Designed for Speed : Three Automobiles by Ferrari
Designed for speed : three automobiles by Ferrari Date 1993 Publisher The Museum of Modern Art Exhibition URL www.moma.org/calendar/exhibitions/411 The Museum of Modern Art's exhibition history— from our founding in 1929 to the present—is available online. It includes exhibition catalogues, primary documents, installation views, and an index of participating artists. MoMA © 2017 The Museum of Modern Art * - . i . ' ' y ' . Designed for Speed: Three Automobiles by Ferrari k \ ' . r- ; / THE MUSEUM OF MODERN ART, NEW YORK The nearer the automobile approaches its utilitarian ends, the more beautiful it becomes. That is, when the vertical lines (which contrary to its purpose) dominated at its debut, it was ugly, and people kept buying horses. Cars were known as "horseless carriages." The necessity of speed lowered and elongated the car so that the horizontal lines, balanced by the curves, dominated: it became a perfect whole, logically organized for its purpose, and it was beautiful. —Fernand Leger "Aesthetics of the Machine: The Manufactured Object, The Artisan, and the Artist," 1924 M Migh-performance sports and racing cars represent some of the ultimate achievements of one of the world's largest industries. Few objects inspire such longing and acute fascination. As the French critic and theorist Roland Barthes observed, "I think that cars today are almost the exact equiv alent of the great Gothic cathedrals: I mean the supreme creation of an era, conceived with passion by unknown artists, and consumed in image if not in usage by a whole population which appropriates them as a purely magical object." Unlike most machines, which often seem to have an antagonistic relationship with people, these are intentionally designed for improved handling, and the refinement of the association between man and machine. -

IMPORTANT SAFETY RECALL INFORMATION August 5, 2015
IMPORTANT SAFETY RECALL INFORMATION August 5, 2015 Dear Ferrari Client, We wanted to inform you that you will be receiving a letter from Ferrari North America, Inc. shortly concerning a recall on your 2015 Ferrari vehicle. Ferrari has decided that certain Model Year 2015 Ferrari 458 Italia, 458 Spider, 458 Speciale, 458 Speciale A, California T, FF, F12 Berlinetta and LaFerrari vehicles may have a Driver’s Side Air Bag Module that could possibly deploy in a rotated orientation due to a Driver’s Side Air Bag Module that was an improperly assembled. We want to assure you that your safety is our priority, and we are committed to correcting this condition in your vehicle. Your vehicle may have been fitted with a Driver’s Side Air Bag Module that was improperly assembled by the Air Bag supplier. This is due to a combination of insufficient gluing of the leather skin of the Driver’s Air Bag module cover to the plastic base and improperly rotated orientation of the cushion during the manufacturing process. This safety defect could increase the risk of occupant injuries or death in the event of a front or rear collision. Ferrari will of course repair your vehicle free of charge. The repair involves replacing the Driver’s Side Air Bag Module. When you receive your letter, please contact your local authorized Ferrari dealer and make an appointment to have this repair performed. The time needed for this repair is estimated to be 1 hour; however, your dealer may need to keep your vehicle for a longer period of time due to scheduling needs at the dealership. -

Although this is a highly debatable question, few automoti- ve enthusiasts will disagree when it comes to the Ferrari F40. This thoroughbred from Ma- ranello's finest stable incorporates everything needed to be a true 'supercar', and more. Built to celebrate the marque's 40th anniversary, the F40 was a development of the 288 GTO. Whereas the GTO's looks are understated, the F40's curvaceous body and huge re- ar wing just scream performance. Penned by Pininfarina, the F40 shares some design e- lements with the 288 GTO Evoluzione race car. ____________________________________________________ This car is offered exclusively through Jan B. The chassis consists of a composite central section with steel tubular space frames on either end to support the suspension. This setup offers a good balance between light weight and rigidity. Suspension is by double wishbones all- round, helped by coil springs over dampers and an anti-roll bar fore and aft. -
2010 Ferrari 458 Italia January, 2010 by Joe Dematio Photography by Mark Bramley
REVIEWS: Driven: 2010 Ferrari 458 Italia January, 2010 By Joe DeMatio Photography by Mark Bramley There didn't seem to be a lot more that Ferrari could do with its V-8 berlinetta lineup. Over the past decade, the cars got better and better, further cementing Ferrari's role as the producer of the world's most desirable sports cars. The startlingly good 360 Modena began it all back in 1999, and each successive iteration of the mid-engine masterpiece from Maranello raised the bar: The 360 Challenge Stradale. The F430. The 430 Scuderia. And, most recently, the hyperfocused Scuderia Spider 16M. These cars became the backbone of Ferrari's resurgence by translating the automaker's hard-fought Formula 1 racing expertise into products that tantalized auto enthusiasts everywhere, rewarded the lucky few who owned them, and strengthened the ethereal aura around the brand. Ferrari created the gold standard in sports cars, a lineup that competitors as varied as the Ford GT, the Chevrolet Corvette ZR1, the Lamborghini Gallardo, the Porsche 911 GT3, and the Aston Martin V8 Vantage sought to assail. But in the tussle for sports car supremacy, Ferrari always managed to end up at the top of the heap. With leadership comes responsibility, but it also can bring vulnerability. When it came time to replace the F430, would Ferrari succumb to success, throw up its collective hands, and decide that a mild refresh would do? After all, if any automaker today were to unveil a car that is as good as the F430 was five years ago, the car would be declared a champion.
