2011 CHRISTMAS PROGRAMMING ON RADIO 2

Saturday, December 24

4 pm A Very Deep Roots Christmas This is a celebration not just of folky Christmas music, but the singing that happens around Christmas - I'm talking late in the night when the guitars come out, or doing the dishes and singing along to a country song on the radio. We'll play some Holiday Roots Favourites but also just a couple of old songs the whole family can sing along to.

6 pm Saturday Night Blues Holiday Special

7 pm A King’s Christmas A King’s Christmas is now a holiday tradition for many Nova Scotians. Under the direction of multi Grammy award winner Paul Halley, A King’s Christmas presents a seasonal feast of song from All Saints Cathedral in Halifax. You’ll hear the King’s College Chapel choir perform hymns, chants, and original pieces and arrangements created just for this special occasion.

8 pm Snow Angel This year Lady Cove casts its eyes to the heavens for the theme of their Christmas special and focuses on all that is angelic. Cherubic voices are in attendance to read the narration for Sarah Quartel's "Snow Angel" and Lady Cove's all-female throng sprinkles angel dust on a mix of ethereal and popular classics.

9 pm A Very Foggy Christmas Believe it or not, Toronto boasts a bustling bluegrass scene of surprisingly young, dedicated and hot (in a virtuosic way) players. Leading the way for most of the last decade has been a smokin' five-piece known as The Foggy Hogtown Boys. In this concert they set the city’s number one roots venue, Hugh’s Room, ablaze with seasonal spirit - not to mention fiery pickin’ and fiddlin’. Joining this holiday joyride is very special guest, singer/songwriter Oh Susanna.

10 pm Christmas with The Sojourners Nothing speaks to the holidays like the deep rich sound of Gospel music in three part harmony. The based vocal group The Sojourners are among the best. Will Sanders, Ron Small and Marcus Mosely each have almost 50 years of singing and sharing music under their belts.

11 pm O Soulful Night After the kids are in bed and the presents have been opened, join host Nana Aba Duncan as she plays an hour of the best Soul and R&B tunes for the holiday season. You'll hear classics from Stevie Wonder, The Staple Singers and James Brown, along with Canadian soul stars Jully Black, Jacksoul and In Essence.
