6/22/1829 findagrave: Charleston, MO Newspaper: Quoting from Mary Eliza Crane Hendrix Obituary: It is with sadness we are called upon to chronicle the death of Mrs. Mary Eliza Hendrix, who passed away Nov. 19, 1897, at the home of her son, James Hendrix, in Cedar Bluff township Ripley Co., this state. Sister Hendrix was born June 22nd 1829, in the state of Pennsylvania, making her a little over 68 years of age at the time of her death, at the age of 8 years she was brought by her parents to Tennessee, where they lived until 1868. Her maiden name was Mary Eliza Crane. She was united in marriage to William M. Hendrix, March 15, 1849, and by this union 8 children were born to them. They moved to Kentucky in 1868 and again to Missouri in 1882. 3 Produced by Legacy Descendants of Josiah M. CRANE She was converted very young and early attached herself to the Methodist church, living in that church for over 54 years. Her husband was called to his reward in 1890 and she was left to run the rest of her course alone. The life was a standing proof of the keeping power of the Son of God. She was esteemed and loved very highly by all who knew her, and although a sufferer for the last few years of her life, she tried to bear it with Christian fortitude. We do not feel called upon to weep over her departure for she has flown beyond pain and sorrow, to the haven of rest. Her grasp of her duty to God and man was not speculation, but real. She found her duty to her family and her neighbor by close communion with her God. Of her abundant entrance above, she felt secure and was ready and waiting for the summons from on high. Her children have lost their dearest and best earthly friend, but she has gained eternity.

Reviews of that time reveal an instant critical acclaim (Meyers), with British critic V.S. Pritchett stating that “I do not think I have ever read a novel more frightening and depressing; and yet, such are the originality, the suspense, the speed of writing and withering indignation that it is impossible to put the book down” (Pritchett). The New York Times review of 12th of June 1949 mentions that while “[it] is a great work of kinetic1 art,” it also “may mean that its greatness is only immediate, its power for us alone, now, in this generation, this decade, this year, that it is doomed to be the pawn of time.” Fortunately, this prophesy of immediate greatness has been firmly dismantled.

Have Gun Will Travel : The Complete Series Season One [commence paper Friday, May 19, 2017 at 3:33 p, PDT]: Just as I just completed yesterday on the Rawhide : The Complete Series two-part paper, I will revisit Have Gun Will Travel (HGWT). I already discussed HGWT is two separate papers. One entry starting on page 139 that I wrote in 1999 is here: http://www.filmscorerundowns.net/herrmann/cbs_years.pdf The next paper in 2006/2007 is here: http://www.filmscorerundowns.net/herrmann/havegunwilltravel.pdf This second (latter) paper covered in great detail Seasons 1 thru 3. At the time, only the first three seasons were available on dvd. Just recently I purchased The Complete Series that I received on I believe April 20, 2017. Now that I am finished with Rawhide, I can now devote time & energy on updating the information and add images to Seasons 1 thru 3, and also write a rundown of the rest of the series. So "New & Improved" papers on HGWT! OK. Let's start with the pilot episode, "Three Bells To Perdido" that aired on CBS September 14, 1957 (I was seven years old and watched the series way back then!). Note that according to CBS Memo papers, Herrmann's contract for HGWT was I believe January 18, 1957: 1 The following are dvd timings/locations from the Complete Series set: https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B01C6S1ZU2/ref=oh_aui_detailpage_o01_s00?ie= UTF8&psc=1 ****************** "Three Bells To Perdido" (9-14-1957) **** 4-star rating. B+ 2 00:01 thru 00:36 = M-11 "Main Title" Note that the handwriting is not Herrmann's.
