Siena was rewarded for its success with a trip to the Women's Basketball Invitational and became the first school in MAAC history to win three games in a national postseason tournament and advance to the championship game. The Saints defeated Big East foe Xavier in the quar- terfinals in Cincinnati by 20 points, marking the pro- gram's largest margin of victory ever over a current member of one of the six major conferences (ACC, Big 12, Big East, Big Ten, Pac-12, SEC). - Siena return to action on as they close out the MAAC schedule this week at both Fairfield and Marist. The Saints currently sit at 8-11 overall in the MAAC, sitting in seventh place in the MAAC standings. - The Saints are set to be either the 6th or 7th seed in the upcoming MAAC Championship. With a win, the Saints will wrap up the 6 seed, while a loss will make their situation a little more complicated, having a potential coin flip determine their seed along with the depending on results around the league prior to their game Saturday night. - If the Saints fall to Marist, they would need a Saint Peter’s victory over Iona to pull the teams into a tie for 6th. Based on the two teams records against the teams ahead of them, a coin flip would determine the outcome. If Iona were to beat Saint Peter’s, Siena would be locked into the 7th seed. - In the current scenario, the Saints would play at 11:30 AM on Tuesday if they were the 7 seed, and would play at 1:30 PM on Tuesday if they end up as the 6 seed. - Siena has fallen in the last five matchups against the Red Foxes, with their last win coming back on Jam. 18, 2018 at the . - The Saints last matchup against the Red Foxes came at the Times Union Center earlier this season. Despite the loss and halftime lead, the Saints set marks for their longest run of the season (23-0 run) as well as their largest deficit overcome (15 points) in the game before the Red Foxes pulled back away in the second half. - Senior Sabrina Piper is currently approaching 1,000 career points, standing at 18 total points until the landmark. The Paris, France native has the chance to be Siena’s 29th player on the list. Piper has collected over 40 games of double-digit scoring in her career. - With her appearance against Fairfield on Jan. 2, Piper also eclipsed the 100 games mark for her career. If she appears in every game the rest of the season for Siena, she will land fifth all-time on the games played list. - Senior Sabrina Piper has only missed one game in her four-year career at Siena, earning a DNP (Coaches’ discretion) at UAlbany her freshman season. - Sophomore Lala Watts has now entered the Top 10 list for blocked shots in a single season. She is currently ranks second all- time with 60 blocks as she passed Serena Moore’s 2009-10 total of 51. Leading the top of the list is Laura Lord’s 85-86 total of 74 blocks. - In addition, Watts ranks first in the MAAC in blocked shots, currently averaging 2.2 blocks per game. She is the only play in the MAAC averaging over two blocks per game, as Saint Peter’s Zoe Pero ranks second with a 1.6 blocks per game average. Watts' 60 blocked shots rank 26th in the NCAA, while her 2.2 blocks per game also ranks 28th in the country. - The Saints are now 14-6 in their last 20 senior day contests. They had lost three of their last four before Saturday’s victory, with head coach Ali Jaques holding a 5-3 record in Senior Day games in her career at Siena. - The Saints played in their second ever “Leap Year” game in program history, now sitting at 2-0 in those games after Saturday’s win over Iona. The only other game on a Feb. 29 came on Feb. 29, 2008 in an 84-81 win at Rider. - Watts is also coming off a record-breaking performance against Monmouth back on Jan. 23, as she set a new Siena single-game record with eight total blocks back on Jan. 23. She broke the previous record of seven blocks, which was done four times (Katy Sturgis, Kathy Kaczkowski – 1990, Maggie Ward – 1990, Maddie Sims – 2019) - Additionally, 12 total blocks as a team against Monmouth on Jan. 23, the Saints also had the most blocks in a game since Jan. 20, 1990 in a 69-59 win against Boston University at home in the ARC. - Also only giving up 39 points to the Hawks on Jan. 23, the Saints held a team to under 40 points for the first time since Feb. 25, 2018 when the Green and Gold defeated Saint Peter's in the ARC 70-36. The Saints held the Peacocks to just 23.2 percent shooting in that game, while the held the Hawks to just 23.9 percent from the field. - Head Coach Ali Jaques needs just seven more wins to top former head coach Joe Hogan to become the second most winningest coach in program history. - Prior to their loss to the , the Saints were coming off their first-ever victory as a program over the by a final score of 68-60. The Green and Gold defeated the Bobcats on the road in Hamden, and would be the first win in program history over the program in 15 tries. - Dating back to last season, the Saints are 0-4 in their last four games at the Times Union Center. The list also includes Colgate (82), Penn (86), and Marist (65). - The Saints 29-point victory over the at home was the Green and Gold’s largest margin of victory in a game since they defeated Saint Peter’s 70-36 back on Feb. 25, 2018 on Senior Day. Both games were played in the . - Head Coach Ali Jaques won her 100th game as a head coach last season on Feb. 16, 2019 in a 67-61 win over Niagara. All of her wins as a head coach have come at Siena. - The Saints saw a near triple-double from senior Sabrina Piper, who snagged a season-high 12 rebounds along with nine points and nine assists at Niagara earlier this season - Freshman Julia Hauer received the Saints first weekly honor when she was named MAAC Rookie of the Week on Jan. 13. The Binghamton, NY native averaged 12.0 points, 5.3 rebounds, and 2.7 assists per game. She topped out with a new career-high 17 points, adding five rebounds as well at Saint Peter's last Monday. - As a team, the Saints snagged 21 offensive rebounds at Niagara. That total would be the most rebounds in a game by the team since they nabbed 26 in a 59-58 OT loss at Army back on Nov. 27, 2011. In total that game, the Saints scooped 63 total rebounds. - Siena went 0-4 to start conference play for the first time since ever, and it is the most since 2014-15 when they began the MAAC slate 0-3. That season, the Saints would also lose to Fairfield then Quinnipiac, and then lose the third game to Marist. Siena would make their run with the “Magnificent 7” later in the season en route to the WBI title game where they would fall to Louisiana-Lafayette. That team would finish the season 22-13 overall with an 11-9 mark in the MAAC. - The Saints had never begun a MAAC Schedule 0-4 in their history as a program. The Saints just broke their longest MAAC losing streak since 2016 (nine losses), losing eight in a row up until their victory over Canisius. - With Piper’s 12 rebounds and Amari Anthony’s 10 rebounds, their Jan. 9 game at Niagara was the first game this season Siena had two players in double-figure rebounds. Anthony’s 10 rebounds were the second time she eclipsed double-digits boards in her career. - After back-to-back years of being picked to finish third on the MAAC, the Saints fell this season as they were picked to finish 10th of 11 teams in the MAAC Preseason Coaches Poll. They would chorale 33 points in the poll. - Junior Marilena Gerostergiou snagged 15 rebounds against UAlbany, which was the most rebounds in a single game by a Siena Saint since Emmanuella Edoka snagged 17 against Sacred Heart on Dec. 17 2017. - Gerostergiou’s total rebounds against UAlbany are the second most in a single game this season of all MAAC programs. - The Saints sold out The Crosstown Showdown, reaching a capacity crowd of 2,178 fans in the Alumni Recreation Center. It was the first sell out in the new seating configuration in the ARC, and the seventh largest crowd in the building’s history. - Prior to Siena’s game at Colgate, Rayshel Brown became immediately eligible to suit up for the Saints after being granted a leg- islative relief waiver by the NCAA. The Staten Island, NY native averaged 5.6 points and 2.3 rebounds during her first two seasons at La Salle. - Freshman Julia Hauer became the second freshman in as many years to record a double-double for the season, joining Amari Anthony’s 12-10 performance from last season at Howard.
