Ferrari has decided that certain Model Year 2015 Ferrari 458 Italia, 458 Spider, 458 Speciale, 458 Speciale A, California T, FF, F12 Berlinetta and LaFerrari vehicles may have a Driver’s Side Air Bag Module that could possibly deploy in a rotated orientation due to a Driver’s Side Air Bag Module that was an improperly assembled. We want to assure you that your safety is our priority, and we are committed to correcting this condition in your vehicle. Your vehicle may have been fitted with a Driver’s Side Air Bag Module that was improperly assembled by the Air Bag supplier. This is due to a combination of insufficient gluing of the leather skin of the Driver’s Air Bag module cover to the plastic base and improperly rotated orientation of the cushion during the manufacturing process. This safety defect could increase the risk of occupant injuries or death in the event of a front or rear collision. Ferrari will of course repair your vehicle free of charge. The repair involves replacing the Driver’s Side Air Bag Module. When you receive your letter, please contact your local authorized Ferrari dealer and make an appointment to have this repair performed. The time needed for this repair is estimated to be 1 hour; however, your dealer may need to keep your vehicle for a longer period of time due to scheduling needs at the dealership.

Over the past decade, the cars got better and better, further cementing Ferrari's role as the producer of the world's most desirable sports cars. The startlingly good 360 Modena began it all back in 1999, and each successive iteration of the mid-engine masterpiece from Maranello raised the bar: The 360 Challenge Stradale. The F430. The 430 Scuderia. And, most recently, the hyperfocused Scuderia Spider 16M. These cars became the backbone of Ferrari's resurgence by translating the automaker's hard-fought Formula 1 racing expertise into products that tantalized auto enthusiasts everywhere, rewarded the lucky few who owned them, and strengthened the ethereal aura around the brand. Ferrari created the gold standard in sports cars, a lineup that competitors as varied as the Ford GT, the Chevrolet Corvette ZR1, the Lamborghini Gallardo, the Porsche 911 GT3, and the Aston Martin V8 Vantage sought to assail. But in the tussle for sports car supremacy, Ferrari always managed to end up at the top of the heap. With leadership comes responsibility, but it also can bring vulnerability. October 2011 BY DANIEL PUND Despite some compelling evidence to the contrary, the Ferrari 458 Spider is not perfect. For example, some people believe that certain details of the design, such as the flat nose or three-pipe exhaust or staircase of LEDs in the headlamp clusters, are weird or ugly. But those are matters of taste, and those people are clearly wrong. Also, Ferrari offers no manual transmission in the 458, spider or coupe. We’re a bit more inclined to take that complaint seriously. And then there’s this: During our first drive of the new 458 Spider on an autostrada near Bologna, Italy, we followed another writer who was driving a pearlescent white 458 Spider doing its best Buick Lucerne imitation, right-turn indicator blinking for about five miles. We pretended for a moment or two that this might have been the writer/journalist signaling to other motorists that they were right to think of Ferrari drivers as doofuses not worthy of such a car. But we knew it was the fault of the driver's unfamiliarity with the car's odd steering-wheel-mounted turn- signal buttons. In Ferrari’s zeal to locate pretty much every control away from the car’s column-mounted shift paddles, the signals—controlled by a stalk in just about every other car ever built—are now actuated by buttons on the steering wheel. Covered in knobs and buttons and blinking lights, the wheel looks like what you’d find in a Formula 1 car, or like a dinner plate covered in knobs, buttons, and switches.

BY AARON ROBINSON, PHOTOGRAPHY BY MATTHIAS KNOEDLER AND KGP PHOTOGRAPHY AND THE MANUFACTURER November 2009 Ferrari’s storied Fiorano test track in Maranello, Italy, is a special place. It's even more so when we get to experience it in the 2010 Ferrari 458 Italia, the company’s latest sports car. Today, Ferrari test driver Raffaele De Simone is making Fiorano look easy. All it takes to master the 1.85-mile circuit in the Italia is two light palms, one steady foot, and a strict diet of Muslix and fresh fruit. Or so it seems from the passenger seat as the rail-thin De Simone thrusts and slides the 458 through Fiorano’s curves and hairpins in a ballet of bawling rubber. After three laps, much of which are sideways, De Simone climbs out and beckons us to the driver’s seat, then walks away. We’re on our own, even though about five years ago, a certain Car and Driver personality introduced a new Ferrari to a wall on a similar day not far from this very spot. Don’t these people learn? The Feel Turns out, driving the 458 quickly is practically effortless, like strapping on parabolic skis or doing square roots with a calculator. With an 11.5:1 ratio, the steering is unbelievably quick and surprisingly light, as though the front axle is barely touching the ground. Still, the grip is tenacious, the turn-in to a corner so fierce and direct that you’ll swear it has a rudder tilling the asphalt.
