Previous meetings • The sides are meeting for the first time and this is Everton's first encounter with Swiss opponents. • YB's four previous games against English sides include two 2012/13 UEFA Europa League group stage matches against Everton's neighbours Liverpool FC – a 5-3 home defeat and a 2-2 draw on Merseyside. • Past results suggest this should be a high-scoring game; YB scored three goals in both of their previous home fixtures against English teams, but conceded seven in the course of those matches. Form guide • YB have won their last seven European home games since that loss to Liverpool in September 2012. This season, they have struck 13 goals and let in just one in their five UEFA Europa League matches in Berne. • YB last reached the round of 32 in 2010/11 when they bowed out to FC Zenit. They have not won a two-legged European tie in the springtime since the 1958/59 campaign, overcoming FC Wismut Aue en route to the European Champion Clubs' Cup semi-finals. • Everton are unbeaten away from home in Europe this term (W1 D2). • Everton lost out to Sporting Clube de Portugal in their last UEFA Europa League round of 32 assignment in 2009/10. They made it to the round of 16 in 2007/08, beating SK Brann 8-1 on aggregate in the last 32. Trivia and links • YB's Swiss international right-back Scott Sutter was born and raised in England, moving to Switzerland – his father's home country – in 2002. He was a childhood Tottenham Hotspur FC fan. • Everton defender Tony Hibbert turns 34 the day after the first leg against YB; team-mate Bryan Oviedo turns 25 the day before the match. • YB midfielder Moreno Costanzo also has a birthday the day after the game: he's 27 on 20 February. • Everton midfielder Gareth Barry will make his 50th UEFA club competition appearance if he plays against YB. • Young Boys are one of five sides to have advanced from the third qualifying round to the round of 32 along with Club Brugge KV, FC Dinamo Moskva, PSV Eindhoven and Torino FC. The coaches • A one-time central defender, Young Boys coach Uli Forte is enjoying his first foray in Europe. Having moved into coaching as player-manager at FC Red Star Zürich, he took charge of FC Wil 1900, FC St Gallen and Grasshopper Club Zürich before taking command at Young Boys in 2013. • Everton's attack-minded Spanish manager Roberto Martínez was a midfielder in the English lower leagues with the likes of Wigan Athletic FC and Swansea City AFC, and coached both clubs with notable success, winning the 2012/13 FA Cup with the Latics before being installed at Everton in June 2013. 3 BSC Young Boys - Everton FC Thursday 19 February 2015 - 19.00CET (19.00 local time) Match press kit Stade de Suisse, Berne Team facts BSC Young Boys Formed: 1898 Nickname: YB, Die Gelb-Schwarzen (Yellow and Blacks) UEFA club competition honours (runners-up in brackets) • none Domestic honours (most recent triumph in brackets) League title: 11 (1986) Swiss Cup: 6 (1987) Ten-year European record (UEFA Cup/UEFA Europa League unless indicated otherwise) 2013/14: did not take part in UEFA club competition 2012/13: group stage 2011/12: play-offs 2010/11: round of 32 (having transferred from UEFA Champions League play-offs) 2009/10: third qualifying round 2008/09: first round 2007/08: second qualifying round 2006/07: second qualifying round 2005/06: UEFA Intertoto Cup third round 2004/05: UEFA Champions League second qualifying round Records UEFA club competition • Biggest home win 5-0: Young Boys v ŠK Slovan Bratislava 18/09/14, UEFA Europa League group stage • Biggest away win 0-5: Limerick FC v Young Boys 31/08/60, European Champion Clubs' Cup preliminary round • Heaviest home defeat 0-5: Young Boys v Hamburger SV 02/11/60, European Champion Clubs' Cup first round first leg • Heaviest away defeat 6-0: FC Steaua Bucureşti v Young Boys 03/10/79, UEFA Cup Winners' Cup first round second leg UEFA Cup/UEFA Europa League • Biggest home win 5-0: Young Boys v ŠK Slovan Bratislava (see above) • Biggest away win 0-3: FC Midtjylland v Young Boys 23/08/12, play-off first leg • Heaviest home defeat 3-5: Young Boys v Liverpool FC 20/09/12, group stage 0-2: Young Boys v FC Midtjylland 30/08/12, play-off second leg • Heaviest away defeat 5-1: RC Lens v Young Boys 30/08/07, second qualifying round second leg Everton Formed: 1878 Nickname: The Toffees UEFA club competition honours (runners-up in brackets) • UEFA Cup Winners' Cup (1): 1985 4 BSC Young Boys - Everton FC Thursday 19 February 2015 - 19.00CET (19.00 local time) Match press kit Stade de Suisse, Berne Domestic honours (most recent triumph in brackets) League title: 9 (1987) FA Cup: 5 (1995) Ten-year European record (UEFA Europa League/UEFA Cup unless indicated otherwise) 2013/14: did not take part in UEFA club competition 2012/13: did not take part in UEFA club competition 2011/12: did not take part in UEFA club competition 2010/11: did not take part in UEFA club competition 2009/10: round of 32 2008/09: first round 2007/08: round of 16 2006/07: did not compete in UEFA club competition 2005/06: first round (having transferred from UEFA Champions League third qualifying round) 2004/05: did not take part in UEFA club competition 2003/04: did not take part in UEFA club competition Records UEFA club competition • Biggest home win 6-1: Everton v SK Brann 21/02/08, UEFA Cup round of 32 second leg 5-0: Everton v Finn Harps FC 26/09/78, UEFA Cup first round second leg • Biggest away win 0-5: Finn Harps FC v Everton 12/09/78, UEFA Cup first round first leg • Heaviest home defeat 0-2: Everton v SL Benfica 05/11/09, UEFA Europa League group stage • Heaviest away defeat 5-0: SL Benfica v Everton 22/10/09, UEFA Europa League group stage UEFA Cup/UEFA Europa League • Biggest home win 6-1: Everton v SK Brann (see above) 5-0: Everton v Finn Harps FC (see above) • Biggest away win 0-5: Finn Harps FC v Everton (see above) • Heaviest home defeat 0-2: Everton v SL Benfica (see above) • Heaviest away defeat 5-0: SL Benfica v Everton (see above) 5 BSC Young Boys - Everton FC Thursday 19 February 2015 - 19.00CET (19.00 local time) Match press kit Stade de Suisse, Berne Squad list BSC Young Boys Current season All-time QUAL UEL League UEL UEFA No. Player Nat.
