John 13:34

A new commandment I give to you, that you love one another; as I have loved you, that you also love one another. By this all will know that you are My disciples, if you have love for one another.

FA Knight News by Mrs. Byler

May - the last month of school. First let us praise God that this year we had an April and May of school. All the sports are over for the year. There are just a couple of weeks of new instruction for second- ary students. Then final exam reviews begin followed by the half days of taking those final exams.

Elementary remains in full swing of learning up until the last day which is Wednesday, May 26. Of course, there will be the traditional field days of fun competition between the elementary students. New this year will be the kick off of the Relationships Through Faith (RTF). Although scheduled to begin dur- ing this school year, we accept the change to begin in 21-22 as God’s perfect timing.

Friday, May 21 beginning with a pep rally at 2:30, the RTF program will be a high light of the Blue

Bowl. So, what’s the Blue Bowl? It is an end of school tradition of various competitions between the high school grades. Freshmen compete against Seniors; Sophomores compete against Juniors and all the varia- tions allowing each class to compete against each other. Through volleyball, kickball and some new addi- tions this year, the class with the most wins is declared the champion of this year receiving the “Blue

Bowl.”

As a part of the afternoon and evening this year, the pairing of high school classes with elementary classes will be the kickoff of the Relationships Through Faith. Then in the 21-22 school year the high school students of each class will visit their elementary counterparts throughout the year. The objective ?

The objective is to build “relationships through faith.” The hope is that as our high school students mature in their faith in Christ Jesus they will simply spend time with elementary students and build relationships in which that faith in Christ is shared.

Also, May will be a month of awards. The Academy Awards scheduled for Monday, May 17 at 6 PM was founded on the theme of theater’s Academy Awards complete with a meal, spotlights, red carpet and golden envelops revealing the top academic award winners of high school students. There will be other awards featuring elementary and junior high. Stay tuned for more May fun.

THE POWER OF FAMILY PRAYER

On a small ranch in Wyoming a man went out to protect his cattle from an approaching tornado as his wife and child looked on. With a sudden turn, the tornado moved directly toward him. His wife excitedly turned to their son and said, “Johnny, quick! Get on your knees and pray!” Johnny instantly fell to his knees and began to say: “Now I lay me down to sleep…” It was the only thing he had ever said to God!

This fictitious story reminds us of the importance of teaching our children to pray. Without proper understand- ing, they cannot pray effectively. Many of them learn to recite a model, but don’t comprehend how to communi- cate with Jesus Christ. We need to help them realize that God desires a relationship with them.

Relationship is the core of effective prayer. Each of us has been given the ability to come before God’s throne of grace (Hebrews 4:16) at any time to communicate with our Creator. This is one of the truths that makes our faith unique, but it can be difficult for young minds to grasp. On an earthly level, we are not accustomed to this kind of unlimited access to those in authority, but God is different. We can approach Him in an instant. He wants to hear from us and is pleased when we call! He will never put us “on hold,” tell us He will respond later, take His “phone” off the hook or let an answering machine take our message.

Jesus Christ wants a relationship with us that is built on time spent in His presence and through reading His Word. On a personal level, we can speak to Him about anything and everything. And yet, although prayer is simple, its principles must be learned. Even the disciples asked their Master to teach them to pray.

There is no underestimating the importance of prayer in a family and its influence in the lives of young children. I feel this very strongly because it was so decidedly absent from my own early childhood experience. The little girl that I once was grew up in a troubled home where daily prayers were unknown and the sounds of joyful praise were never heard. I’m aware of what family-centered spiritual training can mean to a child because I “discovered” it for myself when I was about eight years old. What a contrast to the rich spiritual heritage of my husband’s family! He has often told me how his grandmother used to gather the six children around her for daily devotions. She prayed, “Lord, it is my most urgent request that each of these children will come to know You personally. If one of them fails to make that commitment, it would have been better that I never had been born.” This is the priority she gave to her spiritual responsibility. Her prayers made such an impression on Jim’s dad that he referred to them throughout his life. This is the example our children need to see in us. But it is more than a model. Prayer and reverence for God must permeate every aspect of our lives and become a natural part of our family life. These are things that God has commanded us to do as parents (Deuteronomy 6:6-9). It was that com- mandment that led to the preparation of this guide. I pray it will be a rich blessing to your family. As you read through each section, remember to seek the Lord’s guidance and wisdom. The more you learn about prayer, the more sensitive you will become to His power working in your family. I am certain that God will bless your efforts!

