New island record On 6 October 1995, Hawaii Department of Land and Natural Resources, Division of Forestry and Wildlife employee C. Joao submitted an unusual plant he found while work- ing in the Molokai Forest Reserve. The plant was identified as U. europaeus and con- firmed by a Hawaii Department of Agriculture (HDOA) nox-A survey of the site on 9 October revealed an infestation of ca. 19 m2 at about 457 m elevation in the Kamiloa Distr., ca. 6.2 km above Kamehameha Highway. W. Brown & K. Nishida Abstract Acleris nishidai Brown, sp. n., is described and illustrated from the central cordillera of Costa Rica. The new species is assigned to Acleris Hübner, [1825] on the basis of the similarity of the male genitalia with other described species of the genus. The female genitalia are relatively modified and lack the pronounced lateral lobes of the sterigma characteristic of most Acleris. Abstract Additions, deletions and corrections are made to the Irish checklist of butterflies and moths (Lepidoptera). Elachista biatomella (Stainton, 1848) is added to the Irish list. The total number of confirmed Irish species of Lepidoptera now stands at 1480. Key words: Lepidoptera, additions, deletions, corrections, Irish list, Elachista biatomella Introduction Bond, Nash and O’Connor (2006) provided a checklist of the Irish Lepidoptera. Since its publication, many new discoveries have been made and are reported here. In addition, several deletions have been made. A concise and updated checklist is provided. The following abbreviations are used in the text: BM(NH) – The Natural History Museum, London; NMINH – National Museum of Ireland, Natural History, Dublin. The total number of confirmed Irish species now stands at 1480, an addition of 68 since Bond et al. (2006). Taxonomic arrangement As a result of recent systematic research, it has been necessary to replace the arrangement familiar to British and Irish Lepidopterists by the Fauna Europaea [FE] system used by Karsholt 60 Bulletin of the Irish Biogeographical Society No. 36 (2012) and Razowski, which is widely used in continental Europe. -

Pooni Department of Zoology, Punjabi University, Patiala, Punjab 147002, India E-mail: [email protected] ABSTRACT Sixteen species belonging to eleven genera viz., Rhopobota Lederer, Acroclita Lederer, Strepsicrates Meyrick, Gibberifera Obraztsov, Loboschiza Diakonoff, Crocidosema Zeller, Epinotia Hübner, Helictophanes Meyrick, Acanthoclita Diakonoff, Ancylis Hübner and Eucosma Hübner belonging to the tribe Eusosmini (Olethreutinae) of the family Tortricidae have been collected from northwestern India and dealt with taxonomically. Key to the presently examined genera has been prepared on the basis of characters such as the labial palpi, antennae, costal fold, anal fold, wing venation and male and female genitalic characteristics. Further, keys to the species of the genera Epinotia Hübner and Eucosma Hübner represented by more than one species have also been furnished. Eucosma pseudostrigulata is being reported as new to science. Species such as Rhopobota grypodes Meyrick, Epinotia corynetes Diakonoff, Acanthoclita iridorphna Meyrick and Eucosma prominens Meyrick are being reported for the first time from India, whereas, Acroclita corinthia Meyrick, Gibberifera glaciata Meyrick, Epinotia canthonias Meyrick, Helictophanes dryocoma Meyrick, Ancylis lutescens Meyrick, Eucosma stereoma Meyrick and E. melanoneura Meyrick have been collected for the first -

Legume-feeding Lepidoptera of the Florida Keys: potential competitors of an endangered lycaenid butterfly Sarah R. Steele Cabrera1,2,*, James E. Hayden3, Jaret C. Daniels1,2, Jake M. Farnum4, Charles V. Covell Jr.1, and Matthew J. Standridge1 Abstract Two Fabaceae in the Florida Keys, Pithecellobium keyense Coker and Guilandina bonduc Griseb., have been of interest because they are the larval host plants for the endangered Miami blue butterfly (Cyclargus thomasi bethunebakeri [Comstock & Huntington]; Lepidoptera: Lycaenidae). As a part of ongoing research and conservation for this butterfly, wild host plant material has been periodically collected in order to supplement a captive colony ofC. t. bethunebakeri located in Gainesville, Florida, USA. In examining this plant material, 26 lepidopterans were detected, includ- ing several host records, a new continental record, and 2 likely undescribed species, 1 Aristotelia (Gelechiidae) and 1 Crocidosema (Tortricidae). Our results expand the geographic, life-history, and taxonomic understanding of lepidopteran herbivores that use P. keyense and G. bonduc in South Florida. Ambas plantas son de la familia Fabaceae: Pithecellobium keyense Coker y Guilandina bonduc Griseb. Como parte de una investigación de la conservación de esta mariposa, periódicamente se recolectaron muestras de estas especies de plantas para suplementar una población cautiva deC. t. bethunebakeri en Gainesville, Florida, EE. UU. Tras examinar el material vegetal colectado, encontramos veintiséis especies de Lepidópteros. -

The application of molecular analyses for resolving taxonomic problems in the family Torticidae (Lepidoptera) is still uncommon. The majority of papers concern the assessment of population variability of economically important species; reports on the systematic positions of Neotropical Tortricidae taxa are rare. The Neotropical genus Orthocomotis was classifiedinitiallyasamemberofthetribeEuliini.Then, basedongenitalmorphology,itwas moved to the tribe Polyorthini. A comparison of homologous 606 bp fragments of the COI mitochondrial gene revealed that Orthocomotis should be transfered back into the tribe Euliini. Based on an analysis of phylogenetic relationshipsthestudiedgeneraof Euliini form a monophyletic cluster, clearly separated from tribe Polyorthini in which they were temporarilyincluded.Moreover,inthecurrentpaperwedescribetwonew speciesofthetribe Euliini: Galomecalpa lesta RAZOWSKI &PELZ, sp.
