The improvement of education depends not only upon professional and board of education competence but also upon the degree to which people be­ come aware of need and are able to interpret and are willing to accept the recommendations for improvements. These school districts have considered building programs for the 1967-68 school year and would have to increase taxes in order to provide an increased number of classrooms. If remaining independent, many of the existing elemen­ tary school districts will have to increase taxes because of building INTRODUCTION programs and/or operational cost increases. It is therefore impossible to project the exact mill rate effect that the Bureau's recommendations would have upon the taxpayers in each of the existing elementary school districts. Even though exact figures are impossible it is possible to project approximate mill rates. These approximations are based on the mill rate set at each school district's 1966 annual meeting. FINANCING THE PROPOSED DISTRICT AND IT'S BUILDING PROGRAM In February of 1966, the Wisconsin State Department of Public Instruction presented a 1965-66 comparison of actual aid receipts for ----1-- the survey area schools with receipts that would have been received I I I I under the authority of a reorganized district. The report indicated that II the reorganized district would have resulted in an additional $220,290 I I for the area in state aids. I I :I At the time the Department of Public Instruction made its stUdy, the guaranteed evaluation behind each child in average daily member­ ship was $34,000. When one applies the present $38,000 per pupil guaranteed evaluation to the area's 1965-66 state aid computation, one discovers an additionalincrease of$50,747.46 in state aids ($271,037.46), The increase in 1966-67 enrollments and the projected increase in enrollments clearly indicates that the survey area, by reorganizing as recommended, will stand to annually gain in state aids each year. One can safely state that the survey area will receive at least ~300,000 more in state aids per year by reorganizing. The passing by the State Legislature of one of the present bills proposingthat guaranteed evalua­ tion surpass $40,000 per pupil would tend to give additional state aids to the reorganized survey area. It will be necessary for the reorganized school district to issue I bonds to cover the cost of the recommended junior high addition to the I present high school. The cost for the school addition is estimated at I $956,536. I I The annual payment on a bond issue of $960,000 for 20 years at an I interest rate of 4 per cent, assuming all annual payments will be equal, L.r---'-------, I I would amount to annual principal and interest payments of $70,656. I Zl~ I The annual repayment based upon an equalized valuation of I ~I~ ~ ~ -SCHOOL OISTRICT I I BOUNDARY I $51,745,516 would result in a mill levy of 1.36545. An additional $1,000,000 in equalized valuation, for example, would reduce the bond repayment mill levy rate to 1.33956 mills.

  • The Gymnasium Building Mooresville, Indiana
    The Gymnasium Building Mooresville, Indiana In 1996, the Save the Newby Gym Committee was formed to raise money to repair the aging building. The committee was comprised of junior basketball league officers, school administrators, and civic leaders, some of whom had played on the Newby court during their high school athletic careers. The committee worked from 1996 until renovations were completed in the fall of 1999. A grant from the Lilly Endowment in the amount of $77,150 was presented to the committee in 1997. These funds, along with other money raised by the committee through donations and fundraising efforts, allowed for the much needed repairs to the facility. These repairs included; improving the structural integrity of the north wall, building and painting bleachers for the north side of the gym, replacing all of the windows, replacing the entire floor, and the installation of a handicapped accessible bathroom – not to mention evicting numerous bats that had made the Newby Gym their home. The renovated gym was reded- icated on September 11, 1999.     OECD - Innovative Learning Environment Project Universe Case Czech Republic Gymnasium "Prirodni skola" This (state-subsidized private) school for students aged 12 to 20, is specialized in science; students need to pass an entrance exam before inscribing. The objective of the school is to allow children to work independently under the provision of relevant short-term feedback on their decisions. The curriculum of most subjects is divided into study requirements that students must meet within three-month periods by delivering different proofs of knowledge (e.g., presentations, portfolios). Students can direct their course of education both by deciding when to fulfil given requirements, and by choosing among different requirements in some subjects. With very high rates of literacy and strong performance in math and science on international comparisons of educational achievement, the Czechs are poised to become a increasingly competitive force within the EU. Yet, their education system is still in transition. Despite significant reforms aimed at moving away from communist-style central management, the Czechs are still struggling to modernize to keep pace with the rest of the EU and the demands of a global economy. Jana Straková, Institute of Sociology, Academy of Sciences of the Czech Republic and Institute for Information on Education, [email protected] Abstract Many studies show that one of the most important factors related to delivering equity in education is the design of education system, its differentiation, and the age at the time of the first selection. In a system in which early self-selection is constrained by the choice structure there is less educational inequality than in a system where consequential decisions about the educational career are taken at a very young age. On that account, grouping according to student performance has been one of the most controversial issues in education for more than 80 years. Its effects, particularly on student achievement, have been extensively studied over that time period, mainly in United States and Great Britain. In the Czech Republic tracking is very extensive and starts from very young age. In all international comparative studies of student achievement the Czech Republic exhibits a relatively strong relationship between student achievement and family background. National analyses show high differences between achievement and social composition of students in individual tracks. In last decade the differentiation of Czech education system at the primary and lower secondary level has been escalating. The data from the IEA TIMSS study show that the growing differentiation of educational pathways leads to the growing differentiation of student achievement and learning experience of students in various schools and tracks.

This study’s key objective was to determine how best to utilize the existing assets within the District to roll out the FDK program without redistricting and causing the least impact on existing educational programs such as Art, Music, STEAM, and Language programs. Dore & Whittier’s primary scope included the following: • Review all prior studies and background information for the FDK program. • Analyze the program needs with the NPS staff and Principals from each elementary school and assess how the kindergarten students could best be accommodated at each school. Identify the size of the existing Kindergarten rooms including bathrooms and storage, and the programmatic needs of the additional Kindergarten rooms. • Identify the rooms that will be available once KASE moves out and determine how they might be repurposed.