Visiting the San Felipe de Austin State Historic Site on Wednesday, April 14, 2021, were 18 sixth graders

from Faith Academy of Bellville, accompanied by 10 staff and parents. It did not take the FA bus 30 minutes to arrive at the location where, in 1824 Stephen F. Austin established a colony along the banks of the Brazos River in what would become Austin County, Texas. While the town of San Felipe today may not appear to be a bus- tling business metropolis, back in the 1830s, San Felipe de Austin was the social, economic and political center of Texas before its independence from Mexico.

The museum contains an array of artifacts and historical memorabilia. Students were able to view two films that depicted the early days of San Felipe, including the devastating decision to burn the town rather than allow the advancing Mexican army to occupy the thriving community. Students enjoyed the interactive displays that allowed them to feel as though they were actually in the heart of the town. They enjoyed viewing Stephen F. Austin’s actual traveling desk; learned how land was surveyed and measured with chains; and viewed how money was ‘divided’ or ‘cut’. The students were amazed at the size of a replica cabin where a family of four lived with no privacy! They were able to touch and feel clothing that might have been worn by children their ages. They were able to vote whether they would have wanted to burn the town. They viewed bits and pieces of housewares that have been unearthed around the grounds of the museum. They learned of current archeo- logical digs and walked the paths around the museum that mark locations of businesses and establishment back in the 1830s. While the recreated village is not yet open to the public, the students were able to see the log cabins and brick ovens that are currently being built on the grounds that will soon be open to public view- ing. During their lunch break, they entertained themselves with an assortment of wooden toys and games that were popular with boys and girls of that time period!

The group then travelled back to Bellville to spend an interesting hour with Cowboy Szymanski, owner of Phenix Knives. Cowboy is the owner and well-known bladesmith that participated in the first season of Forged in Fire, a reality show on the History Channel. Cowboy mesmerized the students with his show and tell presentation of taking a rod of steel and creating a head of a longhorn while the students watched and listened to his interesting presentation. The stu- dents were able to view the many knives and sabers that he has crafted from the antique tools of his trade. The visit to the blacksmith shop tied in perfectly with the prior tour of San Felipe de Austin, where students viewed cutlery, hand tools, square nails, metal pots and pans as well as horse shoes, all necessities of the early Texas settlers.

From Mrs. Dawson…...

Donuts, coffee, and dads, oh my! With great pleasure the 4th grade class welcomed their dads to school last Friday for Donuts with Dad. This was such a special time for the students to honor their dads and uncles and thank them for all they do for us. After enjoying the donuts and kolaches, the 4th graders provided some entertainment by sharing some "dad jokes" with their dads and performing a skit. "Honor your father and mother, so that you may live long in the land the LORD your God is giving you." Exodus 20:12 This verse was quot- ed in our skit with the question, "How do we honor our dads?" The students answered this question all on their own as I watched them serve their dads- letting them go first in line, carrying their plates and drinks, and showing them to their seats. To end our time together, the 4th graders presented their dads with a handcrafted booklet containing some favorite memories, special "Dad coupons," and a letter thanking their dads for teaching and leading them to God. We are so thankful for our dads and grateful that we had the opportunity to put a pause on our daily life to honor and thank those that are important to us.

Kaleb Jacobs & dad From Miss Guardia…….Elementary Fair

The Faith Academy 4th and 5th grade students recently hosted an economics and business fair. This past school year, the 4th and 5th graders completed the Kingdom Code Kids economics curriculum as a part of Miss Guardia’s social studies classes, and have learned about what it means to be an entrepreneur. They have explored what it means to make and spend money “God’s way,” and that the Lord wants us all to be good stewards of our money and our resources.

Their business plans were based on providing products or services that would enrich their communities in some way. During the process of learning about making business plans, planning a budget, and understanding personal finance and marketing strategies, these students used what they learned to create their own mock businesses. They also created an ad- vertising plan, and even samples of the products or services they offered.

Altogether, 20 different businesses were presented for their teachers, fellow elementary students, and families. From lawn care to babysitting, barbeque stands to clothing and accessories for pets, bakery food trucks, mobile art classes and many fun and interesting businesses were presented to the community! By having fun with economics, and exploring the benefits of free market enterprise these students are learning to become fiscally responsible. Hopefully, we can continue to encourage our students to become entrepreneurs who take pride in serv- ing their communities and serving the Lord.
