16 | FY2018 NURSING REPORT Nursing Education Makes a Splash at the Clinical Practice Guidelines Fair

he Nursing Practice Council at MedStar Southern Maryland Hospital Center (MSMHC) hosted a fair to educate associates on clinical practice Tguidelines. Informative displays around the multipurpose room showed information about pain management, CAUTI prevention, pulse oximetry, fall prevention, delirium in the ICU, morbid obesity, palliative and end of life care, and CLABSI prevention. The hazardous drugs section, for instance, included answers to questions such as what medications are considered hazardous drugs, what personal protective equipment is necessary when dealing with high risk drugs and how to handle the linens of patients on hazardous drugs. The nurse to nurse bedside report display, as another example, included the definition and benefits of the report, an explanation of the patient’s role, and the proper SBAR format of the bedside report.

Attendees who filled out a sheet about the presented information were put into a drawing to win a beach-themed gift of chairs, towels, beach bags, toys and inflatables.
