Navaratri Aaradhana (Worship) Sri Sakthi Amma’s Navaratri Aaradhana (Worship) 10-day spiritual worship Online 8pm - 8.15pm IST 17– 26 October 2020 Program Summary: Through the Grace and Blessings of Sri Sakthi AMMA, devotees have the opportunity to join Beloved AMMA for the ‘Navaratri Aaradhana’, online October 17-26 . “Nava” means ‘nine’, “arthri” means ‘night’ and “Aaradhana” means ‘worship’. The 9 nights of worship celebrate the Divine Mother and Her battle with and subsequent vanquishing of the Asuras (demons). This victory day is known as “Vijaya Dasami” and is celebrated on day 10. Each evening we will join Beloved AMMA online via zoom to receive darshan (blessings through viewing) of AMMA performing Samara Seva (offering of fan and chanting Sri Suktam) to Sri Narayani Devi in the Big Narayani temple, 8pm-8.15pm. Already Sri Narayani is very energised, but when Beloved AMMA performs these offerings to Sri Narayani, this Devi has been seen to ‘come alive’ for the Devotees, Her face smiling and lotus eyes sparkling bestowing blessings. This is because Beloved Sri Sakthi AMMA is Narayani, and Her consciousness fills the space and enlivens Sri Narayani even more! Each evening we will receive the Grace and Blessing of Sri Sakthi AMMA Narayani Devi to overcome our inner negativity or the ‘demons’ of lust, greed, anger, jealousy, ignorance, attachment, distorted thinking, arrogance, poor self-esteem, doubt and fear…and emerge victorious! JAI MAA! We will celebrate the Devi in various forms, all who emanate from the same source, Sri Narayani Devi. Just as the different seeds sown in the same soil, can produce different plants, the different aspects of Narayani will be expressed during the Navaratri period, to bestow the various blessings. We will pray to the following expressions of Sri Narayani Devi. 17.10.20 Sri Dhanalakshmi Blessings of wealth and prosperity 18.10.20 Sri Matangi Blessings of wisdom 19.10.20 Sri Varahi Blessings to remove fear and bring inner strength 20.10.20 Sri Kamakshi Blessings for reasonable desires and to remove unwanted desire and greed 21.10.20 Sri Meenakshi Blessings of inner strength and peace 22.10.20 Sri Visalakshi Blessings of wisdom 23.10.20 Sri Karumari Blessings from Nature – to bring the rain etc 24.10.20 Sri Gayatri Blessings of material and spiritual 25.10.20 Sri Saraswati Blessing of wisdom 26.10.20 Sri Kali Blessing of protection, inner strength and wisdom About Navaratri This celebration of the Devi’s victory centres around Durga’s slaying of the demon Mahishasura. Durga Devi is the form of Narayani who represents the energy of strength, courage and the capacity to dispel the darkness. We will pray to Mother Durga to destroy our inner negativity. We will pray to Goddess Lakshmi for the wealth to live a happy and prosperous life. Will pray to Goddess Saraswati to bless us with the wisdom to use strength and wealth for the benefit of all. “If someone has wisdom, wealth and strength, the wisdom brings the capacity for one to utilize their wealth and strength in proper ways. So in this way, one can finally achieve victory in life. You know, if you miss any one of these three things in your life, then there is no point in having the other two at all.” Sri Sakthi AMMA For thousands of years Navaratri has been celebrated at this particular time of the year (Sept/Oct). In Sanskrit this time is known as 'Sharad Chandra Kaala'. It is during this period that we are most receptive the Devi’s blessings. This is because we are one with Nature and Nature is most in balance at this time. The seasonal weather patterns reflect this globally. So too, our bodies, minds, energy field and breath become balanced and receptive during this period. This makes Navaratri one of the most auspicious and powerful times of the year to receive Devi’s grace. About Amma Sri Sakthi AMMA is the Avatar of theGoddess Narayani. • Kali Stotram Herself
“The mind can disentangle itself from worldliness if, through Her grace, She makes it turn toward Kali Stotram Herself. Only then does it become devoted to the lotus feet of the Divine Mother.” Hymns to Goddess Kali ~ Sri Ramakrishna Paramahamsa In India there has been an unbroken tradition of worshiping God in the form of the Divine Mother Kali for many thousands of years. Kali is She from whom all are born and into whom all must eventually return. She is the ultimate power of creation and destruction, and pervades every aspect of the universe. While Her iconography and mythology have deep mystical and symbolic meaning, Her essence is simple: transformation. Loving Her transforms our lives. She annihilates limitations, purifies hearts, fills lives with joy and protects Her children in ways understandable only to those who worship and depend on Her. Kali is the Goddess of the Tantric tradition, which is characterized by dynamic spiritual practices aimed at transforming consciousness. Primary among these is the devotional recitation of mantras and hymns. Chanting gives expression to the heart’s innate longing for the Divine while awakening subtle energies within the body and mind. This collection of rare hymns to Goddess Kali is being made available with the prayer that they will be approached with humility, devotion, and unselfishness. Translated by Swami Bhajanananda Saraswati © 2012 Kali Mandir www.kalimandir.org Gayatri Mantra for Goddess Kali Meditation on Dakshina Kali This meditation mantra is found in Kali Tantra and Tanta Sara. Dhyana mantras are recited to sonically invoke and mentally visualize the subtle forms of deities before meditation and worship.

  • Sapta Matrikas in Indian Art and Their Significance in Indian Sculpture and Ethos: a Critical Study
Anistoriton, vol. 9, March 2005, section A051 1 SAPTA MATRIKAS IN INDIAN ART AND THEIR SIGNIFICANCE IN INDIAN SCULPTURE AND ETHOS: A CRITICAL STUDY Meghali Goswami, Dr.Ila Gupta, Dr.P.Jha Indian Institute of Technology Roorkee, INDIA This paper focuses on the study of ancient Indian sculptures of seven mother goddesses called Sapta Matrikas, and brings out their distinctive features as conceived by the master sculptures of different periods. It also explains their importance in Indian art and cultural ethos. Introduction The seven mother goddesses are: Brahamani, Vaishnavi, Maheshwari, Kaumari, Varahi, Indrani and Chamunda.Their description in ancient Puranas, such as Varaha Purana, Matsya Purana, Markandeya Purana etc refers to their antiquity. Each of the mother goddesses (except for Chamunda) had come to take her name from a particular God: Brahamani form Brahma, Vaishnavi from Vishnu, Maheswari from Shiva, Kaumari from Skanda, Varahi from Varaha and Indrani from Indra1.They are armed with the same weapons, wears the same ornaments and rides the same vahanas and also carries the same banners like their corresponding male Gods do. The earliest reference of Sapta Matrika is found in Markandeya Purana and V.S Agarwalla dates it to 400 A.D to 600 A.D Mythology There are different Puranic versions related to the origin of Matrikas. According to Puranic myths Matrikas are Shakti of Shiva,Indra and other gods and they are goddesses of the battlefield. But in the sculptural portrayals, they are depicted differently as benevolent, compassionate and aristocratic mothers. It is said that the Sapta-Matrikas are connected with Shiva.
